This video sent me down a bit of a botanical rabbit hole, as I was wondering what elk sedge looks like and found out that several websites stated it was native to North America, not Europe. As it turns out, "elk sedge" refers to either Carex geyeri or Carex garberi in America, but in Europe it refers to Cladium mariscus, which is native to Europe :) Amazing video, making sense of one of the more confusing runes!
Proto-Germanic /z/ became Old Norse /ʀ/ through a sound change, not repurposing, and /ʀ/ continued to be a case ending. Manuscripts call ᛉ "ilcs", "iolx", "ilx", "elux", "eolhx". So this is probably what the rune's name was. The rune poem does form a segment like "ᛉ secg", but it does the same thing elsewhere with "ᚷ gumena".

We are getting close to the end of RuneJune are we?
There are 33 runes in the series covered in 30 videos, so we have another month of it coming up! Hope that's not a disappointment haha
@@GuthlacYT I see that good i'll be looking forward to that
RuneJuly doesn't have the same ring as RuneJune but still, the show must go on!
Man, razor grass is the WORST, I suppose people have always known it but even hearing it mentioned makes me itch.
