@AllAmericanFE - Yeah the Allison World series transmissions came out in mid 1992, but this one is not the World series with that transmission selector. I believe this one is the Allison AT or MT series transmission.
@busrailfan Initially, the World series transmissions (B300R, B400R, MD3060, HD4060) were intended as replacements for the MT644/647 and the entire HT740/750 series of automatics. The MT644/654CR was introduced in 1976 as a heavier-duty version (they use the HT series' torque converters) of the MT640 (later the MT643) initially introduced as such in 1972 (replacing the prior MT40 series), while the HT740/750 series replaced the HT70 in 1971.
@AllAmericanFE The B300R could be had as early as 1994 (was in test market from 1991-93), and could be had as an alternative to the AT545 and MT643. The other WTEC transmissions available in 1994 for buses like this were the MD3060 (for engines up to 285 hp) and the MD3066 (up to 360 hp) and they replaced the mid-range/heavy-duty crossover MT647/648 (descendants of MT644) and MT654CR transmissions.
Nice Ian! Youve got that driving thing down! My mom hit 4 parked cars this year with her truck backing up and trying to park. Imagine her trying to park that thing O_O
Reminds me of what my old bus sounded like, my driver well all the drivers layed on those buses like that, was fortunate enough to have a bus that was only a few years old, 2000 bluebird tc-2000.
Well since I am going to have the bus titled as an RV I did not need a CDL or age requirement. If you are going to drive for a school district generally the age is 18 or 21 and you must have a CDL
We still have tons of '87 Wayne Lifeguards in my area, and I love those. There was a time when we had a bunch of '95 Lifeguards (Wayne Wheeled Vehicles) that were in near perfect condition, but I'm pretty sure that those were sold to another bus company.
You have excellent driving skills Ian! Great video.

No this was at Cardinal Bus Sales in Lima (BlueBird Dealer). I do not need a CDL if it is registered as an RV. Plus I am taking out most of the seats

That sound is the turbo. You can hear it more prominent on some buses than on others.

643 transmission always shifts down when you slow down
I like the 545 also, back in elementary school buses I rode, you can always hear that famous whine.
thats really cool ian. thanks. i've always wanted to drive a school bus at least once.
Navistar International chassis!
I drove a Wayne Lifestar....not sure about the engine in this video...I had a Cummins. Hes a hot rod in my opinion
Ah, got to love the sound of the 5.9 liter Cummins turbo diesel.

I think more it's a cummins ISB 5.9. But sounds like
Nope that is a DT466 International engine.
That woman sure knows how to drive a bus
It drove fine except the wheel had a flat spot on it which was not plesant at 55mph (steering wheel started to shake)

@AllAmericanFE - Ah I just heard the fella mention this was the Allison MT-643.
I use to ride these 1992 wayne buses everyday from after-school in high school from 2008-2010.
Wow! That looks like fun!
Daniel says he want to drive it now LOL!!!
Nice man! How's the test drive? Is it working properly?

i drive the buses in norwalk ct and our Internationals spares range from 02- 06 and regular run 02-08
is the engine a development of the international 444idi v8 diesel sometimes used in buses and pickups etc?
Ian, I hope you put up a video of your Genesis Amtran at some point.
when I go pick it up which should be the first week of December.
You should take videos of your Wayne. Those are very rare (the 88 models)
If I ever test drive another one yea
what kind of camera did u use?
This transmission is a MT643. This bus is too old for an electronic transmission like the world series I think.
Is that like the 444idi engine but a development of it?
dude....that is freakin awesome. where you live, how old do you have to be in order to drive a school bus?
71 Passanger I believe.
So did you end up buying this bus?
1992.
It was
How does the front look?
😁
Well the deal fell through. My dad would not let me buy it so I bought a new instrument instead.
1992, Jacknife, I am not buying this one I am buying a 1994 AmTran Genesis FE
hey doug can i drive ur bus
Is this bus 95-89?
Not buying this one I am buying a 1994 AmTran Genesis FE. This bus has an MT643 not an AT545
i figured you'd be driving one with a cummins diesel
I did not buy the Amtran I bought a new instrument instead.
nice ride for you :)
is this in Virginia cause i saw a va state police car!!!
i've watched this video a few times and i still have no clue as to if this is a male or a female driving this bus
Sounded like a cummins
sorry im mess up ur name wayne
@matthmatthmatth I'm pretty sure thats a guy, not a woman.
