      Hi Chris, vielen lieben Dank, das freut mich echt sehr :)
      Ja, die Story ist eigentlich sogar das "Gewisse Etwas", das ein starkes Foto ausmacht.
      Vielen Dank und hab einen schönen Sonntag,

    Thank you, Christian. This is such valuable advice, and simply explained so that even a dunderhead like me can understand it. And then this morning, I got a feed to my phone about a photographer by the name of Alvarez who has a series of landscapes in Scotland of remote dwellings. It really underlined your lessons.

      Photography, art, story telling - all these things is not really difficult, actually. I'm giving me best to simplify things here on my videos. This is why I appreciate your kind words even more :)

    Oft ein sehr fließender Übergang zwichen Story und Interpretation 🤔alles eine Sache der Betrachtung 😉

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  3 года назад

      Hallo Klaus, auf jeden Fall, wobei die Interpretation unterstützend mit der Komposition folglich zur Story führt. Aber damit betrachten wir die Sache schon etwas zu wissenschaftlich dafür, dass es eigentlich Kunst sein soll :)
      Nur mal aus Spaß ein wissenschaftlicher Ansatz: Interpretation aus (Realität + Fantasie) => Story. Und der Pfeil (=>) ist die Komposition, die zur Story führt. Das könnten wir sogar noch auf der Betrachterseite weiterspinnen, aber wir wollen ja nicht zu wissenschaftlich werden ;)
      Vielen Dank für's Schauen und hab einen schönen Sonntag,
      Christian

    Great video. It's always good to thinking of story of your image then just a capture it. Of course not all images have to have story to tell, but with story picture would have deeper meaning and be more appreciated ✊✊✊

      Hi my friend, it definitely depends on which kind of photograph it should get. For fine art photography the story is quite important - to get that "deeper meaning" as you mentioned, but there is no need to do fine art photography only, of course :)

    i really appreciate you approach about storytelling and i am usually impressed by how you can pull out the story out of nowhere (landscapes) :-) i agree that photos without the story are only photos so also love to offer more information to the viewers. keep up the shots and even greater video content. greetings from croatia. denis

      Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, story telling is a quite important part in fine art photography, but definitely not always so easy.

      Hi Carol, yes definitely. What works best for me is really not trying to do it with violence. Just enjoy nature and be open for receiving a fantastic story. And give it time, it also didn't work for me over night ;)

    Nonsense. In landscape photography, we are trying to capture and create sonething that is visually interesting. Period.

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  3 года назад

      Hi Turd, thank you for your comment! There are a lot of different reasons why people like to photograph landscapes. The bandwidth goes from just taking remember shots, saving the emotions they had when they were there, taking beautiful photos, taking proof photos that they were there, photographing just to get relaxed, using photography as reason for undertaking something with friends, liking the part of handling with camera gear, capturing stunning weather conditions, creating art, earning money and so on. On my experience each single photographer has a very personal and individual reason why he does what he does and in many cases it is a mix of different reasons, as it is in my case, for instance. And there is definitely no right and wrong - it is just a question of preference. I'm primary interested in creating fine art photographs and I'm trying to produce videos that are useful for photographers who want to improve their landscape photography - mostly independent on their preference actually. Knowing about how to tell a story with landscape photography can massively improve someone's photography and for fine art photography it is even a requirement. Someone who just wants to get a nice capture will not have an advantage with it, of course. But again: there is no right or wrong in the preference of landscape photography and we should be tolerant to photographers who have simply other preferences. Sometimes I also just enjoy beeing outside with my camera to capture nice scenes :)
      Thank you for watching and nice greetings from Austria,
      Christian

    Absolute garbage! I create photographs not a story. This Story requirement is bull****. I have been creating and selling photo prints for 40 years without this Story nonsense. Pathetic.

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  3 года назад

      Hi Steve, there are so many different reasons why landscape photographers like to photograph. We will not have to tell a story for taking a snapshot or for capturing just a weather phenomenon. But if we want to bring our photography to art, we need to fulfill a couple of requirements. One of the base requirements for getting a piece of art - and it doesn't matter if it is painting, music, photography, or whatever - is to create something new. A capture of reality is rarely something new, it is just a capture of reality. You can sell it of course, if it looks well and if others like it, but this doesn't make it to art. But we can create something new also in photography. This is what Max Wertheimer called "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" in his "Gestalt Theory" around hundret years ago. It is necessary that the photograph, the painting, the song, whatever - is saying something to bring it to art. This is the story the image tells.
      If we just want to get the sum of the parts in our photographs (what is totally okay by the way), we don't need a story of course. If we want to get a whole, that is greater then the sum of its parts, I like to see it like Max Wertheimer and go for a story, that brings my work to art.
      But the story doesn't need to be a real "story" in the narrow sense. It could also be just a message or mood, to evoke emotions at the viewers. Just think about abstract works.
      I originally come from painting as my grandfather was a homeland painter here in Austria and a professor in art. I engaged a lot with things like these up from my childhood and it really helped me a lot in my photography.
      However, thanks a lot for watching and nice greetings,
      Christian

      @@ianmcdiarmid4563 Hi Ian, I hear this often, that photographers think, just people could tell a story. Also landscapes can :)
