The Viola Bass sounded better than I expected, especially with the neck soloed. However, with both pickups together and bridge/middle soloed, I preferred the Rumblekat. Thank you for the comparison!
I liked the Viola tone a lot, but agree with the discomfort of that style guitar in the lap. I wonder what you thought of the Epiphone/Hofner volume/tone control comparison?
I will be (hopefully) shooting a Rumblekat vs Hofner Club video in a few weeks. I very much prefer V-V-T. On my Hofner, I feel like I only have two real useable sounds (neck, bass on and off), so I found it limiting that I cannot really get something I between. Having said that, my Hofner does something that nothing else does! Thanks for watching!
Very interesting comparison! I wasn't aware that the pickups are also different: they are bigger on the Viola. I preferred the Rumblekat all the way, so I'm happy that I got this one! Now I'm curious about how it compares to a Höfner, maybe even one with Cavern pickup spacing? The Violin Bass CT - Cavern might be the closest competitor since it's not completely hollow as well.
Thanks for watching! I was surprised by the result. I think a lot of factors play into the sonic differences. In the future, I'll be putting the Rumblekat up against my Hofner Club. It doesn't have the Cavern p/u placement, but it'll be interesting to hear how the neck pickups differ!
Mm sorry, but a tone comparison, even with headphones on, is virtually impossible with that backing track running, this clearly obscures the comparing of tones through RUclips …
Thanks for the feedback. I mentioned the rationale in a much earlier video. Yes, RUclips compression does diminish some of the differences. But my preference for making comparisons in a musical context is to see how the tones fit and interact with other things/sounds. If the differences are perceived to be really subtle or negligible this way, one could make the argument that it doesn’t make a real world difference. I am personally looking for sounds that work and cut in a musical context. For instance, I have programmed line6 patches, especially synth ones, that sounded outstanding by themselves. Put it up with other instruments on stage and it gets eaten up and disappears! So frustrating. But that’s my experience with these types of things. For comparisons where I really find it more subtle, I often also include a solo’d track. But you make a fair point. Thanks for watching!

@@jonathanwong458music you are welcome have you read music when playing bass
I’m classically trained in piano and violin. Electric bass and drums are my ‘fun’ non-classical instruments!

Hi Jonathan,I like both!!!!👍🇨🇱
Right on! Thanks so much for watching!
I saw Vampire Weekend on Saturday and Scott Baio was using a Vox Violin as his #1. I literally never knew it existed beforehand. You ever play one?
I haven’t! Must be a vintage model?
Thanks for watching and sharing!
