wether you like this version or not think we can all agree that Midge is one of the most talented musicians this country has produced in the last thirty years no doubt about it
I am 71 yrs old & didn’t realise what a powerful voice James has....love this song.. Midge URE. “You are a legend” your voice has gotten better over the years :) you certainly can make that guitar sing!! X
Brilliant performance of A BRILLIANT song that he wrote for 'VISAGE' who had a massive worldwide hit with it! He is an amazing multi instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, producer, etc etc and is very low key about his endless charity work! Saw him live this week 16/05/23 in Blackburn, Lancashire! He did not disappoint ! dx
Agree 1000% . Saw him at at small club last month in Fort Lauderdale and he was incredible.. And so down to earth... One of our eras BEST performers, singers, songwriters, musicians..
absolutely love Ultravox, u would never get sick of hearing the any of their songs, because of them Steve strange, Spandau ballet, Duran Duran & others I really appreciate the romantic music!
Actually he didn't, it was Chris Payne and Billy Currie whilst they were touring with Gary Numan, and then Midge added lyrics later to turn it into a Visage song
Midge Ure once described the greed of groupies with regards to his manhood as follows 'Give them an inch.....they take the full cock!'.....I may have just made this up but I kinda want it to be true..😊
You made Let's rock Wales 2019. This song and your words about our idol Steve Strange brilliant. I actually came for Vienna, but this cover was even better in the moment.
Tough to comment here - Midge's guitar and voice as always, A1, as is his contribution to music. The 1981 synth version is subtle, fitting with the era, and a little more than nostalgically sustaining.
Don't miss Midge Ure performing 'Vienna' by Ultravox in full, Visage classics and other greatest hits. 2019 uk . Will be Brill Night Out. Check out Breath , Best Album ever by Midge Ure ..
They wrote it with Chris Payne from Tubeway Army. Steve Strange controversially said he co wrote it by translation of English to French lyrics part of the song.
@@Lamster66 Chris Payne was a member of Tubeway Army from 1979. Later on, they dropped the name, and then he formed Dramatis.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubeway_Army
Steve Strange was never a singer, Midge had to work with him, there’s a lot of harmony work on the first 2 albums. A club host and fashion icon, yes, stupid, never! Midge didn’t want to lead another band at the time, after ending Rich Kids and touring with Thin Lizzy. It was Rusty Egan that had to push him into joining Ultravox, and a bloody good job he did too 😀
Oh cheeky devil - he did a killer version of this tonight at the Koolhaus in Toronto on the Retro Futura tour, but told the audience he'd never done it live before. It was fantastic!!
Hahaha, he told us the same thing Friday night in LA. I felt all special, thinking he was doing this song just for us! Oh well. No matter! It was fantastic to hear this one live.
I saw Midge perform Fade to Grey live on his first solo The Gift, in 1986, I believe. Do any of you know that Midge actually wrote the song? And Visage was actually his band! So he has every right to do it his way! More guitar please.
Yes Ure co wrote this with Billy Curry (also of Ultravox) both were members of Visage. Visage was an early 80's 'supergroup' with only Steve Strange as exclusively a member of the band, everyone else was a member of other groups as well a part of Visage.
You should've listened to Midge's 1985 version on his first solo 'The Gift' tour as I did. Absolutely awesome! Forget synthesisers, works better on Midge's Fender Stratocaster and he makes it his own as he should.
Hi actually Fade to Grey was co written by Ure and Billy Currie Also of Ultravox. I wasn't Ure's Band; Visage was a New Romantic 'supergroup' all the members were in other bands except Strange who ran a night club and sang. (I'm related to Dave 'Formula' Tomlinson)
Joe Kidd wrote by Billy Currie and Chris Payne originally, Midge worked on it later with them. Visage were a studio project also consisting of Rusty Egan, and Magazine members John McGeoch, Dave Formula and Barry Adamson. Fronted by Steve Strange.
I read that Steve could only sing by singing along to Midge's demo vocal in headphones so all the phrasing, timing and intonation is really from Midge.
wether you like this version or not

