Well i dont know about north india but as a Maratha of maharashtra we had warriors in all the casts ..Shivaji maharaj was the first king ever who gave watandari to maharas and other so called backward casts..the navy of maratha empire was managed by muslims who had more knowledge of the high seas..the gaurdians of shivaji maharajs forts were mostly of ramoshi n parwari caste again a backward caste...so before making sweeping statements learn a bit about actual history n not about the propoganda which suits your political ideology.
