@@A_sharpner A little more specific please. Could you give the names of the manufacturers who produce high quality treadmills for work? I've looked into this topic 2 months ago but wasn't able to find something of high quality.
This treadmill is genius. It exercises the body through walking, disassembly, and cleaning. Additionally exercises the mind by making sure you learn what you forgot and thinking how to make other equipment work that is affected by static electricity or indirectly touching. The designer thought so thoroughly about it that they even made it look like these intentional functions were unintentional.
On a serious note, this video inspired me to buy a similar treadmill for my home office as I already own a standing desk. 2 weeks ago this video came out and 2 weeks ago I bought my compact treadmill. On average, I walk over 5 miles a day at about15K steps and already my pants are starting to feel loose. I already own a full Treadmill, but at best I would use it 3 times a week for 30 min at a time. Having this compact treadmill at my standing desk while I work, play video games, and watch videos changed my life. I can walk at a 2.4MPH pace and forget that I am walking. Hours later I feel tired and realize I have thousands of steps and burned a few hundred calories.
The problem with checking amazon reviews for excersise equipment is that the VAST majority of them are written by people who want to get in shape, use them twice, write a review saying how great it is and then it never comes out of the closet again, so the review doesnt take into account how it holds up to regular use. Ive bought equipment in the past with great reviews that did work great...for about 3 workouts
It's the same with other product too. I bought a stereo with pretty good reviews to replace the one in my project car and its face plate was too wide for the dashboard covering to be put back in. Years ago I was servicing a Sorvall RC-3B centrifuge (it's the size of a washing machine) that runs on 240VAC. I learned the hard way that the breaker on the machine only disconnects neutral. The motor brushes still have live 240 ready to kick your ass. I learned a lot that day.
Yeah, it's always better to disconnect the plug. They should add a bipolar switch, as in most of the world the connector is reversible and phase can be on any of the two wires, but that adds cost.
This video is a good reminder that physical activity is important. You don't have to dedicate your life to sports and you don't have to work to become buff. But some form of workout is required for improving one's health. The trick I found is to incorporate the activity into the daily routine. I shower before bed, so I went on a walk around the neighborhood before shower. That way, every time I felt like I just want to shower and go to bed, I made it so I want to walk, shower and go to bed. Mehdi made it part of his work routine. As soon as you put things into your routine, they're much easier to maintain.
So very true. Going to gym never worked for me i would always quit. Starting exercise at home then walk after work was lot more easy. Even on days i dont feel like it, i tell myself okay only 15 mins today or lets just call a friend and go on a walk
Thank you for expressing a healthy weight for yourself, Mehdi! It's not about continuing to drop lbs. Our bodies have a healthy range that's best for us and it varies from person to person. Health isn't just about the number, it's about your whole body. Thank you for this awesome video and sharing the journey!
Considering that the cause he explained is completely realistic. I want to know how many people have been shocked by these crappy trash-cheap products.
@@Splarkszter Even if it was a highend expensive treadmill, he would've still gotten the same static discharge through the wired headphones. It's just building up static charge like walking around in the house does, only usually you don't walk for miles on end in your house. And even if you did, you'd most likely occasionally touch something that discharges you.
Thank you for this video. I have a standing desk for 10 years now and I never use it for standing only sitting. I was thinking to get a treadmill too, but I was too lazy to compare 100 treadmills to get the best / longest lasting one. Your video keept me motivated to buy an eletrical treadmill. BTW I did some digging and if you have the money or the time you should investigate the premium mechanical treadmills (without electricity) - for example: AssaultRunner Pro. They are completely silent, no maintenance required and cost 2000 to 6000 € - or something like 200 € if you build it yourself. There are some examples that work for standing desks too. I do not have the skill or budget now to get a mechanical treadmill yet - but maybe in a couple of years.
5:53 This happened to me 2 years ago where I keep getting shocked at my table. Instead of the wristband, I ended up getting an ESD mat for my desk with proper grounding.
