Dad and I restored classics until 2yrs ago when he was diagnosed with cancer...I showed this to him yesterday. He said let's open the old shop again and build one. You created a one of a kind Sir...very impressive..bet you get some heads turned as well.
I am sorry to hear about your father hope he can at least get back in the shop even if not a lot of progress is made. The important part is the time spent together. My dad and I did machining and job work out of our home shop. We had classic cars that we cleaned up never were able to finish the cars we were restoring do to my health issues. I would like to have those cars now that he is gone but the times we had working together are some of my best memories. Good luck.
I’ve built many cars over the decades. I know how much work is required. This takes the whole damn cake! I just couldn’t fathom the engineering and effort this took.
@@tims63falcon: that doesn't surprise me...Dad and I have spent that kind of time on some with out the retractable top. Case in point..going on 10 yrs on a 64 El Camino ( only because the owner keeps changing or adding modifications) we handed it over to some other capable hands as Dad closed up shop due to cancer 😢
It take for ever...........to open that first hatch. And see it close again....! Then await the moment we all wait for to reveal thats whats in the back. And almost like its magic when he makes that one roof disappear, then he pulls out this second roof out of the back! So ive been watching video's of all these motorhome conversions and it totally took me off guard thinking something else of some mobile shelter would appair...!? Still very clean nice looking car great build awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
This one is an awesome conversion. I had a HS friend who bought a running 63 Falcon as his first car (1985) for like 200 bucks and ended up spending 300 for new tires and a jack. Of course his 'friends' jacked up his car and hid the tires from him. :)
My 1st car when I was 16 was a 1963 Ford Falcon 2 door, just like this. Not retractable, of course. It had a 200 cubic inch inline 6 with a 3 speed automatic transmission. Bucket seats and a cool chrome console. That car saw a lot of hard miles, and a shitload of partying! Lol. I put a thumping Alpine system in it. That car never let me down, and I actually blew one of my friends away when I left his house one time - somehow I was able to get the tire to break loose by power braking it, and left a patch about 50 feet long in front of his house. Lol. They talked about that at school for weeks! 1983. I'd give anything to go back and do it again. These kids today will never know what it was like to live without cell phones and computers. The world was a much better place. And don't even get me started about the music.
Too bad you didn’t have the Falcon Sprint with the 260 V8 and a 4-speed. I liked those better than the Mustang. (They shared most components under the skin!)
VERY interesting! A black falcon is cool on it's own. You've made yours way extra cool. Wire wheel covers on trailer and better fitting rear cover would take it over the top!
I'm a Chevy Corvette guy from those days, but the 63 is one of the best looking Falcons ever. Then this genius invents this. Fantastic, I'm almost jealous!!!
I didn't read the description first. As I was watching I was thinking "They manufactured a car that goes from being a normal four seater to a two seater with no cargo space, that you have to tow a trailer behind with the rest of the car in." Then I saw the bloke had built it himself and thought "He's very clever and skilled to make that "
In 1957 I came out of a movie theater, in Alabama, with my parents (I was 8 y/o) and a crowd had gathered to watch a new Ford encapsulate it's roof into it's trunk as shown in this video. People were shocked and in awe of this contraption. This little Falcon looks slick, like it came as a factory option. I can assure you it did not.
I have always been a fan of the 57 Skyliner. I always said if I can't afford one, then I will build one. It took me 5 years of evenings and weekends to put this guy together but I have fun with it. My objective from day one was to try to keep it to look like a factory job. The biggest negative comments I get are that it moves too slow. I am going to be selling it to let someone else enjoy it while I move on to the next project. Thanks for the compliment
The tonneau cover is a little bulky for my personal taste but the car itself definitely makes a statement! Ford should have made ragtop Falcon with a tonneau cover like the Thunderbird roadster. I am glad you created one.
A bit much to have to tow a trailer to house the tonneau cover, couldn't it have been carried in the trunk and pull it out half way through the lengthy retraction process? Awesome design though, I'd just rather change it at home instead of towing the trailer even though it is also an awesome setup on its own.
This is amazing. And just look at the guy with the orange shirt (the owner and builder probably ?), he looks so proud! Takes a lot of pure passion to achieve this, absolutely wonderful piece of work.
At first,,,,,, I was thinking, my Mercedes completes it's top down in 15 seconds,,, but, then I realized this man had created this beautiful, unique automobile by himself, and for himself,,,, beautiful car, beautiful person, beautiful video!!!❤️🇫🇷💋
You are a great designer and intelligent engineer. The world needs more men like you. I wish I had the money to buy one or have you design one for me. Thank you Deborah
WOW! Even the factory couldn't make them consistently reliable and that's why they ceased production, You sir are a skilled craftsman FORD should have done this to the Falcon
My dad's first car was a 1959 skyliner. He had it till the 1980s...he wants to get one again but they are too expensive for regular people to afford now.
That is pure awesomeness! I've always had a soft spot for this body style Falcon after I learn to drive on my mom's red 4 door 6cyl 3 on the tree in 1972. The amount of ingenuity and genius it took to create this blows my mind. Probably the only retractable Falcon on Earth! I know it needs to look close to stock but the only thing I'd add would be 8 Crager classic wheels and keep the stock wheel covers sealed in plastic to preserve them. I'd give almost anything for the car and matching trailer. I bet he has a matching pool table too.
All I can say is wow I was an auto body man for twenty years that is great A1 a lot of painstaking work went into that you should be very proud and you enjoy it well done

Then watch it fill with water and trash during the week and start putting the top back on the next friday night. LOL.

Great comment 🤣🤣🤣

It's to fast!
