I left Arran when I was a child of 5 or 6 & here I sit in Australia tears running down my face watching your lovely video. How can I feel homesick for a place I left when I was so young, yet I have many memories & a few photos of my life there. Thank you for making this footage. Susan Bunce
Thats very kind words Susan. Glad you liked it. I will keep posting more videos over time from Arran when I get the footage. As I said in the description its a ballance between family time and drone time when on the Isle, the two don't mix well. Keep a lookout later this year for more videos from Arran. Steven
wow, i have to say, this is outstanding aerial cinematography. the final shot up glen sannox, and the shots on the west side of the clouds tumbling over the mountains..... just wow shots.
It's an absolute delight to watch this video, beautiful footage, u r an amazing pilot and u've got a good aye for composition ,,,THANK U for this video.
Hi and thanks very much for your kind words. You will notice I fly mostly well above tree height and occasionally up to the 120m height limit below the drone. I find it easier to see the drone and concentrate on the shot as there is nothing to hit at that height. Arran is such a scenic island its hard to go wrong really. I have tons more footage and will get more this year. Editing is the hard part. I will post more this year. Thanks again
Thanks very much. More to come. Getting more great footage recently at Easter. Editing is the hold up. New faster PC is required. Posting more this year Steven.
Born and bred Arranite. Left when I was 15. Absolutely fantastic to see all the villages and towns from the air. Been round the island Hundreds of times. This is phenomenal work. Wee captions top right corner would have been handy for people who don't know the island. ❤️👌👍🏴
Hi, and thanks so much for your kind words. I have a new video almost complete and will upload in the Autumn. Its a much more comprehensive tour around the whole island and up some of the major peaks, all with titles. I've held back posting the new video as I was planning to climb more peaks to add to it, however I'm now two years into Long Covid and its weakened me too much to consider getting up to the high heights. Keep an eye out for the new video around October/ November. Thanks again. Steven
Great stuff Gordon. That was summer 2021. I've new footage coming soon in the Autumn. A more comprehensive tour round Arran. Thanks for your comments Steven
Beautiful video! It was lovely to meet you on the beach at Whiting Bay. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing videos, your knowledge of Arran, and your love for this beautiful place! Charlie and Carol
Thanks very much for your lovely comments. Lovely to meet you too. Batteries are charged up to fly some of the west side of Arran today (17th July) . Waiting for the sun. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. Steven
Steven, please keep on making these aerial videos of Arran, my favourite place. They are fantastic. If you could cover every inch of the island, and possibly Cumbrae and Bute too, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks very much Phil. Been flying earlier this year and again in July. Long covid has set me back in the spring but getting more footage now. Bute and Cumbrae aren't on the immediate list though never say never. Arran is our destination as we have a caravan here so we pop over quite often. Thanks for the comments Steven
paused at the holy island shot, just fantastic shots, you have a clear talent for this. i look forward to more vids, and not just because it helps me scout out new shots for my vids hehe, you should have a look at glen sannox, its a 4 mile easy hike up to where i sat. but it puts you right in among a lot of peaks and ridges,
Thanks for you kind words. I've actually travelled all over the island many times over including Glen Sannox. Unfortunately this was life before kids and drones. I have a bucket load of places still to fly but its just a matter of time till I tick them off. Your video up and down the Witches Step is utterly astonishing. Well worth a view. Happy flying. Steven Steven.
Brilliant footage of a beautiful and close to my heart place. You have captured it so well mate.I’ve only recently bought a quality DJI drone and this is what i am aiming to be able to do eventually.
