Start a help day. Our family back when it was large. One Saturday a month we went to a family members house to work and help for the day. Each month new house. We did yard work, house repairs, cleaning, repaired lawnmower, planted garden, cleaned out attic, shampoo carpets. Really helped our older ones.
Love this. Genius idea! Love, love love it! When my daughter was 8 months pregnant, I rallied our other 4 adult children and any spouse/significant other(s) they had at the time….to paint the inside of her house that was going to be used as a rental. It was hot, we complained, we got dirty….but, we did it! It’s still my favorite Mother’s Day.
I have a friend I do that with. We take turns going to the other persons house once a week. Only fir and hour or two at most. We can pick any job we want help with. We are both busy moms so it’s a great way to visit and get something accomplished at the same time. More people should do this!
I remember my mom always saving S&W Green stamps. I always saved Betty Crocker coupons and used them to get very cool things. Here's something that was fun: when my children were young, we chose Thursdays to have a pioneer night. We would turn out all the lights and cook on our wood stove. We ate on the floor with candles and lanterns and told stories and jokes. We all loved it and looked forward to it. Fun times and saved a bit of electricity.
My husband and I celebrate every morning (now that he's semi retired) by having coffee in bed. We talk about our blessings, the weather and who needs our prayers that day. Sometimes I even surprise him with a slice of banana bread or a scone. This is the good stuff, my friends!
We celebrate Shabbat on Friday evenings. It always includes dinner with the family and we read the Torah portion for week together. It is always a good time to look forward to
When the weather is nice, my husband and I sit on our glider every night after the supper dishes are done. We live in a national forest area and enjoy looking at God’s creation. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀🍀🍀
My grandma saved ticket stubs from the movies all through WWII while her fiance was serving in the air force. The theatre had dishes that could be exchanged for so many stubs. She and her sister saw enough movies that by the time the war was over and my grandparents got married, they had a full set of dishes. One plate from that set is still around. My mom has it ♡
I always say "thank you", "you're welcome" etc no matter where I am. It makes me feel better in using my manners as this how I was raised. I love spending quiet time meaning no distractions and reading my favorite book (the Bible) and getting in my comfort zone. I also spend time with my dog as without him my life wouldn't be the same.
My grandmother and mother used to save stamps at the grocery store and they got sets of dishes and pots. I actually have the Little House series too; my daughter bought it for me one Christmas. It was our tradition to read the little house series every winter. I remember reading an article about Princess Diana when she was a young wife and mom. She always took the time to write a handwritten thank you note to anyone who gave them a gift or did something above and beyond for her. Since reading that article, I have made it a habit to send a personal thank you card for gifts and kindness shown to me and my family. I don't think this younger generation has any idea how something so simple can make another person feel. We now receive everything from wedding invitations to graduation announcements via text message. I think a lot of the formality and sentiment of special occasions has been lost.
My grandmother saved the stamps of both and was so excited when she would get that coveted item. She would also buy "Breeze" laundry detergent to get washcloths and dish towels.
I remember my grandmother would also get the dish towels in the powder laundry detergent. And jelly jars were "juice" glasses after the jelly was gone.
Many times when my husband and I visit his Mom I will bring a book along and read out loud to him in the car. One time I was reading a book called "Molly Up and Down the Hall" about a cocker spaniel who lived in an apartment building in NYC. Everyone on her floor loved Molly and they would leave their doors open a couple of inches and Molly would go up and down the hall visiting with everyone in their apartments while her owner worked from home. She was a hero on 9/11 as she lead all the residents on her floor safely out of the building when the Twin Towers collapsed a block away. We were about 20 miles from Mike's Mom's house when the dog died in the book. We are dog lovers and have had 3 cocker spaniels (currently Bella). Needless to say, we started crying when the dog died and when we pulled into town, we were a mess. We had to pull over, put ourselves back together, I had to fix my make up and put a smile on our face to go visit with his Mom. Had to share that read aloud story with you! Pie looks delicious! My hubby and I have movie night on Saturday nights. We either find one on a streaming service or rent one from Redbox (with a coupon). I fix popcorn, we throw on our pjs and snuggle in the double recliner to watch a movie together. We both look forward to it every Saturday night. If for some reason we can't do it on Saturday, then we do it on Friday night.
