    This is perfect. I've just started learning finger waves, and I was having a really hard time. My instructor goes a little too fast for me, and this video lets me watch it again and again. Thank you very much! This video is better than my instructor!

    As a professional stylist that I'm now 7 years . Finger wave are important to keep on practicing ! Because you never know who will be the next client sitting on your chair faking for a retro finger wave style for a decade party ! Thanks for sharing , I learn from everyone in the industry every single day! Love it

    This is a totally authentic, back to the past, technique shown. I graduated from Heights Beauty School in '66--this video is exactly what state board expected.

    Ahhh! Cosmotology school flashback lol
    I never had one real request for finger waves though. I think state board exams would be better if they required things like texturizing, scissor over comb and multiple hair type/ethnicity skills instead of finger waves and pin curls like we had to do in the 90s.

      Omg!
      The nerve of these schools to teach finger dexterity! To require people to know how to work with hair from every angle, with and without heat! And don't get me started on how the exam has nothing to do with actually doing hair skin or nails and EVERYTHING to do with Sanitation, disinfection, and Client Protection! They should be ashamed of themselves!.. If you don't get it? You never will..

    • @enchamade8
      @enchamade8 4 года назад +4

      Thirty years ago, when I was in cosmetology school, I didn't think I would ever need to know how to do finger waves, nor did I think clients would want them. Then...after a few years behind the chair I decided that I wanted to work in TV, feature films, and theatre. Period hairstyle knowledge and techniques are imperative if those industries are something you're interested in. Learn EVERYTHING you can, and be versatile with your skills. You won't regret it.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel
    @BeautyHealthTravel  11 лет назад +4

    You welcome! Thanks for watching. Maybe Texas state board will adopt the NIC testing and drop the fingerwave part of the test, but, the good news is, that if you lean how to do finger waves, you will be able to mold any type of hair to any direction; it is a great exercise for finger dexterity for hairdressers. Plus you will be able to do them for shows, photo shoots, videos, etc.

    We just learned this at school on Friday! It is no longer part of our Provincial exam for Cosmetology in Canada. But still fun to learn and such a great vintage style making a comeback in movies. Thanks for sharing! XO

    • @richelleandre9729
      @richelleandre9729 10 лет назад

      The de-regulation of the industry made it unnecessary to take this exam beyond your regular diploma exam or apprenticeship work. I am in BC and you have the option to obtain hours through a school and get a diploma or apprenticing. That's it, you're done. But for those who want to go on and get the qualification, you bet your butt this is on the exam. Ugh.

    • @GirlArmy21
      @GirlArmy21 10 лет назад

      Do you have to still write for your license in BC? In NS, we do school and then go for licensing exams - written and practical.

    • @richelleandre9729
      @richelleandre9729 10 лет назад

      there is a written and practical administered by the school, yes. You are considered licensed at that point in BC, and Alberta, and probably a few other provinces

    • @GirlArmy21
      @GirlArmy21 10 лет назад

      Richelle Andre Wow, not in NS. We do our exams in school to get our diploma....and then an all day licensing exam with the Province (CANS-Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia). We do written tests all morning at the Association...and practical (including colour application, perm set, cut (90 degree cut) and style in the afternoon-all assessed/graded as you go.

    • @richelleandre9729
      @richelleandre9729 10 лет назад

      Yes, this is what it used to be. It was deregulated and the west. I guess I should rephrase and say that licensing is no longer required to practice, as opposed to having your "official license" when you receive your diploma. Geez, I should visit NS to take my licensing exam. Finger waves, skip waves and roller set is added to your list for the licensing option I have to take in BC. Best of luck to you!!

      It will look the same when it's dry if you don't comb the hair, or it will be large waves if you comb after the finger wave has dried.

    This is my favorite hairstyle ever! I had a hairstylist do this specific style for a friends wedding many years ago.
    Its a beautiful hairstyle, but also one that really puts the "pain" in the phrase "beauty is pain". The hairstyle itself is not physically painful. Just a pain to fall asleep because you can't lye down in bed in any other way other than face down. So for 3 days straight I slept seated my face in my arms.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel
    @BeautyHealthTravel  13 лет назад

    @williedrums You are right. It is a routine way of giving out instructions; all the state board procedures start with "washing hands with soap and water" and all the books state the procedures that way, too. I am sure you will feel much better knowing that the state board has changed washing hands to sanitizing it with any hand sanitizer, and you won't hear the annoying wash with soap and water any longer. Hope this makes you feel better.

    You welcome! Fingerwave styles are back as editorial styles for magazines and runway, so it is important to know how to do them, or if you are not going to do them directly, at least know the shape to make them with pin curls or curling iron. I have a lot of videos that show how; one of them is my latest Brenton Lee video; he makes the waves with pin curls.

  • @BeautyHealthTravel
    @BeautyHealthTravel  13 лет назад

    @pinkatastrophe We also use the regular gel; it is thick and holds the wave really good. A chemist friend of mine told me that the ingredients of all gels are alike; they all have PVP resin, water and very few ingredients. The only difference is the thickness. The simple 99c store gel is thick enough. Just don't get the gel with a lot of air bubbles; their only use is to make the amount of gel look more than it really is.

    Styles come and go; but movie production companies have time period movies that require the hairdresser to know how to do finger waves. You can also partially incorporate a fingerwave to a style. It also develops great finger dexterity for the new hairdressers. If you can learn to mold the hair this way: you can mold the hair in any other way that you desire. Hope this answers your question. :)

    • @BeautyHealthTravel
      @BeautyHealthTravel  9 месяцев назад

      It depends which state the board is in, but not necessary for California. It is good to know how to do it for style or a trend, also build finger dexterity for new hairdressers.

    @Abramdjek Your question was not so clear, but I will try to explain. Do you mean that you are using water to fingerwave in Empire Beauty School; in that case, it will be harder to finger wave, but it is possible, but, after that you will be able to finger wave with any product. Maybe the instructors want you to learn the hard way, or the school does not want to provide gel.Abramdjek asked; we must use finger wave lotion and we can't find that why we doing with water NYC Empire Beauty School

    the #1 product for hair styling solutions during that time and into the late 60's was called Dri Fast?? it came in a clear, curvy glass container like what the real tabasco sauce is sold in. There was a sandy colored, gritty-like precipitate (looked like sand/sediment) at the bottom of the container. It was shaken and then was mixed in gallon containers in the salon. There was a mild unique fragrance to it, but did not interfere with the hairspray's fragrance. It was a professional product.

    @NeishaShow You can get the doll heads from most beauty supply stores, like Sally's Beauty Supply or online.

    @dominicanpride95 Thank you! You can use any kind of gel, even from 99c stores. Setting lotion will do well, too, but, in reality, it is like diluted gel.
