An old cell phone would be a good use for the camera part. I've got several old phones I've kept figuring they'd come in handy for something one day :)
@@Christy.1 very true. In 2012, digital cameras were very common. Since then we have a newer version of this video using cell phones or gopro : ruclips.net/video/PnJm90LclYs/видео.html Thank you for taking the time to chime in.
Great idea about the phone camera! I will try it tomorrow. I have rigged up an air hose through a 3/4" PVC pipe to a "T", capped on one end and a 1/8" hole on the other end. I connect to my compressor and it blows the stuff out. I do need to put a ball valve at the handle to stop the air vs shutting down the compressor. Now I'll use the camera to see where I need to use the hose. One more step to make it easy and safe! Thanks so much!
Thank you for taking the time to share your setup and to contribute to the topic. FYI, we also have a newer video: ruclips.net/video/PnJm90LclYs/видео.html
Came to your channel to review your car idle video, and saw this video, which reminded me about my clogged gutter. 5 mins this morning with a paint roller and an extention pole, and my gutter is flowing nicely. Thanks Asian Fix It Dad!
Thanks for the idea! I made my own ABS pipe (with 2- 45 degree fittings) gutter cleaner--it worked great! Blob of stuff cleaned right out and I didn't have to try putting up a 15' ladder by myself.
well the camera on a pole was also great but I'll skip that part and use the hose in a pipe. I have a 1950's house so the gutters are very easy to clean using an 8 foot step ladder but there is one section where a step ladder won't fit (because of a raised brick fence). Was planning on installing gutter guards but honestly after your idea of a hose in a pipe, think I'll just clean them that way once a year. Again thank you very much, you just saved me a whole lot of money!!
Thank you very much for your video. It worked. Since I was banned from climbing onto the roof by my family, I had to opt to other ways from the ground. Luckily I got a used 16 ft long pole for $5 from a pawn shop and I used two paint paint roller frames;one for camera to video record the status of the gutter and the other one with a fork made from a hanger wire to push down the leaves which were clogging ( covering ) the entry for the downspout. I had to add and extension wood and taped it to the roller frame so the fork reaches to the entry of the spout. I worked well for my situation. Thanks again.
Good ideas. I used my gopro on an extended pole to safely check out the clog. Hurricane is headed our way and I noticed gutters overflowing yesterday. Thanks for the video.
This little baby packs a punch for the price (just over 30 bucks). I'm comparing it to an old Craftsman blower that recently died after about 15 years. So far I've used it four times ruclips.net/user/postUgkx9IdbewMd3eOaX3SS_kV4wC73v6yWG2KY and it's done an excellent job. It's light, and it moves leaves and debris very well. It's a little shorter than the craftsman, but it's fairly easy to manage. I don't ever use the front grip (requiring both hands). If I did, it would increase the distance between the blower and the debris, or it would require me to bend over awkwardly. I'm 6' 3", so I just hold it (since it's light enough) with one hand down at my side and it's a perfect fit. It's also back-heavy, making it easy to maneuver up/down/left/right motions of the blower end. As a final perk, I can actually appreciate the safety cord lock feature, since my other blower's lack of a decent one caused my power cord connector to start falling apart, due to all of the pulling, etc. If you're not ready to spend 200 - 400 on a gas leaf blower, and you don't mind messing with a cord 2 to 4 times a month, then this thing is for you.
man, you ARE a genius ! I am thinking of cleaning my gutter (2 storey building) - but have no idea how to get up there... (and i am mildly afraid of height)... that's a great tool !

