What a very brief but busy fort! It saw a ton of people in its prime, but I am glad, like he said, now that its forgotten, the area has almost gone back to how it was in the beginning. You can't say that very much.
Yes, sometimes nature is permanently scarred, but often it has a way to reclaim what was originally there. Still, would have been cool to see that fort in its prime! Hope all is well, Josh!
Love how the ranger talks...very knowledgeable and seems to love his job
Yes, great observation. This man was exceptional!
That Park Ranger cracks me up! Also, what an entirely unsung park that I will be visiting soon!
Yeah...he was great! I'd say it was worth the stop. Neat thing about these small parks is you basically have the place to yourself.
The park ranger was really awesome! I like his closer about almost getting the same View and quiet as back then. Thanks for sharing
He was indeed exceptional! And that ending speech was a masterpiece in communication. Thanks for the comment and have a blessed weekend!
@@AmericasParks you as well sir!
Thanks. I had never heard of Fort Union. I appreciate the history lesson.
Wonderful! Fascinating place in US history!
Beautiful. The Ranger seemed very knowledgable and the presentation sounded great :)
Yes, he was exceptional!
Yet another one I knew little of, but must now add to my list. Thanks for continuing my/our education. I hope that ranger is still there when we make it.
Thanks, Jonathan! Yeah, quite a few comments expressing their admiration of that Ranger!
I stopped there last spring and it was great. It’s literally in the middle of nowhere, which is great because you get it all to yourself. The western forts are a gem of NPS
Right on! So cool to hear of others that appreciate the historical sites of the Park Service. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your week!
What a fabulous ranger! So great when you come across one that clearly love his or her job!
Yes, many have commented on his work. Rarely do I get disappointed with a Ranger's presentation. His was exceptional.
I been going to Fort Union since I was 8 I remember there where more walls it’s a shame a lot has changed but I do admire how you all that work at Fort Union trying to preserve as much of the fort as much as possible I give you all high respect. Thank you for working hard for the future to come with Fort Union
Really well-said, John! The history and the folks there were fantastic!
Been there. I enjoyed the Ranger talk. We didn't have a Ranger guided tour. Thanks 😊. There was a Civil War battle there. A group from Texas attacked, won the battle and while the confederates were celebrating their victory, the north captured their supplies and then they had to retreat back to Texas.
Yeah, that Ranger did an outstanding job! Nice to hear you know your history and have been to this one!
Very nice place and beautiful view!
Thanks for your upload dear.
Fort Union National Monument is so great.
Big Like 79.
Have a happy Sunday...👍👍
Thank you very much! Hope you are enjoying your weekend, my friend!
Great job on this. I visited the fort in 1999 and was nostalgic to see it again and found your video. I learned more about it from your presentation. The 2 things you had in your video really reminded me of the fort.. The jail and the storm clouds... Pouring one minute, sunny the next. NE NM is beautiful, isn't it?
That was neat to read, Eugene! Thanks for watching and sharing your memories!
really interesting site/ amazing how busy it once was. Crazy how nice the officers have it huh! imported bricks wow. Wild we had these huge outposts mainly for protecting travelers back then. So Cool we get the full Ranger Tour here, fantastic video thanks for taking us along.
Thanks, Thorn! Some fascinating history and yes, that Ranger was indeed exceptional! Have a great day!
Randy, I agree with you and Kayla, so nice to visit sites that you have to yourselves. and to think, like you said, at one time - hundreds of pioneers traveled through there each day, long ago. Love that the ranger let you video his lesson. Excellent! THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US, . . . Mike
So many have commented about the excellent presentation he gave us that day!
What an awesome experience to get some one on one time with a park ranger like that! Such an amazing place to learn about!
Yes, and he was indeed wonderful. Masterful with his facts, passion and articulation. Enjoy your weekend!
Great video. I really like it when the park rangers are engaged and care about the history. Bucket listed added to
Good call! Most are really good. This man was exceptional. God bless!
