Had a similar situation on I-70 several years ago. But this was just north of downtown St. Louis. A blizzard had come through and there was an icy patch at the bottom of a small hill. The trucks couldn't get traction to get up it and backed up traffic while the state road crews worked on the patch. Quite a mess. I'm sure up in the mountains it's very common. Stay safe on the roads out there and thank you for all the video!
The dead pine trees aren't burnt. They are dead from pine beetles. They've actually been a massive problem recently because it doesn't get as cold as often anymore(we're talking like a solid week below like 20f ) they don't die as much as they should. Thus they've been running rampant the last 20-30 years
Actually they figured out the population of birds that eat the beetles are in decline so they got out of control. They are trying to repopulate the birds
Forest fires, or the lack thereof. Pine forests are supposed to burn every 25 to 30 years. When they burn, the big mature trees survive the fire. Only small trees and underbrush burn. The large trees are healthy enough to fight off pine beetle infestation. There is space between all the mature trees. But, fires have been put out for a hundred years. Trees are crowded and unhealthy. They can't fight off pine beetles anymore. So much fuel has built up in the forest, the fires are now catastrophic and none of the trees survive.
Haha...there's another channel I watch on YT called "Riding Shotgun" by a trucker. He films as he's driving and talks. That's it. I love it. So I really enjoyed this!
It must have been soo boring in that traffic jam. I hope you had a deck of cards. I have never seen a truck give a push to a semi. That was neat to see. I should have known you would have a CB, Post. Cool! Seeing the mountain you were driving towards near the end was just Wow to me. Thanks for the video!
Hey, that was really awesome! That stretch of road between 19:00 and 20:00 is the road that "TFL Truck" uses for their "IKE gauntlet" video series, basically a torture test for Trucks towing heavy trailers
The test at how much you are loved? When your youtube family will sit through a winter traffic jam with you. ;) lol Thanks for sharing and be safe out there!!!

Great video! I miss living out there, but do not miss that traffic! Many of the dead pine trees in the Rockies are also due to the pine beetle. Once an area is infected it is very hard to contain.
For cb radio fix you need an in-line power filter Common Fixes. If you have a noise blocker or automatic noise limiter feature (NB/ANL) on your CB, make sure this feature is enabled. If possible, try to wire the CB power leads directly to the battery. This will reduce the likelihood of electrical noise from other systems entering your CB through the power leads

Hello from Colorado! As a native I can tell you, driving I70 during crash traffic is the worst lol but even more terrifying in the snow. I'm an Uber driver and I don't trust a single person on the roads out there so I stay home when it snows pretty often
About 1.7 miles...not fun having your car die in there. I speak from experience, although the CDOT push truck was there in about a minute and pushed me out quickly.
I've been through there multiple times driving to and from Indy to Utah, once from California. Amazing video BTW. Also when you get back to doing more clogged culverts will you or can you show us a leech? I've never really seen one before, which would be awesome to share with us if you feel ok doing that??.. If you have a video of any of those leeches let me know. I really appreciate what you do. I thought of you this past weekend bc we had a lot of rain and a lot of flooding everywhere. LoL I was like maybe I should make a video to show you how much flooding we had here. I live downtown Indy and really close to the White River and close to Lucas oil stadium, where the colt's play.
As I lay here watching you go thru tunnell @20:16 all I'm thinking about is what it would look like if water was running thru this giant culvert, slash tunnel!!! hahaha
I didn't think that pick up would be able to push the big truck. Looks like they've done it plenty of times. Good thing you stayed behind so they were able to help
Manitoba, Canada - our plows have similar lights - you tend to think the police have the road blocked at first, until you realize it's just a plow doing their thing.
Those automatic semi trucks are horrible in winter, I hate driving them. Sucks that my company is only running automatics now, I miss driving manual transmissions.
@@beorlingo Loose rhymes with moose. lose rhymes with booze. English has stupid rules. Also of all the youtubers out there Post is the one who values his use of the language otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Well that was a mess! It could have been terrible if any of those big rigs had actually colidded where they lost tracktion. It seems like when it first starts accumulating on the road people just continue flying full speed. Surface conditions have changed drastically. Simply attempting a lane change could cause total chaos! 9x outta 10 the first thing people do when their vehicle is out of control... They smash the brakes! You probably passed through the great state of Indiana (my birthplace and life for 37 yrs) at some point though :) You missed nothing in Iowa by the way! I live in a Dutch town but otherwise, rural state.
Iowa isn't entirely a rural state. I've lived here about 41 years and never lived outside a town or city lol not saying they haven't been SMALL but, ya know
@@mystic_tacos I'm in Pella. I moved here from Indianapolis so it all seems pretty rural to me. not complaining but ti's not a 24/7 world here in Iowa!!

you know how trains have a tank of sand to provide grip when going up hills? do semi trucks have something similar?
