    I cannot believe you have that Lahavas record!!!!!! She is one of my favourite living vocalists period. I have seen her twice and during covid me and the wife grabbed a bottle of wine and did our bit supporting live streamed covid gigs. Blood is a family favourite and I have a signed copy of her most recent self titled. Supremely jealous but glad you copped it!!

    Some great finds and shops John. Nothing better than slipping away and doing some digging while on vacation. Love it. Cheers.

    John, hats off to your digging skills. I go to 33 revolutions a couple a times a month and have never come across the Lianne La Havas record. Well done!

      Hi Terry. I think it’s a cracking record store. What kind of stuff do you find there? Is there anywhere else worth checking out to look for records?

      @@6inchpianist John, there is a new record store/bar that has a good selection, it is called Lambada Records Bar. It is close(ish) to the first store you went to. At 33 records I find a lot of different stuff. This week I picked up some Cds and records. They include: Maps - Vicissitude; Quincy Jones - Back on the block(not aged very well); a couple of Aphex twin albums; Tricky - Juxtaposed; Joe Jackson - Night and Day. Then some guilty pleasures from my youth with some early Genesis albums. I also found Philip Glass doing David Bowie: Troublemakers , Future Sound of London and Peace Orchestra. There was also a United Future organisations (You should have a listen to them) which I already own, but was a surprise to wash up in Las Palmas.

    I would have snagged the Azymuth Light As a Feather. Great video - really sums up what I love about record shopping.

      Hey. How’s it going? I have the Azymuth otherwise I’d have snagged it. You can’t beat looking for records when on your travels, whether in the U.K. or abroad. Always a thrill to find something a bit different. Cheers!

    Some interesting ones in there... even some of the dodgier looking fania all-star albums are great. I've never had much luck with finding latin records in Madrid, but Gran Canaria looks well stocked! All the best, Laurence

    • @6inchpianist
      @6inchpianist  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Laurence. Yeah, there were loads of Latin records that I just didn’t have a clue about. Plenty with particularly dodgy sleeves, as you say, but I’m sure there would have been some good stuff in there. I only picked up a few Latin records while I was there due to being totally clueless 😀. Cheers

    Good evening John. Was that background music that you added or did Regreso Al Pasado have a killer system inside? Compra Venta looked like a nice shop. Wow. I did not know that the Fania All Stars released that many records. So the Masap place was an antique shop of sorts? You tuned me into many new artists that I was unfamiliar with John. Smashing update~

      Hi Rob. I hope all is good with you. I’ve certainly learned that the Fania All Stars released more records than I’d ever imagined. And I’m sure they’re all worth hearing. An incredible group of musicians. Cheers!

    Hi John. Nice coincidence I just recorded a video with an album from the Stang records label, also found out it was run by Sylvia Robinson :) Cheers /Paul

      Hi Paul. Sylvia Robinson had a fascinating career. We know her for Sugarhill but she had a whole music career beforehand. Gotta look out for more records on Stang. Cheers!

    I thrifted a copy of that African Museum one (need an upgrade though as it was a bit on the rough side), good comp with some tunes not easily found elsewhere as I recall. If you don't know Latin Soul Rock by the Fania All Stars by some chance, sort of a studio recreation of the historic concert at Yankee Stadium that turned into a mini riot and had to be cancelled, or so I think the story went. Might be the only Fania LP I have, found that in Seattle many years ago. Never see them around here except for more recent reissues. Lovely record shops, cheers!

    • @6inchpianist
      @6inchpianist  5 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers Doug! I thought of you when I saw the African Museum album. I was looking for Latin records so didn’t pick it up. A mistake, with hindsight.
      I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on Fania. Those records are certainly getting more expensive, and harder to find, over here. Lovely to see those albums when I was on vacation though. It’s just fun to see, and learn about, something new. Cheers!

    I liked the portrait paintings in the antique shop. They reminded me of the kind of paintings serial killers paint.
    How much excess do you need to pay on your baggage on the the way back from your holidays? Do you ditch your dirty grundies at the hotel to make room for the records?

    • @6inchpianist
      @6inchpianist  5 месяцев назад

      Nah, the dirty undies made it back. I just wrap them around the records for protection. Warning: Never, ever sniff the records I send you.

    That last shop was certainly the place if you’re into Fania All Stars! I love that Incredible Bongo Band album, in fact I’ve not played it for a bit so that’s going on the pile for this week ! Great footage at the end - don’t blame you for grabbing a bit of sun John ! 👍👍

    Hi John, that's quite a version of Apache. The final shop seemed delightfully random. I've got a revisiting instalment coming up on Pills'n'Thrills. Just out of interest what is the change of adverts on the cover that identifies it as a later pressing? Nice to see young William having fun at the seashore.

    • @6inchpianist
      @6inchpianist  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi James. The original release of Pills, Thrills & Bellyaches has images of real American sweet wrappers. They had to change the sleeve to a more generic image for copyright reasons. It’s a great album. I hadn’t heard it in years. It’s dated pretty well. Looking forward to your video on it 👍

    Interesting set of shops and finds John and plenty there I am clueless on as normal (I do have that budget Shades of Deep Purple though). I followed your tip on Devon but might not be able to do it for Gran Canaria I suspect (who knows)...