I was in my teens in the early 60’s, I grew up with Elvis, The Beatles, The Supremes, Bobby Vinton, etc….those oldies are still my favorites….I saved Green Stamps, my first purchase was a wall lamp for over my kitchen table…I was thrilled 🤗 my special time is early morning….I have a fresh cup of coffee while listening to my audio bible and usually there’s a kitty on my lap…..the pie looks delicious….I’m sure it will be a hit…..thank you….
My mom bought our first TV trays by using Green Stamps! She was so excited to get them and I remember setting them up on a Saturday night to watch Jackie Gleason in the living room! What a great memory. Paul's parent's 'occasions' are delightful! What a sweet idea. And Emmy!! That tablecloth!!♥♥♥
My husband and I have family time every night. We and our 2 dogs pile on the couch for the last hour every night and watch Barney Miller reruns. There are legs, paws and fur everywhere. It's the best part of the day.
I remember blue chip stamps and green stamps as a child. I remember going to the “service station” (i.e., gas station) and after my parents paid for our gas the attendant would use a machine that had a dial on the top to dispense our green stamps. My grandparents would use theirs to buy their dinnerware. My grandmother would always comment that she would some day pass them down to the grandchildren. My parents would laugh to themselves because they did not believe we would want those things. Well, I received them from my grandmother when I was in my 20s. I am now 62 and still use them every single day. Thank you for another wonderful trip down memory lane and for all of your suggestions.
I love that the memory of your grandmother and her gift of those dishes have been more precious to you than the need to replace them with new. That is love and contentment for sure! 💕
I had the Little House series as a kid. I don’t know what happened to the books I had. Imagine my surprise…I was visiting my friends on the Cape and we were riding around and this person had free things in front of their house. They were giving away their set of the Little House books. I took them all & now I have them in my library at home & I reread them from time to time. Those books brought me so much comfort as a kid. I love re-reading them & how cool I was able to find free copies. I am so w/ you on the old fashioned things. There are so many fun things you can do that are more old school and where you don’t have to spend $. In Sweden they do fika which is a break each day (the Swedes do this twice a day in Sweden…in the morning and in the afternoon) to have a treat and tea and coffee. It’s a nice ritual to take a pause each day and enjoy a break w/ your friends or work colleagues. Especially in the winter, I like to make tea after dinner and have it w/ a treat to end the day and before I get ready for bed. It’s relaxing and nice to do for myself. It helps me feel calm and cozy.
Now that my children are older, and have left home, I only cook and prepare my very favourite foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After each meal, I smile and think to myself, 'That was so delicious!' I work hard at being present in the moment, and enjoying all the so called 'simple' things in life. The softness of a bath towel, the warmth of the water as I have a shower, the smell of the soap, the softness of my clothes, the feeling of being refreshed after a good night's sleep, etc. This is what I celebrate many times a day. And I am so thankful for life's abundance! Thank you for your beautiful videos reminding me to value, appreciate and love myself, and my life choices.
Here in the UK we had Green shield stamps which my Mum would collect religiously. Fast fwd now I scan my Tesco qr to get both discounts and also accrue points to "spend" instore. I usually save the points and do one big meat run per year :)
Your old-fashioned videos are my favorite! I remember green stamps. My favorite weekly celebration is having Sunday dinner after church with our children and grandchildren. We love making memories!
As a child I loved having the chore of doing the blue, pink and green stamp books every weekend. Remember standing in line at the redemption center and looking at their catalog of choices for the month. Also remember the store stamps to get the dish, pot and pan sets for my hope chest.
I really enjoy the old fashioned videos. I remember my mom collecting for dishes at the grocery store. Each piece was purchased with stamp books. 1 plate, 1 bowl, gravy boat, tea cups etc She somehow ended up with the whole set. We have nacho Fridays and play games with family members. Always Sunday dinner after church also. Thank you for the lovely video and pie recipe! I remember my sister listening to The Bay City Rollers! Have a great weekend! Happy St Patrick's Day🍀
My hubby and I (married 44 years) love to sit on our screened in porch at night. My hubby smokes a cigar, I have a glass of wine and we enjoy the fireplace that we have out there. We often have game nights with our kids (13 grands) that live near us, we all bring something to eat and we do a ton of laughing. We are all living a frugal lifestyle and we are really having fun. I love your videos, you have the gift of encouragement.