I love your careful, meticulous style of teaching, definitely subscribing, and I love that you do your work in such a neat , patient way, and handsome clothes! My little one floor house is very accessible but gutters still a pain, so I will def do the pvc routine.
This was VERY helpful! I never would have thought of using a camera to see what was up there! You are a genius! I am going to try these tips next time the gutter gets clogged! Thank you!
some good tips here. I bought the gutter covers to prevent this type of problem. Every company that sells them out there says their's are the best. While they definitely help, they allow material like leaves, buds and keys to collect on them and slowly grind down so they fall in the tiny holes and build up a sludge in the trough. They say the wind blows them off but with seven years of having them, not all blow off and the sludge builds up over time. In my case, I've had to clean the troughs by using a pole with a pinched tip attached to the hose 3 times in that period. It blasts some water through the covers and does get things moving but it is a messy, wet, dirty job and I'm still going up on the ladder to check. I'll try your camera idea and hopefully will be able to see through the cover holes without having to climb up. I'm thinking I'll have to pick a bright sunny day to get the light shining through the covers to be able to see. Thanks for these tips.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your info is very useful for people who installed gutter covers. How strong is your pole? We found that the backwards reaction force from water jet is very strong.

Use a ladder stabilizer to get safer on a roof. Managed to in Winter time to put heat cables on our roof and also used a ladder clamp to hook onto the gutter and even put a heavy block behind the ladder so could reach further to put wires on the ROOF. Felt very safe and secure then! But this is in general a helpful Idea too! And while putting up the cables also was able with a scoop to clean a messy gutter that even had a gutter cover on it which was removed to do the cleaning.
That two inch abs pipe with the elbow is a fantastic idea. Thanks so much for your video . Great idea re the camera. I have a boat and will do this when working on my motor.

yes, let us know how it goes. Just be aware that the backwards reaction force from water jet could be very strong. Also the higher the elevation, the lower water pressure is provided.
Nice job! Me personally I just throw away the dirty gutter and at Home Depot tell the the guy in apron to put a clean one up. Very easy, and I didn't have to pay my water bill.

