very informative video. this man is extremely knowledgeable. found him by accident. never logged in, commented, or liked a video before on youtube. this is my first and for good reason. BUMP!
man let me tell you this thank you thank you thank you that's all I can say I didn't have Cal Mag in there and that was my problem And what a difference you rock man
Awesome class session and great info, in addition to the 5 years of research (out of my own free will) this is great additional info along with other videos. No one better to learn from than someone whose already tried it !
Digital PPM meters are very cheap(25$). 0-300 ppm is good for babies, above that its hard for the youngling to feed due to heavy osmotic pressure. 300-600 good for veg weeks, 600-1200 ppm good for blooming, should be easy to eat for well grown plants. after 1200 only vines, trees and berries can handle higher PPM numbers. Very important to flush well if you hit 1200-1500 ppm otherwise you will ruin the expression of flavinoids by masking.
DUDE you really helped me! This is such key info. And if you happen to have your water softened, where calcium and magnesium are stripped from the water, and then decide to grow in coco, you got a double whammy of no Cal mag. One solution could be to grind up eggshells to a fine dust and then mix in as atop dry amendment? I've not tried this though. sensi calmag does work well for me, but would prefer an organic alternative.
Loved the vid! Lots of info!. Quick question... 2 week old seedlings loooking a lil small . 1st time growing idk if its normal... using ONLY.COCO/PERLITE and phbalance water.... when shuld i statt adding calmag?!?! Thank you!
Cheers APE, great video as always. I like your format, short and to the point. Why did you stop uploading videos? Last one is about 10 mths ago. Hope you are all well. Best.
I’m still learning how to grow. Last time I used cal mag, I ended up with nitrogen toxicity. Upon further investigation, I fount the calmag I was using had high nitro content
HI, Great video and extremely informative. I'm a resident of Canada and am attempting my first legal grow of cannabis. I identified a cal/mag deficiency and picked up a supplement product. I am wondering if you could advise me as to how long after providing a dose of cal/mag supplement before I see improvement in my plants? Thanks
I am growing medical canabus using DWC and RO water . I am having some difficulties with my plants. It appears to be calcium deficiency . I am using FoxFarm nutrients but have reduced the amount to half the recommended dose. How much cal/mag should I use per gallon of RO water . Thank you for the informative video .
The solution to not having calcium problems is to never let coco dry out too much and have plenty of drain with every feed. Often the problem is that the calcium thats locked up is depleted when drying out, so when watered again the CEC will act like a sponge and suck up all the calcium. I never used calmag in coco and I have no problems, but ofc my nutrients contain calcium and magnesium already.
Great video. If I use the basic Masterblend mix (MB, CN, & ES), what would you suggest for the addition of Cal Mag, or not add it, and other additives. I'm growing in a heated greenhouse this winter in water culture and I'm looking for advice on optimizing the grow. Thanks.
Where is the link to buy humic shale? Is it humic shell? You mean humic acids? I want to clarify as I’m interested to what you mean when you mentioned humic shale.
Can you recommend a High quality soil ? IVe made my own for years. I use Faffards pink bag because its a soil without fertilizers . I add a quart of Perlite to a 10 gallon pale , I add 2 quarts of Peat Moss , 1 tbsp of Blood Meal, 1 tbsp of bone meal , stir it very well and my plants have thrived . I feel ya on Fox farms soil , Ive tried using there ocean forest and just had numerous deficiency issues through the grows, I just seemed to chase my tail through every grow i did with FF.
Hey brother where do I find the humic shell (don’t know if I spelt it right) I grow in coco and I always add calmag you got me interested in knowing more about this shell stuff ✌️
It's the industry standard but a bit dated now. Vermifire and Roots 707 are my current favs. If you are seeing a calcium deficiency make sure you pH is in the correct range first before adding Calmag or amendments.
Great video mate, learnt a lot.Iam growing micro greens in co co mat. Do I need anything else than cal mag as nutrients in my water. Up till now ive only been using PH 5.5 plain water... L Cheers
Im growing in coco but havent a calmag additive available here. Are there cheap Alternatives ? Like grinding eggshells and putting it in the coco can I use Epsom salts for the magnesium?
I used MedTech Cal Mag and find i cant get the Ph to come down to 5.8 when i use it without using heaps of ph down. Will this hurt plants.! Those i dont use it in are doing fine and only need a few drops of ph down to get to 5.8.
