Sanitized cephalopods do not respawn So if tarter successfully sanitized the entire earth, two things would happen 1: inklings would end up making themselves extinct, Octolings go into hiding from primal instinct 2: Inklings drive ALL cephalopods extinct Secret third option: The sanitized ooze fucks up the salmonids and THEY kill the cephalopods (Which makes sense since the sanitized ooze basically waters u down to primal instinct, which for Inklings is fighting for territory, octolings is order and obedience, salmonoid is “bang this small child over the head with a frying pan”)

The whole irony is that the reason he cites for the current lifeforms not being worthy is that they fight in pathetic squabbles over turf, but the implication is that, that is exactly why the humans (which tartar views as supreme) got wiped out in the first place.
One of my favorite pieces of characterization for Agent 8 is in the credits for Octo Expansion. The clouds clear, and they see the sun for the first time in a long time. Everyone else is still looking at the credits but you can tell 8 is in complete awe with their mannerisms alone. It’s beautiful symbolism for how far they went to escape the metro and the bright days to come in their future.
i adore agent 8, and im pretty sure there’s an in universe reason to them being silent, inklings and octolings speak different languages, so agent 8 likely didn’t speak inkling

Dude, I started tearing up watching your retelling of Octo Expansion. Part of it was nostalgia, another is realizing how different Eight's life changed from living underground their whole life. I never realized the first screen you see after beating OE was Eight's first introduction to inkling society and their whole awestruck innocence is just so heartwarming
I think it’s important to note that in Splatoon 3 outside of Side Order, you’re always playing as the main campaign’s protagonist, a whole different character that can be either Inkling or Octoling that’s using the title of Agent 3 after the old one was promoted to Captain following the events of Octo Expansion. So Iso Padre (and also Pearl and Marina) don’t recognise you because you’re literally a different person, not just figuratively like with Eight. Aside from that and some other errors like mispronounced names, wrong pronouns and it being the New Squidbeak Splatoon instead of the New Squidbeak Brigade, this is a good video and a nice refreshing insight into Eight’s story after it being so long since my playthroughs of Octo Expansion and Side Order. Keep at it man!
One neat thing i noticed while playing side order is that Acht is consistently and always referred to with they/them pronouns in-game, implying that they're nonbinary! Pearl and Marina are also heavily implied to be in a relationship. The extra details in the splatoon world are so cool. Awesome video!!
Here's the thing and I'm not into the pronoun game (or the gender game for that matter) so just take my thought as just making a theory: Acht in Splatoon 2 was referred as a girl and was using the her/she pronoun in that ganr. I am assume getting sanitized got rid of what made her a female and made her non binary, thus the used of the they pronoun in Splatoon 3. Either that or the dev took advantage that it was referred as a she in the last game promotional material only.
honestly I think the whole "eight can somehow resist grayscaling" thing is tied to how the story interacts with their mind, like getting amnesia twice + the memcakes and chips + probably something else I forgot this is probably a really bad comparison but I've been playing ff5 recently and I think it's sort of similar to the scene with galuf and siren, being able to resist not only because there's not much mind left to corrupt in the first place but also because what there IS is so purely convicted and focused that not even the end of everything will stop them from fighting for it
Great video! Only nitpick is that octarians were NOT brainwashed, Octavio's music simply motivated them to march to the beat and stay in line, literally and metaphorically. The calamari inkantation simply motivated them to break from the chains of octarian society and go search for the surface.