In 2015 my job became obsolete at aged 65. Over the next few months I acquired half a dozen free treadmills and dismantled them for the Motors primarily. All of my free treadmills were better than your Amazon one. All of them had a thermocouple of some sort in line with one of the motor leads. Maybe try marketplace. I am in Victoria BC so your market for free treadmills will probably be about the same.
Impressive persistence. I started walking at least 3km a day a couple of months ago. Like you, I lost about 2.5kg within a month but have hit a plateau at 84kg now. I'm pretty sure it's brought my blood pressure down. My sports shoes were causing a static build-up on the treadmill too, so now I wear my work boots until I can afford different shoes. I had a different pair of sports shoes a few years ago that didn't do it so it's something in those particular shoes. I was jogging too but now my knees and/or ankles let go within 10 minutes if I do that.
Hey. I watched your video some time ago and I've been stewing the idea of getting a treadmill myself since then. I went through a million reddit threads, youtube videos and stuff like that. I've watched your video like 10 times by now, I think. Point is, I was scared of getting a cheap one because I thought it'd break as often as yours. I kept pushing back the idea of exercising more and more. Well... It is my 2nd day walking on my $200 treadmill. I hope it lasts a long time but at this point I don't care. Yesterday I walked 4h while doing frontend work and today I'm 3h in and walking while I type this lol I love it so far. I'll keep updating the comment :) Thank you for encouraging me to get healthier.
@jenniferh9505 I used it daily for around 4-5h for about 3 weeks and now i’m down to 2-3h about 3-4 days a week. It is fun to use, specially during repetitive tasks where i’m just listening to music and not thinking much. When I need to focus a bit more I usually sit down because I noticed I sometimes turn off my brain and just stare at the screen for a minute because i’m enjoying walking itself lol The treadmill still works fine. Lubricating it is a bit of a pain but no odd odors so far. I find myself getting annoyed sometimes if I have to move it too many times in a single day so I often just walk for a bit, go have lunch and then come back to walk some more... Or I go work on the sofa for 30 min to rest... Instead of just putting it away when I want a short rest. My weight initially went down a bit but now it’s stable. I think walking just makes me more hungry and I eat more because i’m not too focused on diet atm. Overall: still recommend it. The treadmill is nosy and gets in the way in my small office but I think it’s a positive in my life.
4:40 this headphone stuff... It always happens to me. The band is a great idea, I've just resorted to always having a hand on the table - great when the belt slips but annoying.
Electroboom somehow manages to have problems with electricity that I not only didn’t know were possible, but has them more frequently than I could even IMAGINE was possible
4:23 must be the side effects of a strongly grounded install... mine is the same, radiators are a strong ground too, once got a visible arc edit: it is indeed confirmed to be a strongly grounded despite being from 1976, I wonder if after changing it to TT it will give me such ESD as well 🤨
Excellent video. I think people generally need to do a better job of taking care of themselves and a walking desk is a relatively easy hack to do that. I've been using a treadmill desk for nearly a decade now. The one I'm using has been good except for the control board which I've had to replace several times. (Thankfully under warranty each time). Since it's been out of warranty, I replaced the control board with a pulse width modulator which has been very solid, but I did admittedly lose some features. I used to occasionally use it for running, but now only walk in it.
I love how you were so lazy you preferred a wrist thing than to fix the wiring on the machine. Tells me I would love the product. Thanks for the long term review, I was planning on buying a treadmill soon.
Excellent video, as usual. I believe the reason why the PCB switched the neutral instead of the live wire is that in many parts of the world, house wiring is not polarized. For instance, here in Austria, you can plug the wires in either way, so the live and neutral wires aren't consistently on the same side. In most houses, there isn't a standard for always placing the live wire on the same side of the receptacle; in fact, in many older houses, the wiring to the socket is connected randomly. Except ground, obviously.
Thanks for the video. I have a treadmill in the attic (for my wife) that I've never used before. I managed to do a poor man's job of attaching a screen to it and placing a keyboard and mouse. Have been working while walking yesterday and today with pleasure, though am noticing that I'm not just to covering these kind of distances :)
