I grew up just down the road in North newportland. I can remember seeing some of the remainder of the buildings when they draw the lake down really low. I would love to sit down with someone who use to live there. It always makes me wonder what it was like when I go fishing o it there.

I'm pretty sure the barn directly across road from where the New Portland Library is now was disassembled in Flagstaff and moved to that spot. Also barn in Embden by field and main road has very small pond helped someone get hay there once and the old man showed the boards inside the barn from where they numbered for when they reassembled the barn. Place has a lot of cool history. I used go up there a lot and camp when younger.

A gorgeous mountain valley, filled with water. That land not only had homes but it was also a lot of wild habitat.

Central Maine Power continues to raise hackles in this part of the world. Metering issues, overcharging customers, and now a new power corridor. The company won't win any awards for good citizenship.

it's kind of a creepy lake in that it's generally pretty shallow with lots of barely submerged stumps and what have you. I camped on and visited the lake for several years before I knew it was a manmade lake that submerged a town Even then I could tell something was strange because of the stumps, fluctuating water levels, a couple of roads that just seemed to run right into the lake, and so on.

It's messed up how growth and expansion are more important than peoples homes. The Ying and Yang of American ideals. "Whats yours is yours, until someone with enough clout wants it."
