This is excellent! The outlining of Mythra’s despair and learning to hope again through Torna and into the base game, the thematic parallels between in how 2 and 3 discuss existentialism and the struggle for meaning, and putting forth that Malos’ find peace and purpose at the end and how that carried into 3 when he resonates with N. This is a rich analysis, and tightly constructed. One day, I’d like to thank Takahashi personally. Not only for the impact these stories have had on me. But also it says a lot about the man that his games are about the importance of choosing to spread hope and community in the face of a cruel world, and how (by many many reports) that’s apparently reflected in the work culture of Monolith Soft.
@@dropshock284 I agree as Takahashi san is a visionary which is evident by how far ahead Xenogears and Xenosaga was of their times. There are still no games quite like them. Chronicles games keep that passion and flame going in the modern era. I cant wait to cover xc4 and forward on this channel. My xenosaga and gears analysis videos are also in the pipeline. Hope you like them. I hope Takahashi san keeps making games for the next 500 years in his endless now!!
2:20 holy shit rhis is the first time ive seen someone else acknowledge what happened to amalthus' mother. No one ever brings up how truly teerible that scene is and the SA implied.
Our past experiences usually form our current worldviews and perspectives on life. Amalthus is no different. He is a compelling character as also explored in the Logos episode prior.
This was awesome man, loved seeing how you delved into the themes of hope and despair within Xenoblade 2, which paved the way for Xenoblade 3 to be fully realised with those same themes as well. I just love how Takahashi set up Xenoblade 3's thematics with Xenoblade 2 laying the seeds and foundation for it to happen, and I'm sure these themes of humanity's will of hope and despair will continue in some form with all future Xenoblade games. Takahashi will find more creative ways to explore human philosophy. Amazing analysis, absolutely loved this one!
@@linkalot7415 There are many reasons to love XC2 so much. It is such a strong game overall especially in terms of pacing and late game. Glad you enjoyed the analysis. Tried my best to make Takahashi's vision justice so that people stop giving it the cold shoulder because of "too much skin" arguments. It is baffling to me that such a high quality experience is bashed online as it can seriously be many people's favourites. Especially playing it with Torna strengthens not just Jin's and Malos' worldviews but also Amalthus'. I recommend everyone to play it in between chapter 7 and 8 like Takahashi san also recommends. It is also evident that I used so many cutscenes of Torna in this analysis. Torna is absolutely essential if we want to properly understand Myhtra and Pneuma's perspective.
Malos literally doesn't have "foresight", that's a brilliant catch! It's ironic that he made his reason to live causing death and destruction, and was only satisfied when he himself died. Trying to find a reason to live is something I've been struggling with recently, Rex's worldview has always been a bit of a ideal in that way for me ever since I played XC2, and I especially resonate strongly with that final confrontation of ideals between him and Malos. I hope I can still at least put smiles on some people's faces, but also for the right reasons! :)
@@Solibrae That's Rex' vision for himself but it is a strong one where you focus on others as much as yourself which makes life more bearable. After all, feelings like depression or sorrow are more likely to occur with self ruminations focusing on "what ifs" and "if onlys". Rex' worldview is a good one since it reduces self clinging and depressive tendencies intrinsically. But again, thats just so if you are interested in that sort of thing. It depends on where you are in your life imo. You cant necessarily force these stuff. Maybe what you find meaning in life is researching turtles or something. Or playing football. It is important to find what that thing is and accept that tomorrow, it can morph and change. It is important to remember that when or if it does, we shouldnt be stuck and instead, try to adapt our old habits by listening to our intuition. Thats how I see this process on the macro scale. An eternal cycle of creating and destructing meaning in a way that fits your current interests, environment, experiences and worldview
Holy shit dude that Minoth line!! I didn't even remember that! Such a cool piece of sub text. Also relates to the title of the final boss theme. Also i always saw "After Despair and Hope" as a parallel to Pneuma and Malos but I love your analysis of Rex and Amalthus. It can be seen from either pov though as seen in your video 👍🏽
@@nishquikpops Glad you enjoyed it bro! I really love this video it is probably my favourite. Sure Xenoblade 3 also hits really hard in certain moments but there is also a magic in XC2 and torna that feels so unique. Actually the same applies to Xc1. I guess all xenoblade games are the best Xenoblade haha. The more I do a deep dive, the more Im convinced that game is the best. Thats Takahashi san's brilliance in my eyes
@@nishquikpops I'm gonna release an insane X video in a few hours and as to Gears lore videos, I'm really excited to make them. Currently working on a Xenosaga lore video but it is only a matter of time before Gears kicks in around here ;))
