Beautifully done. I really like it! :} Gets me in the mood to bring out my DVD set again to re-watch! I remember the first time I saw it. I was literally on pins and needles the entire time. Even cried when something happened to an important supporting character near the end D: Absolutely beautiful anime, and a good song choice for a well made video^^
I started watching Gankutstuou because of this AMV. I must say, as good as it is, I wish I wasn't so familiar with the story of The Count of Monte Cristo; it's a very good Anime, but I already know the story :/
I think Gankutsuou did a pretty interesting retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo. In by, focusing it from Albert's point of view rather than Edmunds/The Counts. It shows the consequences rather than the satisfaction of revenge.
+Isabel Dapena Munera hints toward Edmonds past start around the end of episode 16 when Franz starts investigating the Count's history. Later in episode 22 and 23 we actually see more of his past. Hope this helps answer the question. I almost derped and answered for Franz and Albert's past. Good thing I caught that ^^;