You would think working with computers and electronics for years would dull me to this but nope! Everytime i see some one shocked i can't help it and his reactions have me in tears
I’m proud of you finding a fitness solution that works so well for you! I weld at a desk all day for my job, but the facility I work in has a gym I can use for free.
I always concentrate the best when I'm walking, but i havent been able to do that at home. This video was super interesting, maybe I should invest in one aswell 👀 i already got an electric desk from a friend too.
Thanks a lot for this! I've been wanting to get a treadmill for using at my workstation (and at home) especially during other activities like work, gaming, etc. I like how you included the "hassle" of having a treadmill as well with servicing and such. I also have cats so I'd look for something that maybe has filters to make sure things keep clean as much as possible. This has at least informed me a bit more in my decision. Much appreciated video!
@@Owen_loves_Butters yes it is. It is also safer. Go and plug something in behind a couch, or TV stand. Or that fact if I'm troubleshooting I leave the thing plugged in. I also don't need to pull the plug to isolate it if something goes wrong, or if I want to cut the power while I'm away. Once you have to plug it in back in, its easier. Fucking wild to think pulling a plug and having to put it back is easier than flipping a little switch.
@@PBMS123 It is not safer in the slightest, and is barely if at all easier. It's nothing more than a minuscule convenience factor, and probably would safe a few seconds over an entire lifetime. It takes practically zero effort to simply grab and pull. Oh, and for the record, we do have switched outlets, we just put the switch in a place where it isn't completely redundant. What's really wild is you being so smug over your pointless switches, when if you wanted to criticize the North American electrical system, there's many actual things to criticize that matter, like the fact that our plugs have zero safety and extension cords that cannot carry a circuit's full capacity are not required to have a fuse or breaker.
@@Owen_loves_Butters The only person here being smug is you. lol, they are safer, and more convenient. To say they're not safer in anyway what so ever is just insane. I've had to deal with both. I can leave things plugged in but turned off, which is convenient, and safe. . I can turn of all the plugs in my house when going away on holiday for a long period. The switch isolates the outlet, which means sticky fingers are not going to get shocked by an empty outlet - and for NA which does not mandate, and it appears manufacturers don't do anyway, is have insulated plug blades/tines. Everywhere else in the world plugs are insulated at the base so small fingers won't electrocute themselves by touching the blades of a plug that is half out of the socket, where it is in contact with the electrical contacts and so is live, and said person's little fingers are touching them. I didn't point out the huge number of other things wrong with the NA electrical standards because I wasn't commenting on that. But there are plenty. NA outlets, brand new ones look like they're straight out of the 50s. Exposed metal. Exposed energised metal wire connections etc. A switch adds extra safety by de-energising the outlet and anything plugged in without having to pull the cord out. The fact you can't see that it adds safety and convenience and crucially removes nothing, is mind boggling.
@@PBMS123 "I can leave things plugged in but turned off" Yeah, so can we. Everything that can be plugged in has its own power switch. Is that just not a thing where you are? Do manufacturers just make things assuming you've got that little switch? "Sticky fingers are not going to get shocked by an empty outlet" That just... doesn't happen here. The live contacts are buried within the receptacle, and can't be touched directly by human fingers. Your criticism of our plugs is 100% valid, but it has nothing to do with switches. "Exposed metal" Any exposed metal must be grounded. If a live wire touches it the breaker will trip. "The switch adds extra safety by de-energizing" Which you can also do by UNPLUGGING THE THING. You have to reach for the socket anyway to flip that switch, and taking a plug out of an outlet is literally just as easy as hitting a switch. Switches on outlets are nothing other than a mild convenience at best.
If you are going to do this, maybe setting up a pressurized air line to a grid of holes under the belt where you are stepping might allow you to create an effect like an air hockey table to reduce the friction of the belt on the pad under your foot, if you manage the hole placement well you should be able to lower the friction of the belt on the pad even better than lube and reduce the motor load even more. If there is no fan for the compartment with the motor and electronics it might be worth installing a fan to feed the motor fresh air, but lowering the motor load is probably the best solution