My dad always made big pancake/sausage or bacon/egg breakfasts on Saturdays; those mornings were so much fun for us all. I agree about manners; I notice it when I'm at the grocery store. Often, simply taking time to say good morning/afternoon or hello sparks a little conversation and brings a huge smile to the face of the cashier, and saying thank you/have a great day to them or the employees stationed by the doors makes a huge difference. You can tell they're not always treated very respectfully. We do Friday night movie nights with homemade Mexican food and popcorn; these started when my son was little. He's in college now and still looks forward to them. Sunday nights growing up were "pizza parties" at Nana and Pop-Pop's house. I've continued that in my own home except now I make the dough instead of ordering out, and we top the pizzas however we'd like.
My Mom actually bought my wedding stainless flatware with S&H green stamps. She used the deal with part stamps and part cash payment. She let me pick out the prettiest Oneida one there was !! Of course, I definitely still have them and they are still our special flatware! That was back in 1975.
My college roommate and I pooled our green stamps to "buy" corningware pans as a wedding gift for a classmate. We were so broke but able to gift her due to the stamps we'd gathered
When I was a kid, my Dad owned a gas station. Back then even cartons of cigarettes had s&h green stamps in them. When Dad opened cartons for individual pack sales he would save the stamps. He surprised us one year with a two man sailboat!!! Mom was thrilled, but I recall she was saving hers for something " more practical" I'm sure. But boy the family surely remembers that boat a whole lot more than something " practical!!!😅 Thanks for that memory!!!!!!
TOTALLY remember the stamps!!! Maybe credit card rewards are similar today? We always pay our card off, but have gotten LOTS of free "wants":) Great video-thank you!
I had the sweetest MIL. When my husband and I first got married, she gave me enough green stamps to get several kitchen items. Such a speacial thing for her to do. Wish we still got green stamps. I do use Food Lion's Shop & Earn program. Most months I earn at least 12-$15 in cash toward future purchases. It adds up. Diane in NC
I was the designated stamp licker in our family. My mom kept the string tat was wrapped around the bread in a drawer. She would give it to me to untangle. Little did I know she would put it back in the drawer and tangle it all back up to give it to me again to keep me busy!
One of my fondest memories with my dad is taking our full book of stamps to the store. He let me pick out whatever I wanted. I picked an alarm clock and treasured it.
Loved that you talked about Manners. The world currently is sliding into ugly language in addressing one another and also responding to any incidents. Bringing back general respect and consideration for one another is desperately needed. Looking forward to seeing your family celebrations video. As ever your posts are enjoyed tremendously.
Yes, the vulgar words people are using is shocking to me. I hear it in their music, on the TV, at the grocery store, etc. I even heard 2 friends bump into each other at the store and one said, "What the beep are you doing here beep, beep?" And the other person cursed right back. Then they high fived each other. 😱😳 Unbelievable. There were even children present nearby. 😭
It was great hearing about the stamps! Also, my husband and I have devotions together every morning and it has also turned into that time we sit and talk about all sorts of things. As far as books go, I recently read my old Trixie Belden books. It was great to read them again!💕
Emmy & Paul, Just a quick note to say I enjoy your videos. I am glad you are making them. I often feel like an encyclopedia that is never opened. At 66, I have gathered so much information to pass on, and my sons are never interested. I feel it is a shame. You, on the other hand, are reaching many people with your wise words & ideas. Thank you for all you give.
Hi Emmy & Paul, I just reminded my 32 yr old frustrated son to have manners & be calm when he was calling about his workmen's comp payment. He took my advise & got his answers. Kindness is the way the world needs to be. TFS. ✌💜
My adult children still talk about saving Green Stamps all year long to buy their back to elementary school supplies each fall. We always had plenty for new backpacks full of trapper keepers, folders, writing materials and crayons etc.
I truly remember green stamps. I still have a soup tureen that my Grandma got with her green stamps, and I think that there may well be a few other things I have that she got with stamps. It was so much fun. I remember pasting them into the books, and then counting the books and the cheers that we did when we finally had enough books for the "thing."
I remember that too! I wish they would start up the stamps again. It was so fun! I also heard about detergents containing plates, or glasses. I used to enjoy Red Rose tea when they had the small ceramic figures inside….but even that ended; have to send away for the figures now. I wish there were companies offering incentives and small gifts again. It was a special treat to look forward to.
