Thanks so much for listening! Yes, the Nagra was a quality built recorder used extensively by film and television sound engineers in the 60s & 70s, these machines are superbly built and sound fantastic, they are also unfortunately no longer made hence the high price 😞
What qualities does the Nagra have that a Akai 202D - SS doesn't? Just curious as I have 2 of those. This is the make of machine the a guy on here called HAINBACH speaks highly of, and for truly 😊 good reason. Sounds great!!
Hiya, yeah I have not used the Akai 202D so can’t really attest to sound differences but there are a few specs that set them apart, the Akai is a 4 head, 2 speed stereo reel to reel compared to my Nagra IV-L which is 3 heads, 3 speed and mono (really wish I had the stereo IV-S!!). One of the main differences though is that the Akai was predominantly intended for home use while the Nagra was a professional field recorder used for recording the audio for radio, cinema and television back in the day (hence it being built like a tank, not to mention it having some absolutely fantastic mic preamps in). End of the day they are both great reel to reels, the Akai’s mic ins might not sound as nice but the line ins should work a treat, the Akai might also lend a bit more colour to the overall sound on playback (which isn’t always a bad thing!) But I probably wouldn’t take it out in the rain to record a babbling brook! Thanks for listening! 😀
I have a pair of 1970's Uher report mk2. I love the Akai for extra heads and stereo capabilities, but the Uhers have 4 speed and the excellent build quality. I was looking at getting some Akai machines but space is an issue in my studio. Basically all tape machines will impart their own unique break up on high recording levels and distinct lo-fi smeared sound when playing back at half speed. The main thing is to learn maintenance basics for your machine, they're all a labour of love.
This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you so much! 😊
This is really lovely, thanks for sharing it.
My pleasure 😊 thanks for listening!
Nice....and the coolest tape recorder ever !
I know, right! I love my Nagra! Thanks for listening 🙂
Awesome.
Thank you! Cheers! 😁