This video made me laugh, cry, and reminisce on my life. Octo Expansion came out almost 7 years ago, when I was 12. I was neck deep into Splatoon 2, as I had gotten it as a Christmas present a little more than 5 months after the games initial release. Eventually my Switch (and S2 inside of it) got pawned by my drug addict father in mid 2019, and I never got to play Splatoon 2 again. I never got to play OE, or experiences Eight’s story, or get to play as an Octoling, until September of 2022 when Splatoon 3 released. I held almost the same exact love I had for S2 for S3,, but it was different. And then. Side Order was announced, and I pre ordered it immediately. Experiencing it was so nice but, I felt lost. Never experiencing or knowing Eight’s initial introduction left me longing for understanding of why everyone praised SO so much, until this video. And now I understand it, and now I cry. I love Eight’s story so much. Thank you for making this video

I feel like they knew they wanted to add a rougelike, but it's difficult to add story to something like that. Still gave me similar goosebumps to 2's end cutscenes. Can't complain too much.
I don't believe they lost memories from brainwashing, but the phone dude apparently is the one stealing memories. The octopus guy is apparently pretty chill to his subordinates, and besides propaganda, he doesn't use any mind control or memory manipulation. Also, order was apparently created by the doubt in the hearts of the octopus people game devs making the game.
okay, if you want a really cool silent protagonist, you should take a look at the indie action-rpg crosscode!! the MC is mute besides very, very few exceptions through the game, uses sign language sometimes, and honestly the game is just sick too. fun combat, tough puzzles.. and it's dirt cheap in the steam sale, so if you can, i'd recommend it! i think they make one of if not the most compelling silent protag i can think of. it doesn't harm her ability to be a strong character in the slightest.

As someone that likes the other parts of the game, it's a huge buzz kill for me to run around the Splatoon 3 hub world and NO ONE will interact with me because I can't really justify buying online for one game every once in awhile.
You know what I hated about Nintendo doing DLC initially. When you are forced to progress through the game before you can even start purchasing the DLC.

Honestly it's videos like this that keep making me believe that Nintendo should just come up with something new in the future games instead of recycling 8, Pearl and Marina again. Because I really like these characters and seeing them just shafted twice in a row for DLC-only story modes is an extremely missed opportunity. I mean, come on, there's so much that could've been done for the idol duo in 2 so that they could appear in the story mode, and Nintendo just... didn't do anything. r/splatoon really didn't seem to like this take of mine though

This might just be me being stupid but I think for Nintendo online active users they should be able to download some games like Splatoon 3 or Switch Sports but with partial access. Practically just a demo, like only turf war not even private or offline because Nintendo and a couple basic weapons and no lockers or tag customization but one item from a shop to purchases day with the coins you earn from playing. Something like that would be amazing along side having turf war open during Splatfests possibly available to Switch Online users too. This could gain more players and give more reason to purchase online if they give partial access games rather than game trails or they could do both. Just want to know other ppls thoughts on this idea.
It's a pretty good idea. I think if Splatoon and Nintendo switchboards for more supported by cosmetics (something like Overwatch, Valorant, Apex) they could probably make that money back no problem.

If you access DLCs through the Nintendo Online Expansion Pack, you can only access them as long as your subscription is valid and you are online. If you own it there are no caveats to accessing it and you can legally use that data outside of the original console for emulation.
I've been hoping they do the "alright, you guys can have the combo pack with dlc" at some point for Splatoon but I don't think we'd see that for a few years.

Shiver is also nonbinary! Nate Bihldorff at Nintendo OF AMERICA said they're a woman with she/her pronouns, but he was behind the censoring of Vivian's transgender identity in Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. If he is saying Shiver isn't nonbinary it's because he says Vivian is not transgender, despite the fact Vivian is 100000% a trans woman. Lots of people are saying "Nintendo confirmed Shiver is a she/her woman" without actually checking the facts. Nate Bihldorff had nothing to do with the creation of the game and character or decisions about Shiver's gender ID. Nintendo of Japan will not confirm. I thinks it's pretty difficult to make a roguelike fresh Everytime like that. After I 100% all the pallettes, I was very bored of the level design, but it does help knowing them gameplaywise so I know what encounter I can handle at each given floor.
Im the biggest fan of splatoon. But i hate octo expansion with a passion. Side order i expected to be worse, but it was just an excuse to put more campaign gameplay in the game and considering it cannon is a waste of time. Love agent 8. And SHE is a she🙂
I really mismanaged pronouns with this vid. I wanted to keep agent 8 relatively gender nuetral since you can play as either a boy or a girl in the games, but that backfired. It seems like most played 8 as a girl, and she's a girl in most of the marketing. That, and I didn't realize Acht went non-binary for Side Order. It seems like a lot of people are very adamant about getting that detail right.
At the final fight with Marina and Acht if you hear closely a reference to the final fest. While yes they speak gibberish. You can faintly hear Chaos and Order
One lil nitpick, but the octarians/octolings aren’t really brainwashed. At least not in a literal sense. The octarian soldiers all have free will. The Inkantation simply allowed those who hear it to be deeply invigorated and willing to break free from the structure of octarian society.