Little house books. I still read them. I'm on my second set, I literally wore the first set out. Mom got me another set 2 years ago. I always read "The Long Hard Winter" every winter so I don't feel so sorry for me. I Hate the cold but I never got below minus 6. They survived -40 below 0 burning twisted straw! Puts things into perspective lol
Reread all the little house books when the pandemic started then passed them on to our daughter to read. I collected Betty Crocker coupons and slowly but surely got my silverware and some china for my Hope chest back in the 60s. Still use them for all our holiday dinners. We still have a special dinner every Sunday and I make plenty for the family and for leftovers on Monday so I don’t have to cook on my cleaning day! Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day… my corned beef is cooking away in the crockpot as we speak!😀☘️
I (usually) take the time to truly enjoy my morning coffee. I am a coffee-lover and I don't like to just slurp my coffee down without thinking about it. Coffee is one thing that I tend to spend more money on because I absolutely love enjoying the nuances of various varieties (regions/roasts, etc.). I also like to spend a bit of time before bed reading. I read a bit in the Bible every day, then a bit in whatever book I'm currently enjoying (right now it's Tamar Adler's "An Everlasting Feast: Cooking With Economy and Grace"---loving this book!!!). I agree--we need to slow down and really enjoy being present during the little moments in life that we appreciate and enjoy! I remember "green stamps". I was a kid when people used them, but I well remember them and the little books and catalogs that went with them.
Coop in the UK used to do this before 1989. My grandmother used to save the books for when my brother and I visited in the school holidays to get us the things we wanted/needed ❤. Thank you for the memory trigger ❤.
Pie looks delicious! Yes, how well I remember saving S&H Green Stamps back in the 70's and 80's. Used to give them to my mom. She would sometimes buy me a gift with them when first married. 🍀🤑🍀
What a nice, nostalgic video that brings me back to when I was a kid in the 60’ and 70’s (I just turned 62). We still do a lot of the things you mentioned. And yes, I remember green stamps and the Bay City Rollers!
I remember them too growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. I’ll be 62 the end of this month and my youngest daughter’s birthday is today, she turned 40! My oldest daughter is 45. I always say I don’t feel old on my birthday but I sure feel old on theirs! LOL
The highchair I had for my daughter was bought with green stamps. Lots of fun collecting. When I retired I cleaned out drawers and found some. I tossed but I thought hard on tossing them.
Wow. What a great take on Green Stamps. It helped us have wants while we bought our needs. Yes, my mom saved Green Stamps. We had a Green Stamp redemption store in a town a short distance from us. Turning in our stamp books was a big deal.
What a wonderful video! Watching you guys is a welcome occasion 😊. Our regular occasion involves church on Sunday mornings followed by ice cream Cones for breakfast 😀
We have a little Friday moment, coming home with the week finished, close the door and we say a little praise to the working week passed and appreciating our efforts that week completed and then just chat for a while. And once a week when the stars are out the family gets together and do some star gazing.
Happy St.Patrick’s Day….☘️whenever I’m in a store or restaurant and the person helping me is kind I look for their supervisor to tell them how helpful they were 😊
What a bakery worthy key lime pie at a fraction of what it would cost if you bought at the bakery! My daily ritual to break up the daily to do’s is to devote half an hour to an hour to rest and knit my project. It invigorates and let me re-energize to do the rest of the to do’s. I never, nor did my children ever, grew up with gifts galore. We didn’t have much money or relatives that gave. So, we appreciate what we got. I know children these days are inundated with gifts, I hope they learn to be grateful that they are so blessed! ❤❤
i have learn to be nice all the time with everyone. you get better service when your nice and kind. Always i appreciate and Thank you. that is the trick.
I have the same set of books. I was born in 1971 and my first concert was Shaun Cassidy! We still have Sunday supper at our house and have game night. It’s a great way to start the week. Thank you for another great video.
My parents had four kids and their best friends had four kids. Every Sunday night we'd share a simple dinner at either house. Then, all the kids would prepare and put on plays for the parents. Fond memories!
Emmy and Paul totally loved this video and I remember people doing alot of what you say. Get together just little fun ones are great to do. Sundays growing up my Uncle always made some kind of soup and sandwich fixing and he baked the best homemade deserts. Family and friends use to gather every Sunday. It was a fun time Alot have passed and ones let behind seem to forget. It's sad. Manners yes please and thank you holding the door a smile it all goes along way. Thanks Emmy and Paul.
I’m 58, I remember green stamps in the 70’s. We got glasses with cartoon characters in our box of tide. I was proud to get matching dishes at our local grocery store, a new piece each week. ( I still laugh when I see them on videos). Loved the bay city rollers.
