I remember when this came out in 1982. I wasn't born yet, but I do remember this. Gotye wrote the song and Tronicbox was producing the song for him and Kimbra. And in 2011 Gotye recorded a version of the song with different production but the same vocals because people seemed to love the vocals and was titled "Somebody That I Used to Know 2011".
I can relate to this song. There's a girl I knew since I was 11 years old, her name is Savanna, we were good friends and neighbors and we used to play together all the time. 9 years passed since I last saw her. Finally, a few days after hurricane Ian hit, I found her. We talked, we hugged, and exchanged numbers. A few months later, she cut me off, and told her parents I was stalking her. This hurts bad because all I was trying to do was spark up our old friendship. Now she's like somebody that I used to know.
One of the few instances I genuinely like a remix over the original. This really sounds amazing and if it was released in the 80s, this would've been one of the most defining songs of the era.
It was pretty much the best pop era, when music was fresh and new; even the remixes or then-modern covers. Pop now is striptease, garbage with the same few chord progressions and tempos; pop _then_ relied on talented groups writing things people hadn't heard before, and even the ripoffs came out with some classics.
