The Backpack is supposed to be used with a special jacket it is mounted to, I think. So the jacket gets to be the load bearing side of the backpack ;-) Swiss efficiency! The mess kit is very similar to our German one, indeed.
You are correct! Now that you mention it, they had an all in one uniform. Somebody else here said the Swiss, German and Finnish mess kit are all the same. Maybe from the same factory? Do you know anything about that? Thank you
@@OliveDrabAlliance I was ...allowed...to use the German one extensively. And I bought the Swedish version which is similar, but has additionally a Trangia (we had Esbit) cooker, a bottle for the spirits (to use with the cooker..allegedly)-if you see three crowns (tre cronor) stamped in it is Swedish. German Stuff will have BUND stamped in. Swiss and Austrian equipment is frequently very similar. The Austrian pup tent is made the same way, but out of a synthetic, and much lighter material than the heavy one from Germany-which is much more resilient to sparks-but friggin heavy if you lug it around-in particular if it got wet... If you can try to get the German cutlery set. If wars would be fought with utensils we would win every confrontation hands down...sadly, we found out that is not the case, and got beaten several times ;-)
@RealMash that is awesome information. I've never seen the German cutlery.... but I don't know, the Yougoslavian cutlery I got with my yougoslavian mess kit is pretty dang stout! Cheers my friend
I’m glad to see I’m not the only person that has the military mess kit collecting disease!! Not that that’s a bad problem to have. I got one of the Swiss kits a few years ago and I love it. Just so happens mine came with two of the stove/windscreen and if I can dig it out I’ll be glad to send it to you for free, my have the original Trangea stoves to go with it. I’ll look for it this weekend. Enjoy your channel and especially the cooking stuff. I’ll see if I can figure out how to email you and get a address to send it your way. Keep up the good work. Cheers
No worries. Yes it is a sickness and I'm sure there is no cure. I've got it bad for mess kits and Coleman Stoves. You should see the pile of Stoves I have.
Check if your mess kit has three crowns on it-then it is the swedish one. We had no trangia (esbit) and no way to block the wind(wind was simply ordered to die down when we wnated to cook ;-) . A swedish one I have has those items. Very good kit, anyway. Diferent from the German one, the Swiss one was extremely similar to the German one I was issued.
Hello, you are lucky. The painting on mine indicated that it had lived, and I did not receive any ustenciles. I also bought there an Austrian mess kit. Your pouch attaches directly to the jacket-smock, and believe me, it's not well done. The smock is pretty heavy, made with heavy duty cotton. Also, it have lots of sewed metal clip on it. I have been shopping at this place for many years and I have never been disappointed. Note that you should never use the UPS service. They frequently have problems at the airport in Koln and packages arrive with significant delays.
Mine got delivered a couple days ahead if schedule. It must have been a good week at the airport. I could easily see this being delayed, but yes, I was lucky. Thanks for watching
Good Evening ! More gear for the OUTDOORS. Good Deal. I passed on 1 of the packs at thrift store Tuesday, it wasn't as crisp color as yours. TAKE CARE..
I have recently been blessed with an old mess kit, the type that looks like a US WWII mess kit-metal (probably stainless steel) frying pan, 2 sided “dish” fork, knife and spoon. Pretty cool! With that, I also have a stainless steel pot with lid, frying pan and large “cup” with lid. I use both kits, with the frying pan, alternating between the kits as I feel like it, on camp trips or road trips. I’ve considered getting a German or similar style kit, just to try it out, but I find the kits I have, suit my needs. I really don’t feel like spending money if I don’t need to. With the kit(s) you have, what kinds of meals would you cook in them? What would you prefer, as far as meals, if you have to hike or camp over several days away from home, due to say a local power outage or something that causes a mandatory evacuation, “temporary relocation” for about 7 days and nights, what would you bring to meet your needs?
I'm a big fan of bagged rice, just boil it for 10 minutes and go from there. Tomorrow my plan is to film a video with Swiss Mac n cheese in the Swiss mess kit. The sky is the limit and there is no reason it can be a high quality gourmet meal or something as simple as Ramen noodles. Thanks for watching and have fun out there
I was so excited to get this delivered today. I got my Trangia ready and all my ingredients, but I really want to use that Alpenflage pack and keep it Swiss themed. I'll figure it out soon enough. Thanks for watching & I've seen "just the stove" for sale here and there. Sometimes you gotta build it one piece at a time.
Hi.i like this video. I've got a Swiss army 1942 Gamelle thats what they call it. Its Gray in colour but no interior pot. As its such a early version. I do have the wee emergency stoves to fit inside. That Cammo is the Macaroni colour pattern. 👍👍
That is pretty cool. The older the better in most cases. If nothing else, think of the history and the adventures that has been on. I love military surplus, old boyscout gear and vintage gear because through the gear, there is a connection to adventures past and the stories these things could tell only add to our own. Thank you.
@@OliveDrabAlliance Aye great cook pot. Have used it on long stay out camp boating trips. The size gives great hot water uses on morning wash ups. Also its great volume capacity. To me this style of mess/cook kit is ideal. I prefer stainless steel myself but get what you can. You have a fry pan of sorts and a big pot. Throw a GI canteen cup inside and you really have all you need to cook just about anything.
Truth! I like to put as many of my ingredients as I can into it. It's like a game to see what will fit. I wish there was a canteen that fit into these like the old west German kits had. Thank you
They're shipping rates to USA are very reasonable, fast and tracking works well. Without the matching jacket, the backpack is pretty much useless unless it's modded. Condition of everything I've received from them has been correct or better than stated.
I'm thinking of attaching it to a backpack frame. I don't like that it is cotton, but it might turn out cool. I recently (2 months ago) watched a video on how the Alpenflace uniform was an all in one, uniform, pack and belt. I don't know why or how I didn't make the connection until somebody here pointed it out. Thanks for watching
@@OliveDrabAlliance I thought about turning one into a shoulder bag, as the cloth would be flexible and conform to the body.
