Electric Earth: The Art of Doug Aitken | Artbound | Season 9, Episode 3 | KCET

This episode profiles prominent artist Doug Aitken who for more than 20 years has shifted the perception and location of images and narratives. His multichannel video installations, sculptures, photographs, publications, happenings and architectural works demonstrate the nature and structure of our ever-mobile, ever-changing, image-based contemporary condition. In his newest piece, “Underwater Pavilions,” he creates a conversation with the viewer to become fully present and immersed in the sea. The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA housed the exhibit “Doug Aitken: Electric Earth” in 2016 that ran through 2017.

"Disruption" is really not going to work for anyone who has a long-term familiar association to it. E.g. for me, disruption is just very similar to physical pain and enduring pain, so it just elicits irritation. The meaning I found and connection to the art didn't come from superficial shocks to the system, and I doubt I'm the only one who found that, either.
The artist is showing something far more important than chaos for chaos' sake.
Considering youtube is around exposing people to random, unconnected and disruptive images courtesy of terrible film-making and shallow creative ability (e.g. crude humour or horror shows that tries to shock people) - although this counts for tv shows today too - there's not really much point in gifted artists trying to do it. Defeats the point, really.