Hi Trevor. Thanks for the compliment. Arran is one of the nicest places to be. I have much more footage waiting to be edited but Ive had PC issues and am currently using an older graphics card not up for the job. A new PC hopefully soon so more Arran videos to come. Long covid has stopped me getting up in the mountains since summer 22. I have already shot a fair amount of Arran mountain tops but im keeping that till I get recover enough to climb up and get more in the can. As far as you getting a new drone Im sure you will have great fun with it. I find keeping the drone at a reasonable height (less than 120meters / 400ft above the ground below it) is the best and keeps you above obsticals. generally speaking I fly around 100 feet up to around 300ft. I think its the safest zone from birds etc. The key to good footage is smooth turns. Jerky / quick turns look rubbish, so slow consisten turns are the key. I shoot with the settings at DCinelike at ISO 100, 25p, 50 frames sec. I use Davinci Resolve which is incredible and free. Have fun flying. Steven
Thanks Anne. Plenty more footage in the can. Editing can take some time as I am full time camera man as well. Always busy. Enjoy many more visits to Arran in the future! For everyone who's been and only saw rain and mist, this shows how beautiful it can be. Steven
@@stevenwilliamsonscotland823 Unfortunately we live in Canada & don’t get home to Scotland as often as we’d like.I love landscape photography and recently upgraded to a Nikon Z 611. Quite the learning curve from my DSLR & to manual mode but having fun! Look forward to your next video Steven 💙
@@annetivendale8616 Thats some kit you have there. Top quality Nikon. You will have fun with that. Best advice I can give is to invest in the highest quality lenses you can for it. Expensive lenses generally give you a faster lens ( wider aperture) eg f2.8 etc which let more light reach the sensor giving a shallower depth of field if required and are also better in low light. Enjoy your hobby Steven
@@stevenwilliamsonscotland823 Just an update from our earlier chat! Treated myself to the Nikon Z 70-200mm f2.8 lens this afternoon.Excited to get out and try it.💙
Thanks! More aerial views of Arran to come. Got plenty more footage this summer. Just need to get it edited to some music. Kings Cross is a lovely place. Often head out to Kings Cross Point to the Viking Fort and onwards to the Holy Isle on my kayak Steven
Hi again. I have had a look and it looks great. I'm afraid everything has stopped for me at the moment due to long covid hitting me again. I'm absolutely wiped out. Any physical activity floors me. God only knows how long it will last. 2022 has been almost a wash out. Got some good footage on Arran in March before the actual Covid struck and again in July when I met you at Brodick pier, that was a window of being alright but I'm absolutely wiped out again now with long covid. The Avata look superb though. Steven
@@stevenwilliamsonscotland823 thats awful, sounds a lot like lymes disease which is crushing me, i'm wondering if there is an overlap, i feel like i ran two marathons lost two fights and got hit by a truck, everyday. i could maybe handle that but the brain fog.... jeezo it makes life a runaround. hope you get some good days soon. i'm gonna try and head to arran again this week, probably in glen sannox again with my 3ful gear tent, its brown dome type. the heat destroyed me last couple of times, hopefully its a bit more sensible this time. the avata looks incredible, if you can afford it i say go for it, i have zero caveats on that.
Ah there's a reason for that. I actually lost my first drone into the sea at Lochranza due to a bird strike. I'm slowly making my way around Arran and over the next season or two ill post more. Sorry about the lack of certain parts of the Island. Ill update the description to explain the lack of areas covered. Steven
Steven, Your footage is absolutely outstanding. Do you take aerial photos? I’d be particularly interested to see some taken over Lamlash. A lot of my guests have asked me about photos for purchasing as gifts.
Hi Miora, where abouts are you located in Lamlash. There are strict rules about overlying built up areas. I have to keep a certain distance from actual built up areas. I never fly over towns. Coastlines which are quiet are fine as are open fields and moorland. Steven
Hi Ian. Thanks for the post much appreciated. Its a Mavic Air 2. Some footage from my 1st one and most from my current second one. A flock of Oyster Catchers decided they didn't like my first and took it down at Lochranza Castle. Steven
Hi Steven. Thanks for the info. I have a Dji Mini 2 It’s not bad considering the price etc. Been lucky re bird attacks so far, although I have been warned.😂😂. Had a few curious Seagulls once. Have a nice day. Ian
Hey I was wondering if you could help me with some drone footage which I could use as broll for a video I would like to put myself together. I will be on The Isle of Arran next week for 4-5 days. I don't have a drone myself and I will be carrying my Canon D80 and a few lenses. I will try to keep it light on the equipment because I am doing a lot of walking and some wild camping during my trip. I will of course give you credit on any content I will be publishing on social media platforms