Thanks for the video bro, but by the time you are done messing with your inventions I would have climbed that roof and cleaned the gutters all around that house, including the downspouts. When the roofs are pitched to much and have wooden shingles which get slippery when wet, in this case I work off of the ladder and don't climb the roof. Otherwise I quickly remove the trash and dirt with a small garden scoop or a flat scraper or spatula (depending on the shape of the gutter, some have the bottom rounded) and what's left I rinse with the garden hose or my pressure washer wand at low pressure while standing on the roof (I have never fallen off of a roof in the 8 years I've been doing this). I don't use those long wands with the hooked nozzle any more, all the crap falls on me from the gutters and the gutters don't come out very clean. I have also seen the edges of the roofs with damage caused by those wands and I don't want to get blamed for it, so I just cleaned them manually and then just rinse. If the bottom of the downspouts go into the ground with one of those large plastic pipes, I disconnect them near the ground so that the underground pipes don't get clogged up because they usually don't drain anywhere other than end in the ground under the grass or an underground gravel pit. I do charge extra when I have to go up to 2nd, 3rd and 4th stories high, I won't go any higher than that. NOTE: I do tie myself sometimes to my safety harness when going at or over 2 stories, I always give the rope or cable (I have both to use) only 6 inches to fall (6 in. slack), as I move I have to adjust it at my harness every so many feet, but it goes fairly quickly when I have to tie myself, it does slow me down a little comparing to using nothing on one story high but I sometimes have to do it to make sure I finish the job alive. By the way, I weigh 105 pounds and I can climb like a monkey, no big deal.
I called a company buy they would not come out because of asbestos. I have now bought a ladder and sealant. I can manage getting up high before I feel that I might fall.
Lol, I do this all the time , i like the "genius" title , I use slightly different ingredients for my telescoping cell phone camera roof selfie video gig, I use any pvc pole or wood piece that exceeds 6 feet; attach a small cardboard box( from instant coffee product box that has open top) by tape , to the post im using. The cell phone sits in the box at the end of the telescoping post, which, like you, it is hung up over the edge of the roof with varying angle as you walk along your house. I use it on yearly gutters check, and roof inspection, like after a hurricane. Also, can attach non flying drone with wifi camera to pole also for live stream.
thank you for sharing your tip of a cardboard box. FYI, recently we have some significant improvement on the cleaning part of this topic: ruclips.net/video/AM6lpjKFtrw/видео.html also in terms of camera in gutter cleaning, we have a newer video: ruclips.net/video/PnJm90LclYs/видео.html In general, attaching cell phones to anything: ruclips.net/video/5o-ea5vdaa8/видео.html
Great video avoiding pain & suffering could probably even use the lady filming you to pull you up on a rope & pulley system on your next video. Good work like the innovations.👍
I have a gutter which has many trees above it and the down pipe always get clogged. I've drilled and inserted a hose attachment so when the gutter is clogged. I attached my hose, turn the water on and it blasts the blockage and clears my gutters. I'm looking at a way to attach the hose in a permanent way so it looks like. So all I need do is turn on the tap from time to time. Maybe a second skin to the down pipe to hide the hose will work? I've tried gutter guard screens but the leaves just lay over the guard and the water ends up just running straight off the roof.
Get a Gutter Clutter Buster instead. You don't need a ladder and you can clean gutters on two story homes easily from the ground using your wet/dry vacuum. its the perfect tool for the job.
Hi....I'm looking to install a gutter guard on my grandparents house but need one with minimal maintenance, for obvious reasons. I've seen ur video which is very helpful. I did, however, hear of, I think they are called Rhino Gutter Guard, if I spelled that correctly, but not sure how good they really are. Have u come across this type of gutter guard and If so, what do u think of it? I'm seeking all the info I can possibly get to be able to make an informed decision. Ur help will be greatly appreciated.
Guards can reduce cleaning, however be aware that seeds, fir needles, and other small debris can clog the holes in the guards. You can't hose or brush them off. You need clean them otherwise the water simply shoots over the top.
If you have unlimited budget, there's Gutter Glove that's cool. If you're a poor miser like me, I bought a plastic screen from Amerimax (#85198), 5$ per roll, which so far does the job in stopping big leaves from clogging the gutters. It won't stop the shingle grit though. Still sucked to install it high up on the ladder. I HATED it. The big test will come this fall and winter with more leaves and whether it will support the snow.
today's kids would never think about this (I asked my kids once, you may ask yours if you don't believe me). So it is not the question of saving money, the kids should not only know how to press & press their smartphone, but also use it smartly.
Glad you can appreciate this. It is also important to let your kids to watch you while you are doing it, so that they may become a little smarter gradually.

By the way, I weigh 105 pounds and I can climb like a monkey, no big deal.
+Pressure Washing if you climb, then it increases the probability of injury and you have to add the time of visiting a doctor.
I called a company buy they would not come out because of asbestos. I have now bought a ladder and sealant. I can manage getting up high before I feel that I might fall.
Don't climb ladders if you can avoid it, it is not worth it.
very good idea and very practical . Thank you very much for sharing

FYI, recently we have some significant improvement on the cleaning part of this topic: ruclips.net/video/AM6lpjKFtrw/видео.html
also in terms of camera in gutter cleaning, we have a newer video: ruclips.net/video/PnJm90LclYs/видео.html
In general, attaching cell phones to anything: ruclips.net/video/5o-ea5vdaa8/видео.html

Great tips thank you for sharing them
Thank you for your feedback.
***** let us know if it gets clog very easily and water over shoots your gutters.

+Salvador Perez thank you for leaving comments.
Get a shop vac, 6 feet of straight extension, and a gutter attachment (basically an upside down U or V type attachment). Job done. No ladder.
Thank you for taking the time to share your tips. Note that we also have an updated version of this topic: ruclips.net/video/PnJm90LclYs/видео.html
today's kids would never think about this (I asked my kids once, you may ask yours if you don't believe me). So it is not the question of saving money, the kids should not only know how to press & press their smartphone, but also use it smartly.
wow excellent solution, very clever... thank you.
