“knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. (Romans 6:6)" Why does he call it "our" if it never was us, for we are new creations and have been ever since we were born, ever since we’ve been alive? Because it is what we personally have memories of to make us hate separation from God (i.e. sin) the most. Which is what memories of the old self and his ways, behaviors, thoughts, and actions make us do. They make us personally hate separation from God more than any other thing does. Same reason he says “your” in col. 3:3, not that it belongs to us, but that it is the one that is concerning/ has to do with us, because we have some memories of it, but just enough to serve us- namely to make us despise separation from God and everything about that “Your old self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God.(erv)”
We do cease to be the human we were before
We do cease to be the old human

I think he missed it on this one.
This was not as helpful as Piper usually is.