I think it's really cool how Eight is a silent protag but far from a blank slate. She's definitely the most developed out of all the player characters in Splatoon. Agent 4 from the Splatoon 2 base story has a little bit of background and small bits of personality as well. Though it's mostly found outside of the game. For example she doesn't really watch TV or use the internet much judging by the fact she didn't know who the Squid Sisters were despite their insane fame. She spends a lot of her time participating in extracurricular activities. She's also depicted smiling in a lot of artwork. @crinklyonion1410 Considering that each of the Agents (3, 4, 8, Neo 3) is a character you play as in the trilogy, I honestly understand and support this. Yes, 3 and 8 have gotten a lot of screen time and have more established canon personalities, I think the gates are still wide open for players to have their own unique interpretations of 4 and Neo 3. For me, personally, I kinda enjoyed crafting 2 unique Splatoon 3 characters- The Inkling girl becomes Neo 3 and is the story mode Hero, while the Octoling Girl I normally play as is the Inkling's partner/roommate and spends most of her time helping out in Grizzco shifts.
I wouldn't be surprised if "4 not knowing Marie" also had a meta angle to it. Like... few people had a Wii U and played the 1st game (even less played the Story Mode, I imagine), so most people playing Splatoon 2 wouldn't know the Squid Sisters either.
I loved this video, being a long time splatoon fan (first days of the first game) and eight lover. I always thought that OE did a much better job on the story out of the DLCs, but side order just made me love the characters, the music, the game itself, even more.
The way that the Inkantation works that I like the best is more that the Octolings were fed all of their anti-inkling propaganda so much that they could not fathom that Inklings could be as good, talented, smart, or creative as they were and that they deserved everything that the Inklings "stole" from them. However, when the Inkantation is played by the Squid Sisters, it breaks this brainwashing and makes the Octolings consider that the Inklings are not all that bad like Octavio is saying. This is probably why DJ Octavio is commonly said to not be that bad by Octolings who've served under him because DJ Octavio genuinely wants his people to survive. Still, the way he goes about doing it is to create a culture so monolithic yet apparently progressive that as it progresses forward, it continues to progress against the Inklings, meaning that whether Octavio likes it or not, the second he loses the Inklings, his society will crumble. Octavio is building his entire society on nothing more than a house of cards to keep them all above the water, but the second his house crumbles, he will have no choice but to surrender his entire society all over again to the Inklings and start fighting against them over and over and over again, for all of eternity. If he kills the Inklings, however, A) He will have to kill a lot of Octolings in the process, B) That will take a lot of resources and Octarians to fight a full-on war against the Inklings, and C) What will happen after he wins is that he won't have another society to fall back on in case his stagnates. DJ Octavio would tactically be a fool to continue his charade, but culturally and politically? I can see why he has to keep up his tough-guy attitude, he's gone way too far into what he's been doing and now cannot go back. However, I can see how Mr. Grizz could be the perfect excuse for Octavio to be like "My fellow people, the Inklings were once bad, but I have seen an even worse threat and have heard news that there could be more threats like them. I would like to hereby declare that a special team be formed to find these other threats, and cooperate with the Squid Agents or manipulate should the need and opportunity arise. That is all." Or maybe he'll genuinely surrender or he'll double down, personally, I hope that DJ Octavio finally buries the hatchet. Cap'n Cuttlefish is already retired and really old, maybe it is time DJ Octavio also retires. Maybe we could have a prequel spin-off for DJ Octavio and Cuttlefish, but for now, that'll just remain a hope.
The reason iso padre doesn’t wave to the player is because it is impossible to play as 8 outside of side order in splat3. Because in side order 8 is 19 I believe and around the same height as marina. You play as neo 3 everywhere else

