They are all members of small tribes (Chulym, Ket, Selkup, Tuvan, etc.) There are just over 200 native speakers of the Chulym language left in the world. Like other tribes in the region, they were decimated by centuries of invasion and war, and more recently by the rampant environmental destruction starting in the Soviet era. They play authentic traditional instruments, made by the band-members and their families. The artists also sew their own costumes. These are based on traditional indigenous outfits, but incorporate attributes of several Siberian tribes at once. They want to be ambassadors for all of the indigenous people of the region. Their instruments include: ikili (a two-stringed bowed instrument used in Siberia, similar to the Mongolian morin khuur); khomys (jew’s harp); rattles similar to maracas and tambourines; a local variant of the mandolin; and several kinds of drums, as well as modern electric bass guitar and electronic keyboard/synthesizer. They occasionally play a saxophone they found abandoned in the forest near one of their villages. The best description of their ikili is “You look like someone who no one should mess with when you have an instrument that’s made out of a freakin’ BEAST!” Otyken incorporate throat singing and chanting into their vocals, as well as imitating wild animal sounds and bird calls. When they were founded, they started off doing straight-up folk music. When they began to add a fusion of folk with modern rock sounds, they found themselves attracting fans from all over the world. They are fully aware that their language is dying. Part of their purpose in performing and recording their music is to leave behind a record of their culture before they disappear. To date, they have released tracks mainly in Chulym, but also in Khakass, and one song in Russian, addressed to the people who took their land. As they say in “Paradise Lost”: “The land is yours now, but the sky is ours.”

stop lying! The Russian state has never taken away lands from small nations. National traditions, crafts and economy have always been preserved. always coexisted together, helping each other. There are a lot of public associations and educational centers for small peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, and they are provided with state support and benefits. How these small nations lived on their lands is how they live. so stop making things up and playing the victi.

Всегда найдется провокатор который в искусство обязательно засунет политику.
Well that was wild! It's like if The Hu became hippy trance rap wizards lol.
Круто!
Mejor reacción para esta canción en internet 😘
Khan Blues is amazing!
Красноярск на связи)) остров одыха)
Люблю Сибирь!) са из России, куда вы от нас денетесь))
Late to the party but I found your channel watching Hanabie reactions, and now I've come across you doing another one of my favorite bands!
I'm sure these have already been suggested somewhere, but for Okyten, check out Storm first, then maybe Legend and My Wing, though I've never heard a bad one yet.
I love how the guy comes in with the throat singing
check out their song "Pulse", but live, you have it on their channel
Definitely check out "Altay", which is a collab between Otyken & Ummet Ozcan, a Dutch/Turkish singer, producer, and DJ.
Me encanta Otyken ❤
Muy bueno tu vídeo!!!
So many cool OTYKEN songs - Phenomenon and Altay are awesome.
The lead singer Azyan is really beautiful. The other female members are also.
Your intro music is awesome
this is what a war chant would be like.
You'll miss a lot not checking their Phenomenon, Altay, Genesis, Storm, ...
Look up the LIVE version of PULSE, prob my favorite
I feel terrible John.😢☹️
I just assumed you were a BTS channel with a splash of Metal and I never went back over your catalogue. I arrived 8 months ago with Dimash and never thought to make any other suggestions.🙄😔
I prefer Otyken's older stuff like "Genesis", "Storm" and "Legend but all their music is good.
Azyan is the lead female vocalist that you like.😏
Other similar but unique bands are
The Hu Band (Mongolian Folk Metal) Try "Wolf Totem"
Volfgang Twins (Viking Metal)
Try "Jormungandr" or "Frost"
Feurschwanz "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (Abba Cover) Folk Metal... Fun and amazing.🤭
Also if having a bad day and you need a smile try the incredible NanowaR of Steel (Italian Comedy Metal Band) Excellent instrumentation plus intellectual (and Not) humour.
Try "Valhalelluja", Norwegian Reggaeton", Pasedena 1994, or Uranus. No swearing or coarseness. Always includes an amazing guitar solo.😂
Guarenteed to lower stress levels with laughter. Even if you miss most of the jokes, the music is amazing.😂🤘🔥🤘
Try listening to another Otyken's song, Altay. Your head will surely bang along with their music ;)
Love the energy. Love Otyken.
hey John I have been a fan of Otuken for some time now and I would suggest you check out some of their other music videos as well take care
This is one of their earlier songs, about 2 years old, they are having so much fun with this video... ruclips.net/video/SU1apJTv94o/видео.html
There's a remix version with the rapper Xzibit

Ummet Ozcan x Otyken - Altay 👍🏼👍🏼
Love Otyken, also I've got a thing for Maya, one of the drummers, lol.
👍👍👍 !!! Hello from Russia !
React to Phenomenon from Otyken please 🙏 that gonna blow your mind 🤯
Not sure if you have reacted to the Hu? They are Mongolian throat singers blended with metal music. Definitely worth a listen. Cheers.
I haven’t yet but am 100% down to check them out!!
@@JohnReavesLive I loved this band. Such a different sound. Thanks for reacting to them and thanks airport guy. I think you'll love the Hu. As well as their solo music they did an amazing song 'Mother Nature ft LP' who is an American/Italian singer/songwriter who has a unique voice. It would be great if you could check it out. (I'm glad you got to go to Hongkong) :)
@@JohnReavesLive, good health! Have you listened to the joint work of "Otyken" called "Altay" with Ummet Ozkan yet? Throat singing is even more powerful there (Ummet generally brings its own unique flavor there) and soloist Azyan shows all the beauty and power of her voice there - the vibrations just punch to goosebumps, to tears! I've been listening to this band for years and, in my opinion, this is one of their best songs, if not the best.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Check out ummet ozcan x otyken altay, where ummet ozcan did a song with them, he does house and other music and throat sing
You said he was low. Have you listened to something from Geoff Castellucci? He can go L O W ... And I mean low low ...
Our Russian girls, the most Gorgeous girls in the world!!
