We've got 3 of them between us and our kids, and have had a pole break on each one. Same story, don't know how they broke it just happened. The team at Crashpad have been brilliant and sent a pair of poles each time via express post at no charge. Cannot fault their service and love their product. Great review Ronny
A tip if you break one of your swag or tent poles. .. Cut a 15-20 cm piece off an old gardening hose. If your pole breaks, poke it through the hose and then wrap gaffer/duct tape around the ends.
Excellent honest and thorough review as always. Love how you wait for ages to review a product as opposed to some who want to review when it arrives in the mail. 👍🏼
I LOVE my Crash Pad Swag. Best feature is how quick and easy it is to set up. The simple fact that you don’t have to thread the pole through a canvass section make it that much easier and quicker. I also find the mattress super comfy. Also love how it is free standing and doesn’t need to be pegged out. I normally set it up on a stretcher so I’m off the ground which helps keeping it dry especially under the awning. The flaps also have eyelets which I sometimes use with a pole to aid in ventilation but still some privacy. Great review Ronny and love the channel 👍👍
G’day Ronny, great feedback, I have had my black Strealth for 3 years now, and my double for 2 years. I bought my first swag when I was about 14. In the 30 plus years of sleeping in swags my Crashpad is the best by a country mile! Cheers Richard.
8 ended up getting a king single forest. When I watched this review months ago you 100% sold me on a crashpad. Perfect for camping with the boys, and the tent for camping with the fam
One of my old swags had a 50mm mattress and found it pretty uncomfortable because I sleep on my side, I suppose sleeping on your back you wouldn't notice it. Nice video Ronny! 👌
Not a bad swag mate! I've had a few swags and now i believe i have found the best one ever! ARB Touring swag version 2 (has extra door). Absolutely love it. It is the tallest i believe in its class, freestanding like the Crashpad and i love the internal pockets and how strong the swag is. I know Ronny you don't like the 5 poles but i believe it makes the canvas more tight when setup and just feels robust. I use it on an Oztent stretcher and i absolutely love it. I also love the over centre main door for star gazing.
Awesome review!!! Iv had mine for well over 12 months an it is hands down the best swag iv ever owned. I sleep better in it then my bed at home. I also have the crashpad sleeping bags and the are the bomb!
great review thanks Ronnie, but I'll stick to the camper trailer, so it takes 10 minutes to set up but I get a queen size double bed a change room and a kitchen.
I've had my swag for over 15 years. It has no poles or flexible rods and it's designed to fit between the Wheel Arches on a well body ute. The mattress has the egg carton shaped on one side and is still very comfortable. I've never bothered about tarping under the swag and I've been in some heavy rain storms. I've always remained dry, in these situations. I've only used it in the south-west and though the great Southern regions of west Oz. Beach, bush, through the Escarpment, in all seasons. My personal thoughts; if a Swag has poles all flexible rods, its a tent.
I own a Swag and i have alot of poles snap on it . I'm looking at buying one at some stage but ATM my swag is doing me well. I do like how the Crash pad comes in alot of colours. Always like your reviews Ronny.
Guilty!!! Ive packed away my oztent rv3 strapped it to the roof rack and wondered where my keys were... 😂😂😂 fml. Looks like a good swag my have to give one a go.
@@toddmillar4041 hey mate. Its really easy to set up on ya own. Literally takes 30 seconds to erect the tent. Bit longer if u use all the ropes and pegs. The most difficult bit is putting it on the roof rack/ taking it off. Its about 2 meters long and weighs about 24kgs. So not to heavy, i have my mrs to help grab one half off the roof rack. Lots of room for 2 self inflating mattresses, and all our bags of clothes ect. The awning space that it comes with is really spacious and ive not needed my car awning set up since having the rv tent. I also sit it on a large c gear mat. Keeps the sand away extremely well. Its a good tent solid quality and lots of room. Con is its pack down size, definitley needs a roof rack to transport it around.
I bought one of these recently based on the reviews of Ronny and Harry from F2F. Gotta say I was very disappointed. It had a hole in the canvas which I meant I couldn’t use it for my upcoming trip and when we contacted them they only offered to exchange the shell, no mention of a refund. I thought generally it was pretty poor quality compared to my Darche Megadome so we returned it and still waiting for a refund.
So we returned the swag to crashpad and asked for a refund, the ignored our request and sent us a replacement. When we asked them why they said under consumer law they didn't have to provide a refund for a minor issue. So a hole in the canvas is a minor issue? Ronny, I wouldn't be associating yourself with these guys, this is just like the crap customer service Rhino rack provided to Tyler Thompson and needs to be called out.
I own this one and this is the first review I've seen since I've owned it. I fully agree with you, I took mine across the nullarbor on the back of a motorbike and it was (flippin) awesome. I'd rec it to any of my mates.
Hey Ronny, you need to come down East Gippsland, plenty of snow here most years. Try Howitt Highplans or pretty much of the high plains, end of May/1st wk of June (just before parks close them). I have done this with my brother several years in a row and always worth it. Cheers mate
Ronny you should convince ARB to expand their equipment here in the states. I’d love to have their double swag to promote it. Our canvas wall tents, are big and most of the time do t have a floor. Our small tents (swag size) are junk thin materials like a kite material. I think they’d hit well over here
Good review young felah, never owned a swag l generally use a tarp or a small tent. The body is starting to go through the aging process so l can't do it rough these days, swag seems a lot more comfortable, like all swags you need to season them before you go out to the snow or wet weather.😁😁
Not sure if this will help others but I'd go straight to your local canvas repairer and get the crappy plastic buckles changed over to metal 'D' rings. I've broken both plastic buckles on my Crashpad double now.
I have a kulkyne double but is the same design basically. Being 110kg I find any swag mattress not enough. I bought a couple of cheap single size self inflating mats and slide them under the mattress. They are only 25mm thick but provide that extra cushioning and I don’t bottom out.
They may be good, but personally I won't buy a swag unless it has a pvc bucket floor where the pvc extends up the sides. I've woken to pooled water and not a single drop inside. I can also enter from both sides and both ends so bedding doesn't get wet when entering in rain. Also has a hoop inside to hang a mini lantern, better spread of light than a hand held light. Thanks for review.
Thank you for your honesty upfront about your relationship with Crashpad. My concern with this swag is the packed size, but that's only because I primarily use backpacking tents. If you packed it away wet how long before the canvas gets musty?
I was about to buy one last week but at the moment Crashpad are out of stock of every swag they sell (due to COVID I guess). Hopefully they get more in soon.
I have a Darche Dirty dee, I think you should give it a shot sometime Ronny. I believe Darche also have a swag called the Dusk to Dawn which is literally identical to this swag, Either must be very similar design or they're manufactured in the same factory or share some connection, Either way I've never heard anything negetive about them. Great unbiased review Ronny.. I put a pair of HTX 230s on my Jimny because of your review of them afew years ago, I may just consider a Crashpad for my partner who I will be purchasing a swag for soon too.
No please give a dishonest review! I see reviews start with my honest review kinda would be implied or better to so in my option. That really is more fitting. Thanks for doing it and helps make my purchase easier. When I read my honest review I really consider just passing on by. Some thing to consider, In my option. Take care and stay safe.
I'm puzzled as to why one would have to "seal" a swag/tent after purchase and why they are not sealed as part of the manufacturing process. I know some brands do seal the seams, but most don't and it's considered "normal" for a new tent to leak and the customer is expected to fix that issue on their own.
The correct term is seasoning, not sealing. Although that is essentially what you're doing. It's a requirement of new canvas products. You're supposed to just hose down your swag in the back yard then let it fully dry. The cotton swells up as it absorbs the water and will seal all the holes formed during manufacturing, waterproofing your swag.
Much like a RTT, I really like the swag but I just cant justify either when I don't have any overlanding/wilderness tracks in my area. Instead, I have a number of state parks where a 5lb 2p tent would do fine. I agree that a camping trailer with RTT is pretty sweet, but by the time I save up the money I'll have a family and have to stick with tents or get a pop up rv for the space/heat/AC/inside cabin room.
I live in Wisconsin and just got my crashpad swag spent a few nights in it and absolutely love it. Glad I watched your channel and found out about swags. Can’t wait to be back out in it this weekend. Oh and the shipping from Australia to US was super cheap and way faster than I thought
I like the black colour, but I'm partial to the orange one I think. It seems that every trip someone seems to trip over my green swag at night when I'm in it
I would think a good trick in the heat would be to soak it down and make the entire swag an evaporative cooler. Anyone have experience trying that with a swag? In the US Army, we had large hanging canvas water dispenser bags. The evaporation kept the water cool no matter the temp. I would think the same principle applies.

