Why did the first story says that the couple was already married in a civil and registered ceremony, but they're not married and breaking up? Yes, they are married legally, so they'd have to get divorced, not just break up. Civil ceremonies is for the legality of a marriage, whereas, the 'wedding ceremony' is more on the religious side. Something is wrong in the first story.
In the USA a marriage certificate has to be filed after the civil ceremony and some couples only file it after the fancy wedding hence if certificate not filed they not married.