I feel like they knew they wanted to add a rougelike, but it's difficult to add story to something like that. Still gave me similar goosebumps to 2's end cutscenes. Can't complain too much.
I don't believe they lost memories from brainwashing, but the phone dude apparently is the one stealing memories. The octopus guy is apparently pretty chill to his subordinates, and besides propaganda, he doesn't use any mind control or memory manipulation.
Also, order was apparently created by the doubt in the hearts of the octopus people game devs making the game.
okay, if you want a really cool silent protagonist, you should take a look at the indie action-rpg crosscode!! the MC is mute besides very, very few exceptions through the game, uses sign language sometimes, and honestly the game is just sick too. fun combat, tough puzzles.. and it's dirt cheap in the steam sale, so if you can, i'd recommend it! i think they make one of if not the most compelling silent protag i can think of. it doesn't harm her ability to be a strong character in the slightest.
If Nintendo decides to continue the splatoon story. I hope they do more with Eight’s story. I really do like their storyline in the splatoon series.

Made it really annoying to purchase and download DLC before the eShop shutdown. Nintendo made it difficult for you to give them money.

Honestly it's videos like this that keep making me believe that Nintendo should just come up with something new in the future games instead of recycling 8, Pearl and Marina again. Because I really like these characters and seeing them just shafted twice in a row for DLC-only story modes is an extremely missed opportunity. I mean, come on, there's so much that could've been done for the idol duo in 2 so that they could appear in the story mode, and Nintendo just... didn't do anything.

This might just be me being stupid but I think for Nintendo online active users they should be able to download some games like Splatoon 3 or Switch Sports but with partial access. Practically just a demo, like only turf war not even private or offline because Nintendo and a couple basic weapons and no lockers or tag customization but one item from a shop to purchases day with the coins you earn from playing. Something like that would be amazing along side having turf war open during Splatfests possibly available to Switch Online users too. This could gain more players and give more reason to purchase online if they give partial access games rather than game trails or they could do both. Just want to know other ppls thoughts on this idea.
It's a pretty good idea. I think if Splatoon and Nintendo switchboards for more supported by cosmetics (something like Overwatch, Valorant, Apex) they could probably make that money back no problem.

If you access DLCs through the Nintendo Online Expansion Pack, you can only access them as long as your subscription is valid and you are online. If you own it there are no caveats to accessing it and you can legally use that data outside of the original console for emulation.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this to you, but Acht's pronouns are they/them! The game never calls them by she/her/hers at all, and in fact explicitly say "they/them" when referring to them. Shiver is also nonbinary! Nate Bihldorff at Nintendo OF AMERICA said they're a woman with she/her pronouns, but he was behind the censoring of Vivian's transgender identity in Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. If he is saying Shiver isn't nonbinary it's because he says Vivian is not transgender, despite the fact Vivian is 100000% a trans woman. Lots of people are saying "Nintendo confirmed Shiver is a she/her woman" without actually checking the facts. Nate Bihldorff had nothing to do with the creation of the game and character or decisions about Shiver's gender ID. Nintendo of Japan will not confirm. In Japanese, EVERY pronoun is used for him/her/them.

I thinks it's pretty difficult to make a roguelike fresh Everytime like that. After I 100% all the pallettes, I was very bored of the level design, but it does help knowing them gameplaywise so I know what encounter I can handle at each given floor.
Im the biggest fan of splatoon. But i hate octo expansion with a passion. Side order i expected to be worse, but it was just an excuse to put more campaign gameplay in the game and considering it cannon is a waste of time. Love agent 8. And SHE is a she🙂
I really mismanaged pronouns with this vid. I wanted to keep agent 8 relatively gender nuetral since you can play as either a boy or a girl in the games, but that backfired. It seems like most played 8 as a girl, and she's a girl in most of the marketing. That, and I didn't realize Acht went non-binary for Side Order. It seems like a lot of people are very adamant about getting that detail right.