I would just like to say I appreciate these vids and thank you!!. I've also been visited by the ol' broken pole mystery bandit!.

Hey hey. You have to check out the "wingman of the road " tent. I think that is a swag from England for bikers that you and the aussies could love. Cheers from Germany
So, I'm curious why you like swags instead of tents? And what is the functional difference between a swag and a dog house shaped tent? Over here in the USA we don't see swags much, but there tents in every size and share imaginable, and they pack down to about the same size with your mattress and sleeping bag. So, why swags?

Swag is good. Besides some water ingress during wet weather where some stitching is. Even after seasoning. Mattress is rubbish bought a exped to replace it
I wonder why Crashpad make the crash mat larger than the swag. Backpacking 101 teaches you that having your tent footprint slightly smaller than your tent keeps you away from water, but having a footprint that is larger than your tent just creates channels for water to run beneath your tent.
I went with the single, the double isn't available in America right now. Bit its fine because i want to put it on a cot and i dont feel like dealing with a double cot
Guido Kühn has drawn some Land Rover cartoons. In one there is a Land Rover pulling a second Land Rover on a trailer. He tells his mate: „Nothing ever breaks if you have a spare of it!“. The other one asks: „What about the trailer?“.
Had been wondering what you guys were sleeping in. Im looking to get one as well look way more reliable and last longer. Need something for those quick weekends no needing offroad trailer. Too bad all sold out at the moment good on that small business.
At the moment I use a stretcher bed and and a very compat size swag with a tarp over top that I took onto the side of the car. Just like to know if you can camp with out a tarp underneath the swag
Australian regards this swag as shitty. Look at the Mr Swagman ultimate King Single. We in Australian call that a swag. The Crashpad is a chinese knock off
