Torremolinos Spain Sunny Town and Beach Update May 2023 Costa del Sol | Málaga [4K 60fps]

Torremolinos is located on the Costa del Sol, on the western shore of the bay of Málaga and behind the Sierra de Mijas. It is located at an altitude of 49 meters and 13 kilometers from the center of Málaga, the provincial capital.
In the 1950s, Torremolinos was a small fishing village that became one of the main tourist destinations for sun and beach in Spain, the first in Andalucía and on the Costa del Sol. The influx of foreigners, intellectuals, hippies, bohemians, aristocrats, artists, famous personalities and tourists in general during the 1960s and 1970s created a free and easy, permissive and cosmopolitan atmosphere that made it stand out from other areas of the Costa del Sol.
"Cruces de Mayo"
The Cruces de Mayo (Crosses of May) celebrated the first weekend of May.
The Crosses of May is celebrated in a large number of places in Spain and the world, but its origin is very interesting. It dates back to the time of the 5th century when the Emperor Constantine I the Great, fighting against the barbarians, had a vision of a cross that it led him to victory and the Emperor had a Cross built with which he won the battle and later sent his mother, Saint Helena, to Jerusalem to search for the true cross.
In honor of these events, many crosses are made at the time of May and to celebrate the arrival of spring. The neighbors of a square (now the Bortherhoods and associations) agree to build a cross and dress it with flowers. Next to the cross, popular bars are made in which the neighbors meet. In Torremolinos there is a contest to determine the most beautiful and lively cross.
