I gotta say... as one who has traditionally resisted Phish because I thought the songs were mostly kinda lame (even though I've always rooted for them as "fellow travelers" and I don't bad-mouth them at all; they're just not my thing), and I really have tried at various times to listen to albums and watch shows that folks have passed my way through the years but have never been consistently impressed...this is the first Phish that's really knocked my socks off! (I was always in the "shut up 'n play yr guitar" camp with Zappa, too). So thanks for this, Phil Everson! You've opened my ears a little today.
@@Ck-zk3we it has certainly changed over the years. Trey has gone thru many eras, including Machine Gun Trey: early 90s speed shredding on meticulously orchestrated songs; Cow Funk: late '90s slow funk; Oxy jams: the oughts, heavy on the looper and repetitive droning jams. Lots of little changes over the years like Fish's kit and stage positioning, Trey used to play percussion on a few songs (two toms on a stand with accessories). Mike's sound has changed, Page's sound and synthesizer choices have changed. Add the fact that they have come up with a few different alter egos under which they have quickly created albums in different genres which has added a much broader range of sounds to turn to in jams and Page has a lot of samples from those cued up for random use. Finally, I think the other three band members are more comfortable than they've ever been now expressing themselves during jams and the amount of time they have played together has really improved their ability of giving each other space to do that, whereas before, Trey had a much firmer grip on the course of a show and the was less variety of input. One thing is for sure, they have continued to work hard on improving throughout their career and I think it's the reason that they are playing the most interesting jams of their career. I kinda feel the opposite about their more recent album work, but when the live shows are this good (and all available on high quality recordings), I could care less about what gets pressed.
Amazing how all of this fantastic jamming is in just one show. I like the way that you have the into of the song along with the jam. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I for one love cheese. I get extra every time on my Romeo’s extra large. Bring on the cheese and Treys jokes are not hilarious except to him but they are certainly phony and cheesy

Me too. I’m wondering if they have changed their sound a bit