Usually on Fridays, I enjoy a tuna sandwich, made with homemade bread, and New England clam chowder, for dinner. I then enjoy a leftover tuna sandwich and soup for dinner on Saturday.
@@FrugalMoneySaver , I have a “story” about the clam chowder I use. While this is not frugal, it is quality. Anyway, several years ago, I was shopping for clam chowder, and the store was out of the usual brand I bought. I looked around and found a brand in the natural foods section. I checked the label for ingredients, and also saw where the chowder was made. The place it is made is in a small town in Maine, where my grandmother was born! I figured it was a sign, and tried it, and that was a very good decision. When cooking, I do add an extra can of clams, because I do like extra clams.
My mom did the green stamps. When she had enough we would go to the green stamp store in Elmira and get what she wanted. She got some really nice useful things.
The first band my wife ever was interested in was Bay City Rollers when she was a child. Fab tips, will put some music on. It is our wedding anniversary tomorrow and we are celebrating with a lovely meal at home and may be a glass of wine. My wife also remembers her Mum saving stamps for crockery years and years ago.
Friday evenings my husband and I have a very easy supper like pizza and instead of sitting at the table to eat, we sit on the couch and watch Murder She Wrote or Matlock (I have the complete set with every season and episodes) and eat our pizza or what ever we are having. I love the nostalgic feeling I get watching these shows!
Another wonderful video, we pasted green stamps in books too. Tonight we watched Maltese Falcon, and reading the classic Rebecca. We stay home more than we go out. We enjoy it.
I would like to add when someone does something using their manners, think holding the door, look them in the wye when you say thank you. Let them know you not only notice what they did but them too. Especially younger people, this encourages them to do it again. Sometimes I will even compliment them.
My husband and I do "Thrifting Thursdays". we leave early in the morning with our lunch and snacks packed. We are blessed with a lot of thrift stores in a short distance here in RI. Around noon, we find a cozy spot and have lunch. We leave home with a $20.00 bill, when it's gone, we go home. Sometimes we don't even spend it, but it's always a joy to look!
I remember my mom saving the S & H Green stamps. I loved pasting them in the little booklets…😊 . At some point after our daughters grew up and moved out, my husband and I began meeting up in the family room each evening to watch some favorite shows from one of the streaming platforms. Right now we are really in to NCIS! We had never watched it on live tv and still don’t, but we are enjoying all the old episodes now, along with some other favorites. Also, my husband and I have begun attending church on Sundays, and I’ve been making a nice meal for us to enjoy together once we get home from the service. Last Sunday I made southern fried bone-in pork chops, broccoli and homemade potato salad. I had gotten a huge package of the chops when it had been reduced by almost half, so I put them in our Food Saver bags (2 in each bag) and placed them in the freezer. I love your in- law’s tradition of having tea together at 3pm to catch up with each other. How sweet! Thank you for all of your great ideas. I always learn something from your videos…..😉
I remember blue chip stamps and after that ended, the local grocery store had stamps you saved on a card to get a set of dishes. We had all those dishes. And saving Betty Crocker coupons, my grandma bought my regular silverware for my hope chest that I still use today. I was a big Little House fan (still am) and liked Nancy Drew/Encyclopedia Brown... and the Boxcar Childen, Trixie Belden... I still love to read today. I remember enjoying holiday coloring books so much too. And every holiday, both my mom and grandma had little decorations they would put out for the holiday being celebrated. My morning coffee routine is special to me 😂. The day won't get started until coffee time is over. Something else I enjoy Monday thru Friday is listening to Christian radio shows at certain times of the day... there are Catholic and generic Christian radio channels out there. With radio, you can do other things around the house while you listen or sit and crochet. Weekends, I enjoy PBS... usually Saturday night they have a movie or a mystery to watch. I used to watch the garden/cooking shows on Saturday mornings but have gotten away from that. And another little tradition I used to do was to have a treat on Friday nights... it used to be a diet root beer. I change things up so am not doing that one right now.
Oh yes, those stamps was a great part of life for us "of a certain age". Mom was in charge of the stamps. What memories 😊❤. Reading is something I have gotten away from lately. I need to make a change. All the best to you and Paul.
In the early 70’s when I got married, green stamps were a popular wedding shower gift. I got several books of stamps plus lots of loose one that needed to be stuck into books. A messy job but they were a welcome gift.
My mom and I saved the S&H green stamps. I loved them. I still remember saving the stamps for an electric pencil sharpener. My husband and I inherited it and it still works.
