  • Pulling the SPICE out of two boxes and talk about my current thoughts on Grand Archive's first year and where I hope the game can go from here to help bring in even more players. While the first few sets didn't go great for stores and players alike, there's a lot of positive news more recently that make it worth looking into again.

I cover some of these items in more details throughout the video, but the best TL;DR I could manage:
Grand Archive started off as "yet another Kickstarter TCG" that at first glanced looked like a cheap imitation of multiple games down to the very company name "Weebs of the Shore" playing off the MTG company name "Wizards of the Coast". Looking beyond the amazing artwork Weebs of the Shore hit multiple speedbumps that made for an interesting year 1 where I could not recommend the games to players as stores lost a LOT of money on the product. However, since then looking at the Worlds celebration and their recent amazing success with the Recollection entry points for new players Weebs of the Shore has seemed to turn a corner and put the game itself into a much better point. If Mercurial Heart turns out to be a good set I could see this being the first turning point where Grand Archive starts to see notable growth instead of the arguably flatlined point it finds itself today.

I'd like to believe I highlight a fair amount of good points as well, because more of a balance is what I was hoping for, but I do believe its important for helping the game grow in a better direction overall.

    100% agree with 9:24
I just opened my first boxes of Grand Archive on Monday and since I am more of a collector than a player because of the lack of LGSs in Germany, it wasn't a great experience to open a box and just pulling 3 regular foils without texture or gold stamping.
There are so many TCGs to choose from at the moment who put a lot of effort into the high rarities and yes I know that Grand Archive has the CSR cards but that doesnt help if i am not lucky 😂

Yeah I just got your video last night after recording my opening and I think this is certainly a very real challenge for the game. Not sure of a great solution that doesn't just upset their current player base, but I do hope they find something else they can add.

I don't think they need to do a foil per pack, I'm fine with foils being more rare, but 2-3 per box is pretty wack. I'd like to see at least 5 or 6 per box

Yeah its the generally idea that *something* about the boxes can certainly change, just not 100% sure on what makes the most sense

The deck boxes price point is $50. Why do you say 65$ , If you payed more that's on you. Second, the spirits are not power crept, they probably weaker than previous one and not better than the original you just don't know the game bro.

I disagree with almost everything you have said, but it is interesting to see what people that doesnt follow the game hear about it.

the whole immersion compliant is pretty weak for a card gamer ngl. You basically saying you prefer developers to spoon feed you the best way to play. Archetypes all well represented in their style of play and in synergies. been able to mix and match cards and stuff is what makes games like MTG good. The same for GA, it makes games deckbuilding free creative and fun. Otherwise you just like getting spoonfed like a kid.

I am not strictly talking about archetypes here. For a game that when you land on their front page is all about "LOOK AT OUR COOL CHARACTERS! LEARN ABOUT EACH OF THESE MASSIVELY IMPORTANT CHARACTERS!" and then you end up building strategies that do not have a single card that features them in a different element, or tie back into a great theme of the deck, feels like a flavor fail. I'm sure this is an issue that will be resolved as the card pool gets deeper, but I hope they go back to zander getting featured in water artwork to use my example from the video.
