It's a great overall lens expecially about optics: the only downside to me the lens hood (easy to detach with accidental button push) and the very tiny tripod mount (too much for handheld shooting! 50-140 has a bigger plate) :)
I bought this third party tripod mount on Amazon "iShoot Lens Collar Base Tripod Mount Ring Foot Stand for Fujifilm Fujinon XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens 16501109, Built-in 65mm Quick Release Plate Tripod Ball Head of Arca-Swiss ". You should give it a try. Its much better than the original Fuji one.
@@abhizis nice, but it still doesn't help on handheld shooting again (large and short) :( why not use a regular decent tripod on this lens Fuji.. 50.140 has a bigger one but not compatibile in size for the screws iirc.

I believe that some time ago I mentioned to you that I got this lens, it’s great, a little heavy as you said, but it’s to be expected. I recently took the XF 100-400 on a safari (to the Miami Zoo, hahaha) and I got much better than expected results, I’m extremely satisfied with the image quality in every aspect.
Nice photos. I like the moon photo. Would love to live in a place like that. Better yet in a light house way out from the rest population would be my dream home. Lol I grew up and spent my whole life living 2 steps from the beach but in California so a little different weather. Probably much better sea food where you are. Good lens review. I just ordered the xt4. I wonder if the OIS on that lens and the ibis work together? I haven’t researched that yet but if so that would make hand holding that even easier.
Thanks Scrolex! Good luck with the X-T4 it looks to be a really nice camera. The camera and the lens will talk together so the OIS and the IBIS will work off each other for different things.
i just tested this setup yesterday. ibis/ois work together only for certain axises, not all. That said theresult is very very good - only panasonic is better for stabilization IMO. it "feels" 50% better than my sony 100-400 regarding stabilization. (the sony setup has other advantages, mainly better IQ and A/F - the fuji is also cheaper and significantly lighter - i'd be happy with either)
I'm so glad I found this video. I ordered a used one and have been having second thoughts about the price/performance. QuestionI plan to use it on my XH-1. Would its in body stabilization be additive to the lens' stabilization? Is there anything wrong with using both stabilization systems at the same time? BTW I loved the photos, especially the photos of the waves! Finally, what do you think of this lens vs. the 70-300mm performance wise?
Bill - this lens is a terrific lens. The XH1 and the lens work beautifully together. The stabilization systems work together well. I have both lenses. Take a look at the comparison video I did and you will see that the image results are very close.

It is so surprising that you found little difference in the picture quality given the price difference. I'm wondering the the bottom is going to drop out of the used price of the 100-400mm in competition with the 70-300mm? Now if only I could find the 70-300mm in stock. This supply chain/transport issue is making it difficult on so many levels beyond photography for people who need essentials. So, I'm really not complaining. That said photography IMHO is therapeutic during these difficult times caused by COVID.

Hello, i just watched your very interesting video. I would like to know if you could put RAW files of the XT-4 with this 100-400mm lens and other Fujifilm lenses if you have, putting these files for download would allow me to see the quality on my computer because it is a case that I really hesitate to buy and I would like not to be wrong since it is a little expensive. I am an amateur photographer oriented towards landscape photography. I hope my message is understandable sorry for my english. I make this request a bit special because the photo stores are closed because of Covid

Jorg I am mistaken. This is my X-T3 in this video. I have the short eyepiece on it. Sorry to get things mixed up. I have the long eyepiece on the x-h1 I have. Here in the US the long eye piece comes with the x-t3 but mine fell off so I bought the short version which stays on better.
I guess you missed the brass inserts inside where the screws go into. Never ever had a problem and use this lens a lot for sports where it sees some abuse.

Mike, yes the smaller tripod mount than the 50-140 seems very strange to me. The hood not so much I have not had any issues yet.

Jorg - It's the eyepiece that comes with the camera. It's the long version not the short version.
Kirk Williamson OK. At the German is only a short eyepiece. I ask Amazon:-)

Only 3 tiny screws screwed into plastic holding heavy front elements . VERY cheap quality, Disappointing