Sunday mornings I like homemade raspberry syrup over homemade waffles with side of cottage cheese and homemade whole berry cranberry sauce,..and of course coffee.
When I taught school back in the 60's we asked the families to send in their green stamps as we saved to buy curtains for our auditorium windows. Took time but we got those curtains. Also when we had our first child I saved for a car seat ( such as they were back then) and, although not safe by todays standards, we had it for two children.
So much wisdom in this video. Old music and old books get me through this life. The Bay City Rollers were fantastic! 😀💃 I still have, and continue to read, Trixie Belden books. I still buy the originals when I find them. Old books are great how to books for abundant yet frugal living. The pie looks delicious. Enjoy! ❤️
Every week my husband and I have our 3 year old granddaughter over for a few hours. We use the time with her to play games, teach her about caring for the animals on our farm, and have her help us either on the farm, in our garden or in our kitchen. It's such a happy time and the 3 of us spend alot of time laughing and learning. It's very precious to us ❤️. Thanks for another lovely video!
My auntie and uncle on the farm would stop whatever they were doing every day at 3pm and have a cup of coffee and whatever homemade treat auntie had baked. I miss those coffee breaks and them. Thanks for the reminder
Every week Art and I get together with my brother who is retired and living on his own. We love to put in videos or find on RUclips concerts of our favorite bands "back in the day." Art and my brothers went to a lot of concerts in the 70s and 80s, and we have such fun seeing them again. My brother even found a concert he went to on RUclips from 1973. We have such fun, and since many concerts can be found through different streaming platforms we enjoy, it is a fun, frugal evening.
For me it's Sunday afternoons watching black and white only movies while eating cookies. Then there's Friday nights on the recliner with my heavy bass headphones listening to 60s music on cd's while sipping on hot tea and rum. And yes, I remember S&H green stamps and Top Value stamps and helping our parents paste them in the books.
More people should do this!

what a wonderful way to help others out! Love this idea, thanks for sharing!

I do Bible study every day which helps me to remember the blessings I have. I feel I get a better attitude toward others as well. Love your program.
Absolutely, no better pastime!

I agree! Love that you take the time to wrote a thank you! Such an important task that often gets overlooked!

Oh my gosh I would of been the same after reading that book!! UGH! Love your Saturday night movie idea!
I have corned beef in my crockpot tonight Emmy! The house smells amazing. Enjoy your St. Patrick's Day Weekend!
Thank you! You too!
Thank you Carolyn! I hope they enjoy it!
LOL! Thanks so much Susan!!
Our family had Sundaes on Sunday nights while watching America's funniest videos. A great family tradition at home!
So fun Laurie!
Gosh, my friends and I loved the Bay City Rollers!!!
Right! LOL!
When I was a young wife and mother I bough a laundry basket with Green stamps. I still use it and that was 40 years ago!
WOW… that’s great.
That must have been one well made basket lol!
Our daily afternoon walk together with the dogs is our special thing we do every day!
My husband and I have family time every night. We and our 2 dogs pile on the couch for the last hour every night and watch Barney Miller reruns. There are legs, paws and fur everywhere. It's the best part of the day.
I love that!!! "legs, paws and fur everywhere!" LOL!
Oh my gosh those dishes must be amazing! What a treasure!
Gretchen what a lovely comment! Thanks again for being such a wonderful part of our channel!
Now that my children are older, and have left home, I only cook and prepare my very favourite foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After each meal, I smile and think to myself, 'That was so delicious!'
I work hard at being present in the moment, and enjoying all the so called 'simple' things in life.
Joan what a truly lovely comment! Thank you!
Here in the UK we had Green shield stamps which my Mum would collect religiously. Fast fwd now I scan my Tesco qr to get both discounts and also accrue points to "spend" instore. I usually save the points and do one big meat run per year :)
What a good idea re: meat run once a year using those points!👏👏
Your old-fashioned videos are my favorite! I remember green stamps. My favorite weekly celebration is having Sunday dinner after church with our children and grandchildren. We love making memories!
Yes, that is the best!
As a child I loved having the chore of doing the blue, pink and green stamp books every weekend. Remember standing in line at the redemption center and looking at their catalog of choices for the month. Also remember the store stamps to get the dish, pot and pan sets for my hope chest.
What great memories!
Happy St Patrick's Day🍀
You as well! Thank you Tracey!