One lil nitpick, but the octarians/octolings aren’t really brainwashed. At least not in a literal sense. The octarian soldiers all have free will. The Inkantation simply allowed those who hear it to be deeply invigorated and willing to break free from the structure of octarian society.
One thing that is known is that the sunken NILS statue can be found on the splatoon 3 version of hammerhead bridge

I think it's really cool how Eight is a silent protag but far from a blank slate. She's definitely the most developed out of all the player characters in Splatoon. Agent 4 from the Splatoon 2 base story has a little bit of background and small bits of personality as well. Though it's mostly found outside of the game. For example she doesn't really watch TV or use the internet much judging by the fact she didn't know who the Squid Sisters were despite their insane fame. She spends a lot of her time participating in extracurricular activities. She's also depicted smiling in a lot of artwork. @crinklyonion1410 Considering that each of the Agents (3, 4, 8, Neo 3) is a character you play as in the trilogy, I honestly understand and support this. Yes, 3 and 8 have gotten a lot of screen time and have more established canon personalities, I think the gates are still wide open for players to have their own unique interpretations of 4 and Neo 3.
For me, personally, I kinda enjoyed crafting 2 unique Splatoon 3 characters- The Inkling girl becomes Neo 3 and is the story mode Hero, while the Octoling Girl I normally play as is the Inkling's partner/roommate and spends most of her time helping out in Grizzco shifts.
I wouldn't be surprised if "4 not knowing Marie" also had a meta angle to it.
Like... few people had a Wii U and played the 1st game (even less played the Story Mode, I imagine),
so most people playing Splatoon 2 wouldn't know the Squid Sisters either.

The way that the Inkantation works that I like the best is more that the Octolings were fed all of their anti-inkling propaganda so much that they could not fathom that Inklings could be as good, talented, smart, or creative as they were and that they deserved everything that the Inklings "stole" from them. However, when the Inkantation is played by the Squid Sisters, it breaks this brainwashing and makes the Octolings consider that the Inklings are not all that bad like Octavio is saying.
This is probably why DJ Octavio is commonly said to not be that bad by Octolings who've served under him because DJ Octavio genuinely wants his people to survive. Still, the way he goes about doing it is to create a culture so monolithic yet apparently progressive that as it progresses forward, it continues to progress against the Inklings, meaning that whether Octavio likes it or not, the second he loses the Inklings, his society will crumble. Octavio is building his entire society on nothing more than a house of cards to keep them all above the water, but the second his house crumbles, he will have no choice but to surrender his entire society all over again to the Inklings and start fighting against them over and over and over again, for all of eternity. If he kills the Inklings, however, A) He will have to kill a lot of Octolings in the process, B) That will take a lot of resources and Octarians to fight a full-on war against the Inklings, and C) What will happen after he wins is that he won't have another society to fall back on in case his stagnates. DJ Octavio would tactically be a fool to continue his charade, but culturally and politically? I can see why he has to keep up his tough-guy attitude, he's gone way too far into what he's been doing and now cannot go back. However, I can see how Mr. Grizz could be the perfect excuse for Octavio to be like "My fellow people, the Inklings were once bad, but I have seen an even worse threat and have heard news that there could be more threats like them. I would like to hereby declare that a special team be formed to find these other threats, and cooperate with the Squid Agents or manipulate should the need and opportunity arise. That is all."
Or maybe he'll genuinely surrender or he'll double down, personally, I hope that DJ Octavio finally buries the hatchet. Cap'n Cuttlefish is already retired and really old, maybe it is time DJ Octavio also retires. Maybe we could have a prequel spin-off for DJ Octavio and Cuttlefish, but for now, that'll just remain a hope.

The reason iso padre doesn’t wave to the player is because it is impossible to play as 8 outside of side order in splat3. Because in side order 8 is 19 I believe and around the same height as marina. You play as neo 3 everywhere else