It's cool when you zoom in from the larger US map. I like having perspective on where you are and why.
Thanks, Julie! Took me a little while to figure that one out. :)
Thanks for all the videos! You've really inspired me to make more trips to some national parks/monuments! Would love for you to come up to Oregon and do a video on Crater Lake national park, Smith Rock state park, and the Columbia River Gorge! I've lived in the PNW for my entire life and it is one of the most scenic and beautiful places in the world! Keep up the amazing videos :)
Hey Spencer, enjoyed your kind words of encouragement and hospitality! Oregon is indeed an amazing state filled with tremendous beauty. Unfortunately much of it I have only observed in pictures. Definitely on the bucket list to get up there. Hopefully in the near future! We did make it to Crater Lake in 2017 - check out my Oregon "playlist." The place was packed, but it was 4th of July weekend. Take care!
The ranger is amazing!!!!
Right on, Nick! Great observation!
Very educational and interesting, thanks Randy and Kayla! Amazing how much change the troops stationed there must have seen during the evolution of the West.
Good point! Memorable US history was unfolding by the day. Hope all is well. Thanks for joining us!
Definitely a cool place to visit! That park ranger was really good at telling the history of this place and I see why you kept the camera on him a lot. He would be a good speaker for a history documentary or something. Really cool shots of the rain moving in. Nice work Randy!
Thanks, Eric! The Ranger was one of the best I've experienced - and all of them are normally excellent. Take care, my friend!
That was interesting. Seemed like you got a pretty good tour guide!
Rarely do the Rangers disappoint, but he was indeed fantastic! Enjoy your weekend!
The guide reminds me of Wayne Newton. Excellent episode!
:) He was exceptional!
Hello America's Park's! Having not known of Fort Union I was thrilled with the history behind it and it's role along the Santa Fe Trail. Great Job Randy! Really looking forward to the next video footage of America's Parks!
Thanks so much, Al!
Fascinating history. That guy did a great job. Super good video.
Right on - he was indeed superb in his presentation!
Give that Ranger a raise.
Right on, Corey! Many, like you, have commented on that man's presentation and temperament!
I was there in 1968. It has really changed.
Wow, 1968... nice to know you have fond memories of your visit! Thanks for joining us!
Very informative tour guide/park ranger. Really cool once again Randy and crew!
Appreciate that, Ed! Yeah, many comments below on the ranger's excellence. Have a blessed weekend!
wow this is beautiful :) this is so interesting
Thank you so much for your kind words! Happy to hear you found the video enjoyable!
@@AmericasParks you're welcome 😊👍

That's a lot of people per cell! 😯
You are not kidding! :) 5 guys and a bucket. Good deterrent to behave!
Excellent, thank you.
Appreciate that! Have a super weekend!
Nice job on this one( again) ) Randy. Really cool looking site and the expansive area around it looks beautiful. Loving this New Mexico series of clips!
Also,,,,Heading out tomorrow for Nevada... my 1st clip of 2020 coming soon.
Another one to add to your list!
@@RobertLWard Enjoy and be safe! Always look forward to your videos!
Great video! Thanks
Appreciate that, Bruce!
Good history!!
Right on - fascinating stuff! Had a great tour guide on this one!
I’m glad we didn’t see any snakes during our stay!
No "slithering friends" in the jail cells!
Thank you, very interesting in hearing some of the history and context of this fort from the Southwest American past.
My pleasure, Mark! Thanks for the comment!
the starfort ruins look far older. The spanish were using this type of fortification as I see on very old maps of the states . I dont think the union soldiers made this. I have taken a overhead photo of this and laid it into autocad and measured the accuracy of the angles, and it is absolutely perfect. Why would Union soldiers take the time to survey this fort so perfectly?
What do you think about some of the 14ers in Colorado?
Been focusing on the National Parks, but have heard they are incredible hikes!
Definently a trouble maker 🤪
haha! Thanks for watching and have a great week!