Oh how fun! Good for you! Thanks for watching and sharing Tamera!
What wonderful "occasions" Laura! Love them!
My Mom actually bought my wedding stainless flatware with S&H green stamps. She used the deal with part stamps and part cash payment. She let me pick out the prettiest Oneida one there was !! Of course, I definitely still have them and they are still our special flatware! That was back in 1975.
That is awesome!
My college roommate and I pooled our green stamps to "buy" corningware pans as a wedding gift for a classmate. We were so broke but able to gift her due to the stamps we'd gathered
I have all the Little House books too! Re-read them every couple years!
Oh what a wonderful memory Tamara!
My husband reads to me news on his hometown every morning and I love it!
It adds up. Diane in NC
That's great Diane! We love Food Lion when we are south!
I was the designated stamp licker in our family. My mom kept the string tat was wrapped around the bread in a drawer. She would give it to me to untangle. Little did I know she would put it back in the drawer and tangle it all back up to give it to me again to keep me busy!
LOL! That is too funny!
One of my fondest memories with my dad is taking our full book of stamps to the store. He let me pick out whatever I wanted. I picked an alarm clock and treasured it.
Oh how precious Sunny!
Thanks so much Merryl!
Love your devotion time with hubby!
Little women will always be one of my favourites. It is very relevant today.
Cheryl thanks so much for the kind words!
Hi Emmy & Paul, I just reminded my 32 yr old frustrated son to have manners & be calm when he was calling about his workmen's comp payment. He took my advise & got his answers. Kindness is the way the world needs to be. TFS. ✌💜
So true...glad it all worked out for him!
I have so enjoyed these revival videos it gives me such a comforting feeling thank you and God Bless you and your family ❤️🙏🥰
You as well Barb, thank you!
My adult children still talk about saving Green Stamps all year long to buy their back to elementary school supplies each fall. We always had plenty for new backpacks full of trapper keepers, folders, writing materials and crayons etc.
Oh that what so smart!
How wonderful!
I bought my children the whole set of Little House my daughter now has them. ❤️❤️❤️ we still love the Ingles!
I know right...they were amazing!
Yes, I can't wait for the corned beef tomorrow lol!
I love the Little House books also.
Wonderful comment! Thank you!
S A T U R D A Y Night! Those were the days of great music.
So fun!
LOL
Wonderful memories Denise and Crafty Woman!
The highchair I had for my daughter was bought with green stamps. Lots of fun collecting. When I retired I cleaned out drawers and found some. I tossed but I thought hard on tossing them.
I love my Thursday night card parties with the “card girls”. So much fun!
Wow. What a great take on Green Stamps. It helped us have wants while we bought our needs. Yes, my mom saved Green Stamps. We had a Green Stamp redemption store in a town a short distance from us. Turning in our stamp books was a big deal.
I grew up with all these occasions. Really miss them. Trying to restart.
What a wonderful video! Watching you guys is a welcome occasion 😊. Our regular occasion involves church on Sunday mornings followed by ice cream Cones for breakfast 😀
Love that breakfast idea Julia!
We have a little Friday moment, coming home with the week finished, close the door and we say a little praise to the working week passed and appreciating our efforts that week completed and then just chat for a while. And once a week when the stars are out the family gets together and do some star gazing.
Both things are beautiful, especially the star gazing. 🌠
That is just wonderful NJ!
Happy St.Patrick’s Day….☘️whenever I’m in a store or restaurant and the person helping me is kind I look for their supervisor to tell them how helpful they were 😊
That is so kind Francine! Happy St. Patty's Day!
So kind May Joe thank you!
i have learn to be nice all the time with everyone. you get better service when your nice and kind. Always i appreciate and Thank you. that is the trick.
I have the same set of books. I was born in 1971 and my first concert was Shaun Cassidy! We still have Sunday supper at our house and have game night. It’s a great way to start the week. Thank you for another great video.
I love💚🍀your Sunday meal and game tradition.
Oh my gosh Shaun!!
My parents had four kids and their best friends had four kids. Every Sunday night we'd share a simple dinner at either house. Then, all the kids would prepare and put on plays for the parents. Fond memories!
I still have my childhood set of Little House books too ☺️
Emmy and Paul totally loved this video and I remember people doing alot of what you say.
Get together just little fun ones are great to do.
