  • Go behind the scenes and see how the VOR Boatyard strip down and re-builds their fleet of multi-million dollar, carbon racing machines.
Each boat has taken 6,000 man hours to refit during which time over 750 parts have been removed, serviced and refitted
By the time the last boat was launched, the Lisbon Boatyard had clocked up a total 42,000 man hours, ready for another lap of the planet.

I’m grinning ear to ear. I did it all for over 55 seasons until my health stopped me. Now I watch and compare the twelve meters I was around in the 1970’s to the new AC-75. I remember when the record for the pond was held by the schooner Atlantic. Sailing is one of the highest applications of the human mind in unproductive activity. I love it dearly. But, alas all our names are writ in water.

This is a well produced, well researched, and very interesting show, which seems much better put together than the offerings by Volvo Ocean Race itself. The cost of fielding these boats has been a major impediment to more participation in the race, I think, and the attempt at making the fleet uniform has been a big part of trying to reduce the cost of sponsoring a team.

Thanks for your feedback and glad you liked it, we enjoyed visiting the yard and seeing the detail that goes into these boats. This is a unique class as no one else can claim such precise one designs at this scale - an impressive achievement.

I would like to know why all workers and sailors are from UK if Mapfre is from Spain? XD

I like the idea of sailing along sometimes at great speed but racing would leave no time for drinking, eating and grabbing my girlfriend. I prefer French golf.
