I don't think it's that clear-cut. The message is also that there can be "ands". "Let the moment go, don't forget it for a moment though", and therefore, that can make "the 'or' mean more than it did before". I took it to mean she learned she could live her life in a less confined way. THAT is truthful to me. I think Sondheim chose infidelity - and specifically a woman's - to convey the message to make things edgier.
I remember I had to use the bathroom while seeing the movie but I was holding it because I didn't want to miss anything. WHile she was singing I just thought "ok, nothing important is happening, im going to go" and when i come back shes dead.
I love the constant switch between her being excited that she kissed the man of her dreams, the guilt because she has a child and husband and her sadness that she can’t have the dream and her family
This is actually in a way, the most beautiful song in the show....if you listen to the lyrics and the melody, it sets up the audience to get emotional when she dies in the following scene....
And in folklore and myths going back to the dawn of time, magicians, healers and seers often lived in the woods or at the edge of the woods. Aka the people who can move between both worlds.
José Valentín Silva Just a moment, one peculiar passing moment...must it all be either less or more, either plain or grand? Is it always "or"?Is it never "and"? That's what woods are for: For those moments in the woods...
Which was why she cheated. She felt emotionally, physically and psychologically drained. Cheating isn't right, but you can see why in these circunstances, she'd do it.
@@denisedoumbia1691 she was unhappy with her life, a baby, a bigger house,... a handsome prince. This song is her realizing what she has is just as wonderful and amazing, and learning to be happy with it. Realizing she has an amazing husband who loves her, a baby they went through thick and thin just to have.... Because it can all be taken away in the blink of an eye.
Her death was so sudden?? She was like "Hey I'm gonna go back to my family and sh!t Well f^ck I'm dead-". I wasn't even sad, just really _confused_ and _disappointed._
This song is kind of like an epiphany or religious experience for this character though. She literally did not understand how to allow herself to feel happiness and process her past. Once she learns that, she dies because there's nothing else that character could have learned.
this is my fav song into the woods, well my fav song.but its so sad because more or less as soon as she finishes this song she dies i hope i am not the only one how cried when she died and at the end when she is a spirit and she is singing to james corden and the child (great film if u have not seen this film,go and watch it you will lovvvvvvve it trust me i love it so much i have achly seen it 7 times oooopppppssss
I like into the woods movie and the all the songs to so thank you for making this video Im sure EVEY BODY will like this video keep up and good job for getting a back ground and taping up the right letters of the songs I will like all of your video so you get loss of like and good comments bye.
I remember seeing that movie for the first time as a child and I couldn't believe my eyes when the baker's wife made out with the prince and then she died. My little self wasn't ready to see that hahahaha
Again- as she steals golden slipper and finally succeeds and when Steward tries to steal it she says “no! This is mine! I do not care if it costs my life”. Biggest spoiler flag
I'm sorry but I'm confused about this song. How does the "or" mean more? What's the difference between an "and" and "or", pertinent to this song, of course?
+Christie Hong The "and" means more. She's singing about she can't have an "and" (meaning the Baker and the Prince) and that there needs to be an "or" (the Baker OR the Prince).
She's not singing or means more she's saying or means more to her now that she's had an and referring to her husband the baker meaning more now that she's had the experience with the prince(the and).
Christie Hong she means it like “I can have my baby and husband OR the prince for whatever” or “I can have my baby and husband AND the prince for whatever” she’s saying rather than picking she can have both
So she just got sexually assaulted by the prince I know she did not consent to any of that and then proceeds to try to justify what the prince did. Like, honey.....no... A lot of the shit in this movie seemed very rapey to me.
This song actually made me realise that there are basically no "and's" just "or's". Such a truthful song

"And it's time to leave the woods!"
...
Who's gonna tell her?
"Yep, I had a moment, and it was nice, but I'm gonna do the right thing and get back to my child and husband-"
*Dies*
OH NOO
At least didn't die being stupid
This is actually in a way, the most beautiful song in the show....if you listen to the lyrics and the melody, it sets up the audience to get emotional when she dies in the following scene....
“Who can live in the woods?" Granny can
Actually she dies in the woods...
Granny can but she can't catch the gingerbread man! ( IDK It rhymed! XP)
And in folklore and myths going back to the dawn of time, magicians, healers and seers often lived in the woods or at the edge of the woods. Aka the people who can move between both worlds.
Granny did* 😭😂
RIP to the baker’s wife but Granny is built different.
"And it's time time to leave the woods! (and die)"
Kelsea Enriquez This made me laugh and then immediately feel bad for laughing
And...she never left the woods...
"the woods" is life, and "Out of the woods" is a metaphor for death. She actually understood what happiness was, moments before her death. Beautiful.
Nooooooo🥲
Perfect voice. Perfect actress.
The fact that she predicted what would happen next LMFAO.
" Even now and then a bad one! "
Love this song!!! So sad that just as she realises how much the baker and her new baby mean to her, her "or", she... (quiet sob)
And a prince for whatever
It`s these woods!
Jut get out f these woods
Was that me no it wasn`t
Just a trick of the woods.

The baker’s wife is one of my all time dream roles
Bakers wife: No one lives in the woods.
Wolf: Am I a joke to you?
This song made me realize how much I loved her, she did all she could for her husband through the entire movie.... then she dies😞😫😠
Which was why she cheated. She felt emotionally, physically and psychologically drained. Cheating isn't right, but you can see why in these circunstances, she'd do it.
"No One Lives In These Woods!!"
Granny: *Are you sure about that?*

I thought she wasn't actually a spirit, she was just how the Baker remembered her and what he thought she would have said if she were still alive.
I prefer the original musical that the film was based on

Is it bad that when I watched the movie that I was laughing hysterically when she died? Idk why but I found it absolutely hilarious when she died.

It was in K.C Undercover on the 1st half of the Disney Channel songs lol.
i like into the woods it is a good movie
:/ why is everything in the disney version so much slower,,?
Yes
Maybe to emphasize the acting a little more than the singing unlike in broadway

we're doing this show now..
No one lives in the wood
Granny: Hold my basket

How did it go ?
I'm auditioning for baker's wife!!!

So this song is basically about this woman justifying why she cheated on her husband..
Well this truly is good ol karma being a bitch 😂

Would it be too wrong to portray Aqua doing something like this on my fic ? I want to give my "Kingdom Hearts" version a "Grimm Brothers" touch.