Sorry for necro but what about calmag in hard water ? For example, General Hydroponics does Tripart where Micro has version for soft and hard water. If my base tap water has a lot of calcium, lets say 92mg/L , im adviced by (gh) to use hard water version so there is less nutrients in it because my water has plenty of it. But i still see people using calmag in hard water. From what i read, calcium in tap water has bigger molecules which cannot be absorbed by root pores. Adding another calmag on top of it will create snowball effect and those big molecules will stick to small and nutrient lock other nutrients in solution. Soft version of Micro (for RO water etc) has enough calcium and adding calmag is not recommended. Its very confusing.
How do I email you? I'm trying to get ypur help. I'm an aeroponic grower I manage 245 towers of lettuce. I have am issue in the greenhouse and would like you opinion
Check your nutrient brands website for feed scheduling and dosage... that’ll give you a base to go by. Typically 1200ppm (everything together) is used in flower, and cutting that ratio for smaller or less mature plants.
If you're using tap water, then most likely you don't need it at all... But if you're using RO or distilled water, then you should use 200 to 250 ppms of CalMag, added before your nutrients.
What do you suggest if the ph drifts down in dwc with ro water? Regardless of ppm, even to the extreme low point of 50-100 ppms and no matter what it drifts down. Using GH floranova.
New grower here using straight coco when do you suggest I start watering with cal mag added seedlings just popped and are now in coco right now using ph water
Coco substrate absorbs calcium making less available to the plant. Therefore if using a synthetic nutrient line, it is recommended to add a Calcium supplement. I like CaliMagic, works well. I hope you understand ppm. The feedings of nutes in the beginning is not heavy, first 2 weeks 250ppm should be target.
Yea I understand ppm I’m also using all canna products part A B as base rizatone and got their bloom enhancer for later ph up and down just in case also I’m using reverse osmosis’s water
hey man autoflowers, when should i start applying calmag, using 30% coco coir 70%bio bizz soil, im 9days in havent fed any nutrients yet, i will be using ghe veg n flower, im unsure about black strap mollasses is that any good iyo.
Good info I agree ph is very important.whats your opinion in soul what is a good ranch of ph,6.5 to 6.8 is that good some people say even lower.soul not highdriow I know that should be around 5.5 what do you think.thanks
As a base guide 5,5 deep water culture,5.6 to 5.8 coco,6.2 to 6.5.in soil.Done all of them and this range seems to work well. The ph in DWC can change quickly so check it at least twice a day.
Storm 8 Hey sexy, just buy a litre of calmag and mix 1ml per litre of water first, then add 2-4 mls each of A and B Per litre of water. When plants are vegging you can use half strength mixture of A and B but when flowering use 4mls of each per litre of water and of course the calmag!
Sorry, I'm in Australia, so litre is spelled differently. Just remember that underfeeding is better than over-feeding. So grow some shit, come to Aus, n marry me. It's a simple solution.😀
@9:00 This information regarding Coco is incorrect. Coco has a HIGH Cation Exchange Capacity meaning Coco has many anion sites that want to be bonded to positively charged ions aka cations. Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) are both cations with double positive charges thus Coco requiring it's own supply of Calcium and Magnesium to fill these sites before the plant will have access to these ions for it's own use. As these anion sites are satisfied with Calcium and Magnesium they release their weaker bonds to Sodium (Na) and Phosphorous (P) and hold on tight to their new bonds with the Calcium and Magnesium.
Hi I buffer my coco with Calcium Nitrate for 48 hours and rinse thoroughly. Cl Mag is very costly here in India and not easy to find. My question is after buffering coco, I plan to use it solely as a grow media using water soluble Calcium Nitrate and water soluble Micro Nutrients to feed my plants in coco coir. Will these nutrients work ? Thanks
lol, thank you for that fox farm comment. worst crap i see guys use. i dont get why, so many issues, their salts are bunk too. poor cheep quality sources. may as well use miricle grow lol. easy enough to just say cal mag needs depend on medium and its cec and what plants we grow for its needs in that medium, they all use it. i actualy stopped using the supplement cause my bases has plenty in it and caused me issues
If you're not growing hydroponically you should be right now if you're not growing hydroponically you should be right now will buy grow hydroponically and I grow no-till and no-till has 10% better flavor than growing in hydroponic you ask anybody about Hydroponics and I'll tell you you get no flavor
I'm one of those that appreciate it when you go in depth.

Did you say humic shell? I’m only seeing google results for humic acids. Please advise.
The solution to not having calcium problems is to never let coco dry out too much and have plenty of drain with every feed.
