We get absolutely ROCKED out there 😳 We just arrived back to French Polynesia, and we were ready to make some moves to a more protected anchorage...but the forecast was not in favor. And after days of waiting around, we decided to brave the ROUGH conditions and trade one day of suffering in exchange for a peaceful anchorage and a good night's sleep. We bashed straight into massive waves, strong headwinds, and current for hours...and all three of us were on the struggle bus. It was every bit as gnarly as we had expected, and was definitely one of our more miserable sails we've had in recent memory. But once we made it to our spiffy new backyard it was totally worth it! And that's when things start to get realllllllly interesting...I really can't even describe to you our DIY dental saga...this one you're just going to have to see for yourselves!

For tooth repair i use something called ' Temparin Max repair kit' made by Dentek.
it comes in an airtight container and stays usable for years. It's good for a temporary fix till you get to shore. It's also resealable for multiple fixes.
thanks as always for the videos! so 2 years in aus on the hard will you survive the insanity lol. will delos and brupeg meet? kaza focus on the positive acknowledge the negative and dismiss it thats the best i have from an outsiders perspective. again thanks for the videos teeth ya have spares but im guessing its 2 part epoxy want to be picky medical grade but i suspect good old cyano acrylite "krazy glue" will also do the trick and that was developed for battlefield wound closure it is safe for internal use.

Can I just take a second to say thank you for these videos. I appreciated the explanations from Brian in this one. I’ve been down the rabbit whole learning more boat stuff to decide which hypothetical sailboat I would want one day if I ever take this dream to reality. And I’ve bounced through some channels. And coming back to
Yours. Which really got me started with reigniting this dream years ago (it was always my dad’s dream to sail around the world but he never got the chance. We used to sail a little Pearson 26 around when I was a kid) is just such a breath of fresh air. Some of these popular sailing channels are just so hard to watch. It’s more about them being RUclipsrs than sailing. Long winded but basically thanks for being authentic. Always giving the right vibes.
Same here but we will "regret 20 years from now " I sail 12 years and miss it so much, but being older than dirt my time is running out.. Our mind say yes our body says WTF are doing man.. "Die with memories not dreams".. Dauntless

Hi Brian and Kazza. As someone who lost a crown whilst on holiday, I improvised with some 'Super-Glue'. It worked so well, I didn't bother to visit my Dentist upon my return. That was ten years ago; longer than the original cement lasted. I've even used Superglue to close a nasty gash on a friends arm, because we were too far from a Hospital and didn't have a Needle and Thread, to stitch the wound. That also worked a treat and he still has the scar, which is minimal. For future reference, you can get special Medical Grade Superglue, which they regularly use in Hospitals.
Very good advice. Super useful in any medical kit anywhere.
Good idea.. that is exactly what it was invented for during the vietnam war era.. glue a wound shut, bandage it and off to higher level of care. make sure its medical grade cyano-acrylate.

yeah, i lost a crown on the PCT, i glued it back on in the next town but it fell off in a couple of weeks... the trick is to get all the old glue off, i did that, glued it back on again and its been trouble free for the last 8 or 9 years
You two plus the baby will all find a catamaran so much more comfortable . It will take some getting used to but in the end you will learn to sail that boat very well. . Sorry your tooth got broke
The opening you had about 3-5 years ago had two most memorable aspects: 1) One Tox, and 2) A shot of Kazza as she passed the camera onto the top deck and captured her most awesome crystal _blue_ eyes! We got half of that back with this opening!

The Delos School of Dentistry. My goodness, what an adventure. Rough seas to repairing a crown that had fallen off. Thank goodness there was no need for the bucket of poop probe! Yuk! I 'd rather be sea sick than to suffer through that task.
Thoughts of this brings back memories of the videos of Brian having to repair the macerator on the head. Though, I must admit, I laughed so hard, I was crying at Brian's reaction to the God awful task. Please forgive me!
Job well done! Kazza now has all of her teeth back in place and an anchorage without the rolls! And the Nugs just rolls on like nothing was going on. She's a Gem.

I did a temporary filling for my husband at anchor somewhere on the Queensland coast. And, I am the one with dental phobia...it did the job. Good to see you managed to do it too. The joys of cruising for sure!

Nick from Sailing Ruby Rose is a dentist as well. He did a lot of volunteer dentistry work in Vietnam while their new boat was being built. He would be a good resource as well.

For Delos and other sailors, there is the "emergency" option of using a small amount of sugar-free gum inside the prosthetic crown. Only for full crowns. This will prevent neighboring teeth from moving closer together, preventing correct future cementation.

