I am also planning to take my first lesson soon, so I am watching as many videos like this as possible. Would be great to know your experience. Tks in advance! Flukes, awesome video, very clear explanations. Congrats!
Hey Felippi, Cool that you're planning on getting some lessons! It can be an awesome experience! So, there were quite a few things I learned from the YT videos that made me feel more 'prepared' for my actual lessons. Rigging the lines to the kite, inflating the kite were some of the basic things I had learned about thru the videos. One of the things that was a great help from Flukes videos was a video I watched about handling a kite that is going into a "back stall" which can happen in light winds sometimes. I experienced it a couple of times my first session of kite flying, and knew to let the bar out to allow the kite to power up again. I also watched every video I could find on water starting. Understanding the concept of staying in a 'crunch' or 'tucked' position during the initial pull stage of the kite during the water start was helpful. Extending the front leg a bit in the downwind direction when getting up was REAL Important! So, here are a couple of things I feel were a big part of my success in riding at the 6 hour mark of my lessons: Choosing the right location and instruction environment. I have a work associate who started lessons months before me. He had a couple of lessons in Aruba, then Cabarete in the Dominican Republic and one more in Maui (we work for an airline and have travel benefits). His lessons were in open ocean locations with only one-way helmet walkie communication from an instructor on the beach. He's barely been able to get up and has only ridden a few meters at a time. He's spent a great deal of his time just managing to keep the kite in the air while swimming and dragging around. After learning about his experiences, I chose a flat water location on a lagoon where the water was never more than chest high. My instructors used jetskis to stay with me during the open water lessons. They assisted me with board retrieval when I was doing my first waterstarts. This can be a huge help and keeps you from spending your valuable lesson time on things like dragging around for your board repeatedly. Also, being in water where you can stand is a huge benefit when learning. Relaunching a kite while you're swimming is something you'll need to master eventually, but getting some experience doing it under manageable conditions was great for me. Let me know if you'd like me to send you a video I put together of my lessons. Best of luck with your lessons! Go for it!!!! Barry p.s where are you located?

Thanks for the privilege of being able to watch this video. So well explained. This will be prove invaluable for my forthcoming lesson. I wish I could buy you a beer 🍺
I'm eager to get into the water one day, but I don't live close to ideal water/wind areas. However, I have gone through two sizes of trainer/power kites 1.2m and 4m. You really learn to respect the wind, and master self-launching. Also, the line management is a real skill that you learn the hard way. I went from almost 45 minutes(2hr once...getting tangled) to about 15 minutes(both set-up and rewinding). I fly a 4 liner(with handles), but one thing I've learned in really gusty conditions is that merely depowering isn't enough, because it is very unstable and likes to skip around or collapse. Holding that ideal 3 or 9 o'clock position takes a lot of counter-steering when the wind is gusting. In the meantime, it's fun trying to do jumps and I might even get a landboard.
I just went for my first kitesurfing lesson and this video helped me a lot with finding wind directions and names of the equipment. The hard part was actually using the kite and even harder part was using the kite in the water.
Stoked to hear you're getting into kiting! Glad this video helped with the basics, and ya the hardest part is definitely flying the kite, but you will develop muscle memory and eventually flying the kite will become 2nd nature :) Kite flying is always the main focus :) haha remember that when the board gets introduced & especially when you start with your water starts & riding- focus on flying the kite.
