These are great facts which my Gurudev Pt. Bimalendu Mukherjee sahab told me. I was very fortunate to hear from him. I am so grateful my Guru bhai has told these great facts for the benifit of new generation.

Nice interview! But I didn't understand why Pandit ji said that Ustad Vilayat Khan got his instrument by luck. He actually worked on his sitar a lot and he knew precisely what to be done to get the sound he wanted. He got the _tabli_ to be made thicker because he knew it would increase the sustain of the sound. Also, closing the _jawari_ a bit gave his instrument the clear and singing tone instead of the buzzy sound with overtones (like Pt Ravi Shankar's sitar).
So, there was very little, if any, luck involved in Ustad Vilayat Khan getting the instrument he wanted.

despite all the surface level work and finetuning the soul was unique in that sitar. many have attempted but have not been able to produce same tone

@@sharanjeetmandexactly I think both could be true simultaneously. His meticulous design innovations brought together a truly special type of sitar with a special soul.

Remarkable sitar player, with speed his tan Kari just like pure mathamatics, and too much scientific.

My situation is also same. Would you like to suggest me from where I should purchase sitar having that tonal quality.