😂😂😂
But you LEARNED. Can't say that about a large percentage of folks I've seen servicing electronics...
Yeah, it's always better to disconnect the plug. They should add a bipolar switch, as in most of the world the connector is reversible and phase can be on any of the two wires, but that adds cost.
The amazing thing is that you actually survived getting zapped with 240 volts!
19:38 LMAO 🤣! The look on his face that he cropped on the woman's body literally made me LOL!

This scared me. How could I know this was coming? It's just headphones. Everything this man holds becomes dangerous.😅
@@Renee_R343 I talked about the headphones, not the threadmill. But still.
weird electric phenomena like that make me gain sympathy for all the Victorian era people who thought their stuff was haunted

WTF! 10:10 part jumpscared me! I NEVER got jumpscared in my life
10:10 bro got knocked back like an anime character lmaoo
In 2015 my job became obsolete at aged 65. Over the next few months I acquired half a dozen free treadmills and dismantled them for the Motors primarily. All of my free treadmills were better than your Amazon one. All of them had a thermocouple of some sort in line with one of the motor leads. Maybe try marketplace. I am in Victoria BC so your market for free treadmills will probably be about the same.
13:30 why did i expect him to sing "please respond or i'll get rid of you" from the broken laptop video

Yeah, it made me jump too. 😂
Yes i got jumpscared
Black is live? That's wild! In most codes that use black at all, black is neutral....
I just *knew* there'd be a jump scare with the way the it was presented but still got me haha

Wow i cant believe you know who dr mike 5:32
Impressive persistence.
I started walking at least 3km a day a couple of months ago. Like you, I lost about 2.5kg within a month but have hit a plateau at 84kg now. I'm pretty sure it's brought my blood pressure down.
My sports shoes were causing a static build-up on the treadmill too, so now I wear my work boots until I can afford different shoes. I had a different pair of sports shoes a few years ago that didn't do it so it's something in those particular shoes.
I was jogging too but now my knees and/or ankles let go within 10 minutes if I do that.
Walking is the most underrated exercise. I recently moved jobs and have the luxury of walking to work everyday and definitly seen the improvements
14:31 doing giveaways of your broken junk would actually be awesome
I think he doesn't want to give a broken treadmill that smells like urine to his one loyal viewers.
I would've cut some holes in the plastic housing behind the motor and added a 12V PC case fan to cool the motor off.
4:00 its so funny how he just gets shocked and just falls, its even more funny that its normal
I wanna talk to you private
im worried but yes that happens
Yesterday I walked 4h while doing frontend work and today I'm 3h in and walking while I type this lol
I love it so far. I'll keep updating the comment :)
Thank you for encouraging me to get healthier.
How is it going so far?
@jenniferh9505 I used it daily for around 4-5h for about 3 weeks and now i’m down to 2-3h about 3-4 days a week. It is fun to use, specially during repetitive tasks where i’m just listening to music and not thinking much.
When I need to focus a bit more I usually sit down because I noticed I sometimes turn off my brain and just stare at the screen for a minute because i’m enjoying walking itself lol
The treadmill still works fine.
The band is a great idea, I've just resorted to always having a hand on the table - great when the belt slips but annoying.

the amount of regular maintenance in this video has taught me that everyone I know who says they "use them daily" are absolutely not using them daily.
13:45 I love the dad vibes there :D
That was great, Mehdi!!! I love the idea, i'm not very active myself and am an introvert as well!

3:59 That moment we’ve all been waiting for 😂
Excellent video, as usual. Except ground, obviously.
in that case, the switch is meant to be double pole.
19:28 ksi laugh caught me off gaurd
Broooo 😂😂😂😂
4:05 I LEGIT thought there was a cut here 😂
Thanks for the video. I have a treadmill in the attic (for my wife) that I've never used before. I managed to do a poor man's job of attaching a screen to it and placing a keyboard and mouse.
Have been working while walking yesterday and today with pleasure, though am noticing that I'm not just to covering these kind of distances :)
After this epic journey (self experiment) it would be nice if you asked a manufacturer to collaborate with you and invent the treadmill of the future!

Thanks a lot for this! I also have cats so I'd look for something that maybe has filters to make sure things keep clean as much as possible. This has at least informed me a bit more in my decision. Much appreciated video!
14:57 I HAVE THE SAME RULER! :D
12:13 and thats exactly why having switched outlets is far superior to NA non switched outlets.
Hitting a switch is no easier than unplugging
8:29 the commutator looks weird, I've never seen one that wasn't copper, maybe it was just the light
I’m just glad you’re healthy mehdi, love ur content ❤
