- Planning on installing a suicide clutch and a jockey shifter on your bike? if so better start practicing these 5 practices to get the most out of your foot clutching/hand shifting experience.
Looking into a suicide clutch as a way to get back into riding after losing my left foot in a wreck.
Gotta say you're not what I was expecting to find in the search but hot damn I'm glad I did bro.
Hey Papa Jefe, Are you a BK (Below Knee) amputee? Do you use use a prosthetic? It is still possible to use a toe shifter. Instead lifting your toes from ankle... lift your leg from the hip (hip flexors) to shift up. To shift down, move your leg back, up, and over the shift peg to step down on the shift peg. Sort of a stomping motion.
A heel/toe shifter is even better. Especially with angle adjustable, offset pegs; and full or mini floorboards. Want to make shifting even easier? Add a Rekluse clutch pack.
I'm a L3/L4 incomplete walking & rolling paraplegic. With AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthotic braces), I function like a double BK amputee.

The heel-toe is an appealing option, but I like the doubling down of the jockey shifter.
Actually with my prosthesis there's this little notch on the back of the foot, and I can grab the shifter with that to pull up.
Of course I'm not really ambulatory enough to think about riding yet. But thanks for the feedback.
You can get a foot clutch that isn't a full on suicide clutch. Might be a little safer. Suicide clutch is a racing clutch.
No safety position. Foot clutch with a hand shift or a jockey shift would be best. Rear hand brake on the left and the front brake on the right.
I'm probably going with a full on suicide foot clutch with a foot shifter and hand brakes.
Full on suicide clutch set up is hand shift suicide spring back clutch and no front brake.

My solution is a hand-operated clutch on the jockey shift lever. Nearly as safe as stock.

If you get a rocking clutch pedal and a hand shift it's relatively safe.

You had a "Rocker" clutch on that bike, not a "suicide"....
Now, the reality is, you have to have 4 things to use the term ‘suicide clutch’ rightly:
1) no front brakes.
2) a foot clutch.
3) a hand shifter.
4) two wheels (no s-car or trike)
The main reason the term ‘suicide clutch’ came about was because the rider could not stop on an upward incline at a street light, a stop sign or for any other reasons unless he had a buddy riding along behind who would put his front tire against the rear wheel and hold the motorcycle from rolling back. Hand shifting a motorcycle is not that dangerous (or difficult) and it’s ‘cool’. But without the front brakes, that would surely be ‘tricky’ to say the least.
Note: there’s nothing ‘suicidal’ about a hand shifter on a motorcycle 😎. I am aware that there is or was an after market product (and on some very early stock motorcycles too) called just that a ‘suicide shifter’. That set up had the clutch lever on the shifter (stick) instead of on the (left side) handle bar, no foot clutch. A real ‘abortion’ indeed (and ugly), but that’s just me and I digress... You go ahead and call it a ‘suicide clutch’ or a ‘suicide shifter’ if you wish, no harm done.

Had a 47 Knuckle with a suicide clutch and a jockey shift (not a ratchet shifter) 12 over Springer ,1 in rake rode for over 8 yrs (sold it like a dumb a$$) still miss after 40yrs.
Ha ha!. Love it! As a WLC rider bit prone to looking down on hand clutch riders. But mine is not a suicide clutch. Has the damper fitted and stays where you put it. I have very small balls.

wla is a rocker clutch not a suicide like shown here. Its similar though
You can take the spring out of the rocker clutch and make it a suicide clutch, but i wouldnt advise it.

Most bikes should stall if you accidentally take your foot off the clutch, I’m not sure where the phrase suicide clutch came from unless you actually give your bike some gas for some reason you really shouldn’t shoot out into traffic. Instead of every beginner rider stalling there bike at the light they would just be dropping like flies haha. I want to put one on my chopper just to get to that next level of riding.
What make foot clutch did you use

I did all that 25-years-ago in my twenties. Still not sure why my wife has stayed with me this long. I did finally break her though, now when she goes with me we have to ride the dyna because it has shocks, good breaks, consistently starts...
@@sglide666 I did it 45 years ago on a 1949 flathead. Now I got new bikes! A 1991 softail! and a 1990 sporty rigid that I had put on a foot clutch/jockey shift. Fun for a year, then I converted it back to standard shift!

@@TheBabyDerp Real Sucide Clutch has no front brake, he had one, it's called suicide clutch because you'll never be able to put down both of your leg which means you couldn't stop on upward incline, If u remove your leg from the rear brake you'll be rolling back, you dead.. if you remove your leg from the clutch the engine dead. The front Brake alone make it not suicidal.