I know exactly what you went through with those waves and getting sick. We took over a 100 ft yacht called the Ono Ono from Bora Bora to papeete (not sure i spelled that right). Everyone on the yacht was so sick! They had employees passing out puke bags. I could barely walk when we docked!! The captain said he almost turned back. The front of the yacht would slam down over the waves. It was absolutely horrible!! Sierra is absolutely adorable. Such a sweet girl. You are both great parents!! When things happen with teeth it's the worst!!!
When we went around that corner the bashing made our windlass realse and we dropped all 80M of 12mm chain in the sea. luckily the bitter end held but it was epic trying to get all the chain and anchor in in the wild sea state. We didn't forget to secure our anchor again after that :)

Woo Hoo! That never gets old. My dentist sent me home with some tooth glue just in case of such a situation. I've never had to use it though.

Pretty crazy. I just broke a tooth a few days ago and while I was at the dentist I thought to myself, "I wonder what the Delos crew would do in a dental emergency?" Now I know.
Incidentally, I once got a filling replaced in Mexico. That filling only lasted about a year.
Good fix. And you didn’t even know you had duel purpose engine room picks. Priceless ❤
Congratulations on your decision to build in Brisbane. I am from the US but I have spent a total of about three years in and around Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You’re going to fall in love with that area as well as the people. I look forward to following this build. One thing I hope you have been made aware of is the river flooding. I hope you are on high ground where you’re going to build. I have seen it get as bad as you could ever imagine. Good luck.

I feel your pain, I broke a tooth in half not long ago on a pebble in my rice, so not all that different.
It took a couple days to get to a dentist and the whole experience is annoying…
And Brian, good on you for diy dentistry but bad on you for not having dental picks, they’re invaluable tools for all sorts of mechanical adventures. I’ve got a good half dozen in my toolbox.
Pick up a set and you’ll thank me over and over, even without dental emergencies.

Finally, so happy to see u guys getting a bigger boat! Been wondering after all Brian’s fixing the boat and the rocking in hectic anchorages. Cats are the best we a have a power cat but no doubt power or sailing definitely a better ride. Cant beat a cat. We cat around Islamorada u be catting around the world. Happy sailing!
Wonderful episode! As a dentist, you handled the situation as best you could have given the circumstances. Getting the crown on and seated properly was excellent. Leaving it off leads to adjacent tooth movement over time and the crown would then not fit. I would recommend you have the crown removed and have permanent cement placed once you return to Papeete, as temporary cement is just that, temporary. I am off to visit Tahiti the first two weeks of May, so I can see first hand, how beautiful it is!! Keep up the good work!!!

Even before the tooth incedent I though "what about teeth?" The community came to the rescue and delt with it. Nice video and how we are like a family.
I really enjoyed your video, I never thought through the possibility of needing to do tooth repairs, am adding that to my first aid kit on the boat-- not a lot of dentists around the Kimberlies. Re my previous comments on daggerboards on your cat-- that beat into 24 knots would be soooo much better with daggerboards than just mini keels. A good sailing cat (there are not many of those around admittedly) with daggerboards will sail at the same angle, if not higher and potentially faster than your current Delos. We sailed against a 1 year old 46' dufor mono hard on the wind in our 35' cat-- we sailed the same angle and were faster (in 18 knots true)...Phil
I had a cap come off months ago. Just had it glued back on a few weeks ago. No big deal waiting until I had time to get to the dentist.

From when I was four to seven my family lived aboard a catamaran called Desert Mariner (based out of New Mexico).
We were anchored in Hope Town, Bahamas with a lively liveaboard community. Each morning there was a VHF radio channel with news and boats calling in to announce their arrival, departure, etc. I was five or six and lost one of my first baby teeth. I was worried that the tooth fairy wouldn't get to me and I wouldn't get any money. My parents encouraged me to call into this channel with the proper call with a lisp. "Tooth fairy, tooth fairy, tooth fairy. This is the Desert Mariner, Desert Mariner, Desert Mariner. I want to let you know I lost my tooth and will put it under my pillow tonight. Over."
That day there were so many dinghies handing my parents their loose change and saying it was the funniest thing they had ever heard. I got a really nice reward for my tooth that time.

Yep sea sick is just about as bad as you can feel, I was in the Navy and when on a small ship I literally had a bucket on a piece of line around my neck, I always wonder why it is that other people find it is so funny for someone else to be sea sick when it is the most miserable I could feel.

I’m so happy to see that “Sierra & her Bike” made the cut & I still get to see it every week! I’m also glad to hear the One Tox music too. I’ve heard of using “Super Glue” in a emergency, however they would probably have to remake the cap if they couldn’t get all the glue off, so that was the smart thing to do. For some reason a aluminum Boat Build just seems more “real” or maybe more of a upgrade than any of these other ones that sort of all seem the same. I did like the Rapido however…. Have you seen the Aluminum Catamaran of Plucky’s? It’s coming together fast!