Sundays growing up my Uncle always made some kind of soup and sandwich fixing and he baked the best homemade deserts. Family and friends use to gather every Sunday. It was a fun time
Alot have passed and ones let behind seem to forget. It's sad.
Manners yes please and thank you holding the door a smile it all goes along way.
Thanks Emmy and Paul.
So true Sandra! Thanks for being a part of our channel!
I’m 58, I remember green stamps in the 70’s. We got glasses with cartoon characters in our box of tide. I was proud to get matching dishes at our local grocery store, a new piece each week. ( I still laugh when I see them on videos).
Loved the bay city rollers.
Weren't they the best back then!
Usually on Fridays, I enjoy a tuna sandwich, made with homemade bread, and New England clam chowder, for dinner. I then enjoy a leftover tuna sandwich and soup for dinner on Saturday.
I love New England clam chowder!
Got our very first table lamps for the living room with green stamps my mom had saved way back in 1981! Good (frugal) memories.
Happy Anniversary!! Have a wonderful day! Blessings on many more years!
Sounds wonderful Laurie!
Yes great fun!
Another wonderful video, we pasted green stamps in books too. Tonight we watched Maltese Falcon, and reading the classic Rebecca. We stay home more than we go out. We enjoy it.
Oh I love Rebecca, the book and the movie!
I would like to add when someone does something using their manners, think holding the door, look them in the wye when you say thank you. Let them know you not only notice what they did but them too. Especially younger people, this encourages them to do it again. Sometimes I will even compliment them.
Lovely Karen!
I ❤ green stamps! My grandma had several items from the green stamp store, a child’s record player and even a set of dishes.
Oh what a lovely idea! Really like that!
❤❤ What a fun day. I love this!
Lovely comment! Thank you!
So creative! All wonderful occasions for sure!
Christmas coloring books were a treasure.
Oh yes, those stamps was a great part of life for us "of a certain age". Mom was in charge of the stamps. What memories 😊❤. Reading is something I have gotten away from lately. I need to make a change. All the best to you and Paul.
You as well Phyllis, thank you!
In the early 70’s when I got married, green stamps were a popular wedding shower gift. I got several books of stamps plus lots of loose one that needed to be stuck into books. A messy job but they were a welcome gift.
Oh how clever!! Thanks for sharing that!
Happy St.Patrick's day 🍀💚
I am late commenting, but I love listening to 60's and 70's music on Friday night. When I am doing a puzzle.
So fun right!
We had the best music.
I loved when my mom let me add the green stamps to the book! Thanks for the happy memory.
Thanks for watching Jeanne!
My mom and I saved the S&H green stamps. I loved them. I still remember saving the stamps for an electric pencil sharpener. My husband and I inherited it and it still works.
Oh how wonderful Michelle!
Irish here, Aw the memories!!! My mum saved the green shield stamps. I remember a tea set and a hairdryer that she bought. Simpler times.
Emmy, you give such good advice! We need to hear what you are saying, and then put it into practice.
Thanks so much Sherie!
Sunday mornings I like homemade raspberry syrup over homemade waffles with side of cottage cheese and homemade whole berry cranberry sauce,..and of course coffee.
Sounds delightful Linda!
On Sunday I make French toast.I love it and it uses up older bread! Win win situation.😊❤
My husband and I used green stamps. I bought so many pretty glasses and dishes to use.
Yup I loved BCR too!!
When I taught school back in the 60's we asked the families to send in their green stamps as we saved to buy curtains for our auditorium windows. Took time but we got those curtains. Also when we had our first child I saved for a car seat ( such as they were back then) and, although not safe by todays standards, we had it for two children.
That's wonderful!
Enjoy! ❤️
Thanks so much Lori!
You are making wonderful memories for her as well!
I still have that same set of books from the 70s too! My favorite ❤
My auntie and uncle on the farm would stop whatever they were doing every day at 3pm and have a cup of coffee and whatever homemade treat auntie had baked. I miss those coffee breaks and them. Thanks for the reminder
What a lovely memory!
Yes!!! Paul and I do that as well! We were watching an old Marshall Tucker Band concert the other night!
I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful St. Patrick's Day. My Mom and I used to collect S&H Green Stamps.
Sandra, thanks for sharing!
I did green stamps!!! Still have the ironing board. 50 yrs
WOW! That's amazing!
The Bay City Rollers was my favorite group and my first concert! Thanks for mentioning them❤️
I read the Little House books for the first time as an adult. What great books!
Aren't they amazing!
