      I thought I heard some of Knopffler's Local Hero in there early on (from the flutes) and then I fancy some "latest trick" inspired sax playing later on (tenor sax 2). And then there were many other times where I was sure parts were familiar but couldn't quite draw them to mind. More classical motifs with lots of lovely expression. I want to say Prokofiev but I think I just can't get Peter and The Wolf out of my head with the nature of the instruments on display.
      You've made this sound better than any other demo of it (IMHO). I don't have any of the Infinite's yet but I'm hovering over the button for the 1.4 Brass update. Can I ask if you're using a breath controller for this? (Just listened to more of the video and you answered this question - and that makes this all thew more impressive).
      Thanks from a fellow Aussie and VI-er. Hope you're keeping well in this most strange of times.

    This was awesome. I just got the 2.0 version of this library and was finding it difficult to get all the instruments sounding towards their potential. Seeing your approach was incredibly helpful and your ideas are super inspiring. Finally found the right balance between the dynamic and vibrato controls watching what you were doing. So thanks for making these awesome videos it is really appreciated.

      Yeah everything I've played with so far sounds agile and excellent except the flutes. They're kind of underwhelming. If you turn the breath noise knob all the way down, the samples underneath them sound good, but you need breath noise. It's a flute!

      @@kurttomlinsoncompositions1067 I don't have very many libraries, but it works pretty well for me with the stuff I do have. I thought it being recorded dry would make it hard, but just pick a room and send a tiny bit of your main project's reverb to it and you're fine. The convolution reverb on this is incredible and I honestly hope he releases it as a standalone if possible. Haven't even had to really eq the instruments at all either whereas some of my other stuff sounds terrible without it.

    Mixed feelings about this one, what you gain in dynamics and repetition, you lose in overall thin or distant tone and fake sounding attacks. I think this library would sound good layered with other libraries, combining the strengths of both for more realism, but that doesn't help with solo lines.

    The only drawback I can see with these are having to setup multiple instances to have ensembles. Even with this setup, you will still have more control over each individual instrument . I'm very tempted to get both the woodwinds and brass regardless.

    • @CoryPelizzari

      When it comes to ensembles I highly recommend Westgate Woodwinds' ensemble flutes, oboes and bassoons which can be purchased for $40 each and are recorded dry with perfect legato. A good ensemble companion for Infinite Woodwinds because they're a2 ensembles. You can get them at Big Fish Audio.

    Well.. having just come from the Infinite Brass review, I must say this was a total let down. I am not sure if it is because this was apparently their first one, but the difference between this and the brass is the same as night and day. The tone of these is simply not up to scratch. Extremely synthy. I mean, with the flute, I simply don't know what I was listening to. The bass flute sounds like the love child of a duduk and a fat ocarina. Real pity; I thought at last I had found a great-sounding and playable orchestra. At this point, it will be interesting to wait and see what the strings will be like. But, if they want people to consider buying the whole bundle, the timbre of the woods needs some serious, serious work. At the moment, Audio Modeling woodwinds, though entirely synthetic, sound far closer to the real thing than these.

    Hi Cory. Firstly thanks so much for all of your replies and videos. I was wondering if you have ever used Audio modeling SWAM instruments, and perhaps if you might ever be able to do a comparison between Aaron Venture Infinite Woodwinds and SWAM woodwinds for instance? I realise that they are completely different technologies (sampling versus physical modelling) and ordinarily in wildly different price categories, however, in AUD with the edu discount they become "within the ballpark" of one another. With Aaron venture coming to about $400AUD after edu discount, and SWAM being around about $600AUD after edu discount.
    Although they are quite different products, I feel they target a similar user base as they are both good for low-ram, laptop-friendly workflows, and are both designed with play-ability and real time control in mind, rather than being focused on having separate switchable articulations.
    Just a thought. Thanks again for your excellent reviews - I pretty much depend on them above any other sample library review source now!

    Great videos Cory! I'm considering Infinite Woodwinds and Spitfire Studio WW (I watched your video on Spitfire's too). If you had to get just one, which would it be? I can afford Infinite, but I get a 40% edu discount on Spitfire which makes it mighty tempting.

  • @PUREATMOS
    @PUREATMOS 4 года назад

    Sounds amazing. One thing I have to point out - you keep using the modwheel to create a vibrato effect. Vibrato isn't achieved by varying the volume of a note, but the pitch. It's not convincing the way you're doing it, and would obviously be much better to use the actual vibrato tool in the library. Just a quick pointer, not trying to criticize! Great video, thanks!

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  4 года назад +4

      The library is scripted to allow very slight pitch vibrato when the modwheel is pushed quickly - also, pitch vibrato is used for strings, whereas volume vibrato is more common for woodwinds and brass, because you can't bend the note with your fingers. You have to vary the intensity with your breath, so it's not true vibrato.

      @@alainthiry3965 It's a fact. Neither you or I can change it. Some things just cost more than a lot of us can agree with but there's nothing I can do on this channel to change the pricing of libraries. I get very little money and there's a ton of libraries I want and still haven't been able to get a hold of after years, so I just roll with it and keep making videos. Prices for orchestral libraries have come down by over half since they were first a novelty in the early 2000's so more people can afford them now than they could before. Also remember, if large deep sampled libraries were forced to come down low enough in price for anyone to get them, many developers including independent ones would no longer be able to make a living through sample libraries. There's always two sides to any conflict.

    • @alainthiry3965
      @alainthiry3965 4 года назад

      @@CoryPelizzari it was not you, and i have to thank you for posting interesting videos...... but it seems you don't understand well, if precisely the library is at half of the price i think there will be much more than the double of buyers, so a contrario that you want us to believe, there wil be two happies categories: the users and the developpers... so this is you if you caution this saying nobody can change it you are not right, the buyers (or no-buyers) make that change possible...

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  4 года назад +1

      @@alainthiry3965 It's theoretically possible on paper but not congruent with reality - if it were, it would have happened already. It's false logic to believe that if you halve the price of libraries it will automatically attract more than double buyers and they will in fact purchase the libraries. It would cause a massive competition in the market that it couldn't handle and developers wouldn't be able to afford to make the libraries and market them anymore and the market would crash. Even if that were not true, you don't have the power to influence the opinion and actions of thousands of people as a collective - I can guarantee that if you tried as hard as you could to start a revolution where customers all band together to try to make this happen, it won't come to fruition. The developers also will push against this as they are trying to make a living, not be philanthropic at their own expense. We're dealing with humans and real world economies here and being idealistic unfortunately doesn't cause the desired result to happen. Life was never fair, but it can be beautiful if we find our own calling and purpose in it. It can be hell if we worry about what we don't have the power or the right to control.
