The Plug-in Pet was only featured in the anime adaptation (Nt Warrior) that featured their own interpretation of the events of bn 1-3, The actual first two battle network games, (as well as the start of the manga) feature the original PET shown here:

Okay does it bug anyone else when people say it as p-e-t? The legacy collection literally has megaman calling it a PET, not a p-e-t. I've never understood why people spell it out

Probably because it's capitalized and saying "pet" can be confusing if we're talking about "PETs" or actual pets
