- With great sadness, we say goodbye to a piece of Canadian history.
Air Canada Express (Jazz Aviation) has been flying the classic Dash for many many years, but sadly they have retired the rtype from their fleet.
I was lucky enough to have been able to fly on it's last passenger flight from Timmins to Toronto last week.
It was very fitting that we flew C-GKTA; the very first Dash 8-300 to be delivered to an airline; specifically Time air.
This is a flight I will always remember! Huge shoutout to the amazing crew who just made this flight even more special.

Wow, I should've been there
It would have made for a great video! Lol
I thought you would have been on this flight!
@@kevyno It's an inside joke between Mark and I, we were both there haha. This is mine: ruclips.net/video/0wOKbKmYX7s/видео.html
LMAO
@@MarkBrandonAviation Air Canada Express is not Retiring Their Dash 8s, they still have them in their fleet
I cried so loud at the end. I first ride it when I was 2 and I will miss it and I hope to see it in a museum
Wonderful video Mark. Between you and Mark I got a good sense of that last flight. I was the dispatcher who planned that flight. Cheers from YHZ
Really a big mistake for retiring them. The smaller Dashes could fly into smaller airports that the Q400 cannot. With the loss of the sub-50 seat aircraft in the AC network, many regional airports will lose service entirely or have frequencies significantly cut.
Besides that, the Dash 8-100 and -300 aren't even that old. They're very well maintained and as you've shown, the cabin is still perfectly adequate for its mission.
Jazz will find themselves regretting this huge mistake of retiring them. Bombardier too, when they managed the Dash 8 program, made the mistake of discontinuing them, not realising the essential service that these small aircraft provide.
Amazing video! What a legendary aircraft indeed! Long Live the mighty Dash!
The pilot's speech was amazing. So appropriate
Never flown on Dash 8 Q300 but it changed my view on Aviation.Love them seeing them fly over our house on final especially the sound it made!
I managed one flight on this plane . . KI455/18APR - 1999 - YYC-YEG - Sat in 2B. for a 0:33 flight. Really great video. Living abroad now I just don't get to see many propeller planes any more.
Being head of the Time Air Historical Society, we are still hoping to acquire C-GKTA when it finishes its last flying. C-GKTA, C-GEWQ, and C-FTAK are three of at least four -300's that received an extended life update. This gives the aircraft approximately 15-20,000 more flight hours. We suspect cargo hauling until it hits those flight hours. Jazz and Voyageur (where the aircraft are being transferred to) are aware of, and have left the door open to us. With KTA being production aircraft #1, it being branded a "Boeing Canada-deHavilland division" aircraft, and Time Air being the world launch airline.... this aircraft is too important to both us and Canadian aviation to be sent to the scrappers.
My guess is they will be flying for many more years in the cargo world???
Wow. what a paint job. (or lack there of)!!
Do you know if this airplane will be converted to a freighter? I know puralator is using some
awesome moment friend..safe flight
Isn't that Alex Praglowski boarding the plane at 2:11 - 2:12?
If it’s a moving skyscraper then yes
Great video
We still have 23 in New Zealand
Wait, did you meet the guy sitting in seat 1A???
Having heard that speech twice (watched Alex's video earlier) I can only imagine this guy having his wedding onboard, the altar at the back and his wife literally walking down the aisle.
A parked 747 would be perfect on the upper deck.
Great video Mark, and an experience to remember. I enjoyed the Captain's comments; all of the aircrews I have ever spoken to have nothing but good things to say about the Dash-8. I'm sure another smaller carrier will fly this plane for many more years. The fact that not even the Q400 can land at some of the airports that the Dash-8's visit is a look into Air Canada's plans of the future - eliminate small markets.
Did you you get a chance too talk with Alex Progloski who was on that flight in the first row?
A great sendoff for the classic Dash8, nice video Mark! Liked the extra cabin/flight deck clips at the end there.
Alas, all good things must come to an end. RIP Classic Dash....and thank you. :)
amazing Mark thanks!
DC-3 of the 21st century that's an interesting statement.