Midge Ure, one of the most underated performers and song writers
Brilliant performer and artist
No he isn't! Nobody doesn't rate him. Buy a dictionary. Look up "underrated".
Definitely not underrated
@@markrae1317 he was good in gary numan
@@davethecrow In what sense?
Midge ure is a very underrated guitarist.
Spot on me thinks his spell with Thin Lizzy helped him also.
Midge Ure once said he was probably the worst guitar player to ever perform with Thin Lizzy.
Underrated song writer
I was amazed how good a guitarist he is
I’m 47 and only just realising the shear talent of Midge Ure!!! Legend
I am 71 yrs old & didn’t realise what a powerful voice James has....love this song..
Midge URE. “You are a legend” your voice has gotten better over the years :) you certainly can make that guitar sing!! X
This is beautiful, the vocals and music. I would love to see Midge perform live, the extra guitars bring a new dimension to the song.

One of the most underrated artists ever
Why?
Midge goes under the radar pretty much forever.
Midge Ure is pure talent. 💓
I knew Midge was a good guitarist but didn't know he was that good. He was the brains behind Visage.
What are you smoking? Chris Payne and Billy Currie were the brains behind Visage. Midge is a hack!!!!
He wasn't the brains behind visage... the Ultravox provided the backing of Steve strange
Ure was recruited by Thin Lizzy to do an American tour and turned down becoming a permanent member. ✌️🤘🏴☠️🇦🇺
Seen Midge Ure perform this a few times on his solo gigs and it just shows what a class act he is and great songwriter.......
Midge Ure’s guitar sustain has always been incredible. Not many guitar players can pull it off. One off IMO.
The mark of a good song is how well it translates for different treatments. This is superb.
Had the privilege of seeing Midge Ure live a few times. He nails every performance. The man is top drawer.
I've seen him several times as well and he was fab each time. Only once did I see him perform with Ultravox and the rest were solo performances
One of the best British performers! Midge is nearly out there by himself…….there are a couple of great singers/performers running alongside him!
Ultravox reunion concert is something else magic
Amazing version..... Can't wait to se Midge in Hastings.....
This is nearly twenty years old and I'm only just seeing it for the first time. Nice version!
My favorite Visage song ............. a hug from Perú 🎵♥️🎗️🌷👍…
it's amazing how much midge ure meant to the world of music even behind the scenes... underrated legend
Brilliant. Happy birthday Midge. Love your music
Love it ! Drummer absolutely nailed it.
midge time you got your O.B.E. for your contribution to music.i like the sound of sir midge
With the catalog Midge Ure has, it's a crime more people don't know who he is.
I think most people know who he is and what he has written....
You would be surprised how many people don't know who he is.

🤘 Mr Ure. So kool you and Thin Lizzy did not work out. Your music is your own. ✌️🏴🇦🇺
He does a fantastic job, I love watching him play that guitar...brilliant!!
he played guitar in thin lizzy for a brief spell
Midge Ure wrote this Song and also performed with Steve Strange as Visage. It is his Song

This is one hell of a version!
This is a very good performance.

I saw him play at The Ritz in NYC in the 80s. He was fantastic. Played Do they know it’s Christmas. Amazing. Love him. A fantastic artist.
Love his guitar tone...

I was at this concert & it was a brilliant show
Fantastic performance read his autobiography last year highly entertaining. Great entertainer and song writer.
The simplicity of Steve Strange's version makes the song timeless. This, nonetheless, is nice.
Steve Strange's version? That was Midge Ure, Billy Currie and Rusty Egan!!
That's not fade to Grey. That's rubbish.

Fade To Grey
Lyrics
One man on a lonely platform
One case sitting by his side
Two eyes staring cold and silent
Shows fear as he turns to hide
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Feel the rain like an English summer
Hear the notes from a distant song
Stepping out from a back drop poster
Wishing life wouldn't be so long
(Devenir gris)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
(Devenir gris)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
(Devenir gris)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
Aaah, we fade to grey (fade to grey)
(Devenir gris)
