your site is excellent ! If you don't already do so, use de mineralised water only when dealing with miltoniopsis. Not the filtered water, it is not fully purified. I'm probably jumping the gun here, because you do have great knowledge of orchids.

Hi Danny. Gosh what beautiful blooms. Nice they’re doing terrific in semi hy, you’re doing a great job. Thank you for your thoughts on approach and direction. Hope that as you’re waiting for the ads to kick back in you’ll get much support or donations to “show you the love” of your enthusiasm and showmanship in this place. But as you’ve said -not another word.

Hi Danny. Thanks for this video. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and we get hot humid weather as well. I have potted most of my Miltoniopsis in semi hydroponics as well with lots of success. Like you I have killed a few along the way. I have potted a couple of mine in spagnum moss as well and they are loving it 😀 especially the Banana Fandango ‘Faded Memories’ which has given me 3 flowers this summer. I hope you have lots of success with yours. Cheers Ingrid

Loved this! I've been going a bit mental waiting for my miltoniopsis and oncidium to adapt to semi-hydro and it's reassuring to see that it's just going to be a slow process and I need more patience. Thanks!

Hi Daniele, like for many people, you are also for me a good angle, who help to enter the art of holding orchids. I got to 20 Orchids now, but if I don't hold back, the number will grow too fast. (I also had earlier marine aquariums, main tank with 1200L). I would like to add me to the list of people who would very much like to see a video of how you resolve the watering in semi-hydro. Thank you and good luck!

I'm so glad to see you're finally having more success with the Miltoniopsis hybrids again! Yay! I want to put mine in leca as well but unfortunately it's not sold in any garden centers here. I'd buy online but there are so many size varieties around. What size do you use, if you don't mind me asking?
Also would love to see an update on the Cymbidiums! Are they growing in semi-hydro as well? Would love to see how they're doing!

Wow, I'm so pleased to see these roots as no doubt you are too. Also it's encouraging to me to see that you too struggle at times with orchid success. As a new grower ( 3 months or so) who has only experienced the end of autumn and winter, at times I've got despondent about my orchids' inactivity. Seeing your video has really heartened me. Btw, the orchid bug has really hit me; it's true what they say that once you start collecting, you cannot stop. I've gone from zero to over sixty orchids since October! I'm going to look out for a Nelly Isler right now.

About keeping moisture by the roots of vandasious orchids, I find that keeping pieces of natural sponges works very
well. After being submerged they do not drip at all, and left with the amount of water they soak up during
Quick dip, here in Oregon, lnside my apartment with High temps about 75f and about 50% humidity they take 48 hours
    to dry.

Thanks for the video. I always learn something helpful from your videos. I would appreciate it if you do the video on watering semi-hydro. I have recently switched some cattleyas to clay pots with leca for the medium. They weren't doing well in small fir bark/charcoal/perlite and lost a lot of roots so I am trying something new. Would appreciate knowing how you care for yours.

Danny I purchased a miltoniopsis a few years ago. It was gorgeous at first. It did rebloom the second year for me but little by little the leaves would start to turn yellow at the tip and continue down the leaf pretty soon the whole leaf was yellow and droopy then turn brown. I lost about half the plant and the remaining pseudo bulbs stared to turn kinda like a rust color then eventually get mushy. I repotted it while it still had three remaining pseudo bulbs and it seemed to be doing so much better. It even started to get a new leaf. Then one day I noticed another pseudo bulb beginning to looks rusty. I unpotted it, cut the rusty bulb off, sprayed it with peroxide and dusted the cut with cinnamon and replanted it. It did well for a month then the same thing happened. I'm down to one pseudobulb and a plant that is only about six inches tall and about 3-4 inches wide. I check it every day, so far so good, everything is green. I keep it moist and shield it from bright light. My fingers are crossed. What causes the bulbs to change color? Help!!!

I hope your Miltoniopsis and their hybrids are going to be able to build up enough roots and constitution to be able to survive the next summer. Maybe even Sphagnum moss could be good for them?

All my oncidium alliance - including miltoniopsis - love semi hydro. Some of them have grown such huge pseudobulbs that I can't believe my eyes. And they stay plump in semi hydro

.....Also If you can answer and maybe do a video on the den parishii, can't find much info on care, potting and rest. Just purchased one and I haven't repotted it, the roots look good but are stuck to container and It's cane is green and plump and the leaves are not turning yellow or dying do I give it a rest?

Actually, your Nelly Isler doesnt look too bad! I hope you'll be able to grow her successfully. Im considering trying semi-hydro with a Zygo or Nelly Isler myself. I prefer the Zygo, but Nelly Islers will be cheaper, so I'll likely wait until its Nelly Isler season, and then I'll buy one and try it.

Hey Danny, recently my place temp down to 10 degree c,at night,my some phal encounter the cold, and now I am noticing some pitting on underside of leaves,it's look like that leaves have sucked oil,but I don't use oil on that phals, some leaves got patches because of this ,and become translucent,is it cold damage?what I do?

  • @Fabdanc
    @Fabdanc 6 лет назад

I just moved to a new climate in a place with huge windows, south eastern exposure, and a lot of light... I thought I put my phals in a place that got bright morning sun. The first day, I checked every hour or so for leaf scorching. I didn't see any so I thought I was good... But after a few days, I checked again and scorched some leaves. I'm on the hunt for areas that get more indirect light... Do you think my phals adapted too much to the ultra low light / artificial light of my last place and I thrust them too quickly into stronger natural light? They only get about an hour of bright morning sun in their new locations, but I'm still concerned. Any Texas orchid growers on here that can help?

Hi Danny, I currently have a Miltoniopsis that is giving me some worry. It bloomed once and I repotted after (this was last year), but it seems to have stopped growing or producing any new growths. The pot is a bit bigger than its last pot. Orchid is still green and leaves have a nice texture to it. A pbulb dried because I didnt water for a while 😬 but the rest seem good after I resumed the usual watering schedule for milts. It's been over 4 months and nothing new has happened with this orchid. Any advice? More patience, maybe?
