More balls than brains running the two different tire brands. Must have been a real challenge. Our local PCA chapter wouldn't have let you run like that they're super anal about that sort of thing. Glad you survived and live to race another day.
Agree to disagree on this one. Definitely not ideal, but as long as they match per axle there are no issues. Obviously handling wasn’t ideal, but I was able to pull a sub 2 minute lap which was the goal for the weekend.
Also, discussed with my instructor as to which axle to put the lesser tires on, and he agreed with the rear. Zach’s instructor was less comfortable though, and they ended up finishing the weekend in a different car.
Yeah personally oversteer would make me happier too although understeer is purposely introduced into most production cars in the interest of safety. As a learning experience I’d say you got an invaluable lesson in handling.
Ha, for sure. I’m used to oversteer based off all of my rear drive past. I get the “understeer is safer” motto, but I would much rather have to wrangle in the rear than have the front end excessively push. Not ideal for someone who has zero spirited driving experience though.
Boost Brothers Garage people ask me about my 951 , why do you have hoosiers on the rear and toyos on the front? I tell them it's because I got them for free !!😄😄😄
The bike mirrors killed me, love it. That crest at the blind right into thunder valley is always unnerving since the car goes weightless for a second. Well done keeping it on track with walmart tires!
Haha the beginning had me laughing so hard! You guys do whatever it takes to make it around the track and that’s awesome! Walmart tires and bicycle mirror, that’s the 944 way😂
Congratulations guys on getting to the track and making all those late nights working on the car worth it.Do you guys need a set of stock 944 mirrors? Did you guys roll the rear fenders? But really great job guys,
Thanks Peter! It was a TON of work, but worth it. We have the stock mirrors, but had a bad paint reaction and didn’t get the installed in time, then accidentally left them at the shop before we hit the road! Did not get an opportunity to roll the rear fenders, the car must squat a ton because it didn’t seem like the rubbing was going to be an issue. Things to fix before next time!
Great video. Is that a phone running a lap timer on your windshield? Have you ever tried using it for video? I'm trying to find a stable windshield mount for laptimer and video but I think most would shake too much. I use a dashcam right now that is directly mounted to windshield, and gives good stable video, but it's hard to sync up the video with the laptimer.
Thanks! It is, I was running Track Addict and did take video, but the camera shake was terrible. I’ve read really good things about the RAM mounts and planned to get one, but couldn’t get it in time for this event. Having the track layout, timer, g meter etc overlaid on the video was super cool, but it looked like the phone was mounted to a paint shaker haha
Holy shit. U guys got some nuts to go tracking with that rim...oh i meant tire. But glad u had fun.
A lesson in car control lol

Haha, R888 and NT01 were our original choices, but ended up going RE71R’s after getting a smoking deal
Well driven lap.
Thanks Craig!

Yeah, that and the uphill crest going under the bridge after madness are a blast!
Good stuff!
Even KL got some screen time!
Boost Brothers Garage I saw that. She’s only 3 seconds off my pace in the GTI.
Impressive, she was getting after it!
One of my personal favorite tracks! Nothing like track day, quick fixes! Hoping to get up there with the 981 this summer.
Whatever it takes! Definitely let us know, we’ll make sure to be there.
Amazing video as always
Thank you!!!

Haha, we put WAY too much time and energy into getting there, no way we were gonna let a couple issues keep us off track!
Felicidades
Gracias!
track days ld say are major fun :)
Couldn’t agree more!

Maaan. Walmart rears + RE71R fronts must be oversteer city.
Hahaha, it was NOT ideal lol
