Let me apologise on behalf of NIN fans for the certain few children throwing temper tantrums that a pop musician would dare to touch their more niche song and acting like this cover doesn't have a right to exist. Personally I prefer the original but am really glad that Miley is branching out from her old generic pop sound and paying homage to a master like Trent, Im also glad for the amount of pop fans who probably only listened to what was being played on the radio who discovered NIN here and may have started a journey into other genres of music from this.
It's more of a stay in your lane thing (garbage pop music crying about how your 56th bf broke your heart) and leave the originals alone but than again I understand the other pov too.
@@r2d2musk6 Stay in your lane? Really? The original is fine. Don’t worry. Stop being a snob. And you don’t know the difference between “then” and “than”. Your opinion is invalid.

Never really thought about Miley till I heard this. Now I have great respect for her as an artist. Never in a million years would I have thought she would cover this song and nail it. Amazingly surprising.
This is sweet, she killed it. I was totally taken off guard when I saw her on Black Mirror and did not know she did it at a music festival too. I love both these artists but never expected one to cover the other. When's the NIN cover of Party in the USA?! Haha....
Nails is my all time favourite band and I think Miley has, excuse the pun, Nailed it! Loved her in Black Mirror and she's obviously taken this song to heart. Excellent performance.
I've been around since NIN was brand new, I'm an old metal head and I love this. (I like industrial stuff too I'm not having that argument RN) I've been waiting for Miley to finally come out of that factory shell that was forced on her. This is the real Miley folks. We'll be seeing more of this, and that southern rock too. But I see this being something she needs to get out, since it's been building her whole career.
Its a solid stab at trying out the cover. Good on her. Everyone should acknowledge that this is a live performance and not a studio recording. Of course its imperfect.
The fact that she performed this epically while going through a divorce, losing her house in a fire, being malnourished and running on empty because of her strict vegan diet and had a panic attack on the plane over there speaks volumes of her inner strength
As a musician, I can tell you, when it's time to go to work, you leave the rest of you life outside the stage, and you're in a totally different reality. I'd say health is the only one that can still effect you, when it gets bad enough...i.e.: Steven Tyler laying on the front of the stage with a bottle in one hand and the mic in his other hand, and not able to move, just screeching on the mic.....or Syd Barrett wobbling around the stage not even singing, while Roger Waters had to do all the singing, cause Syd was just too mentally ill to do anything....but....you look at people like Dave Grohl..built his own throne to perform on stage with a broken leg...I mean...music does wonders, but somethings even music can't fix. \m/ :) \m/
The fact that she can create a series of problems for herself than deal with the repercussions isn't impressive. Also because she's a talentless hack born into fame instead of earning it she borrows what other creative people have created and manages to make them lesser.
So she can do country, pop and punk/grudge rock. She just became a triple threat and I'm here for it. Also I'm just imagining her singing this to a certain... company
....how can people not know that she is singing it because she made the song for a black mirror episode? She is not just randomly making a cover of the song. This is the end credit song for the black mirror episode she starred in.
Miley is so amazing! My favourite song, my favourite album, her band is killin, everything about this performance is perfect. Even down to the Trent Reznor 1988 backup vocals. Incredible!!!!
She already did the song, just a different version that Trent wrote. “On A Roll” she released as Ashley O, a character she played on some Netflix show. On A Roll and Right Where I Belong. Not bad for Pop tunes from Miley as Ashley O!
She said doing stadium performances was "like, the end of her humanity" or something like that. she's just bein real. can't slag it. Also - black mirror y'all
There’s a lot of people on here that I’m just going to assume have never seen the Black Mirror episode. If you watched it, you’d know why she did this. I personally thought the episode was well done! Edit: Hardcore NIN fan since Pretty Hate Machine here.
It's great that Miley is driving a Nine Inch Nail into her Hannah persona, I have seen her with Joan Jett and Billy Idol as well. I think it is good that she is breaking new ground for herself rather than following in Daddy's footsteps. Will I buy a Miley CD? Not likely but I can appreciate the effort she is making.
This might have been brought about by a fictional character's aunt, but let's face it. This is about Disney. Congrats to Miley from escaping the mouse trap relatively unscathed, and generally better for the ordeal.
Long time Nails fan here, and I think the cover is fine. IMO better than when AFI covered it. Shit, I’d be thrilled if Miley were up for doing vox in some of my music. She has a gruffness to her voice that would work.
I must confess I found the cover lacking a bit of guts, but I loved her choice and attitude. Maybe after a few more shows this is going to be perfect.❤
NIN fan here. It's a good sound. The band nailed the spirit of the song, even if at times it sounds too much like the original as NIN performs it, with just Miley putting her vocals on it. But they all got the spirit and sound right and rocked out. It sounds ominous, mean, dramatic, and like an intense battle cry, which is what it needs to sound like. I like the the loud 4 notes in the final part that are louder than anything else. I can't tell if that was guitar or synth, but it brings that part out nicely at the end.
I don't understand what you're talking about. The performance is soulless and there's nothing invested. There are no questions about anyone except the vocalist, I just don't understand why she does this, like many other covers of great songs. It's also very funny that Industry Plant sings an anti-capitalist song. Technically the performance is not bad, otherwise it's tasteless, causes dissonance and makes you want to vomit.
@@mur5799 soulless to whom i can literally see her invested in the performance just because you love the original doesnt mean that nobody else can't sing it original is in youtube if you cannot connect to this go to the original. Clearly this song means something for Miley

I just sought out covers if this NIN song after hearing the DEVO cover and being really surprised. I'm not Miley fan but I really like her version.
