@@isaaconi56 Hey Isaac, I teach how to read music in my Sax School - step by step from the beginning. You should check it out! You will be able to read music in under a month with no problem. Here's the link: www.scottpaddocksaxschool.com
As a jazz guitarist, I use the third lick, but in 1/8 note triplets, taught to me by Pink Martini, guitarist, Dan Faehnle. Using groups of four notes in triplets sort of tricks the ear. Something pretty simple sounds very cool. Thanks for the great lesson.
I transcribed this lick off of Gerald Albright's solo in that pick up the pieces video with the Phil Collins big band. Great line to work the finger and it sounds amazing uptempo!!
Man, your solo at the end is better than half of youtube saxophone content! 🔥🔥🔥 I would love to listen a mix of your solos, transcribe and apply some to my music language. That's the best learning!
I still have it. I honestly don't play it very often. It will take a few months of practicing it to make it feel natural, and I just don't have the extra time to put into it right now.
Hey - I've got a full course on Funk Improv in my Sax School, and I have done several RUclips videos on Funk Improv/style just go to my RUclips page and type in Funk in the search bar.
MERCI Stephane ..
Bonjour Stephane, I'm not familiar with the Lackey mouthpiece you have, but for funk, you want a steeper baffle mouthpiece, and any mouthpiece you play should be easy to get air through. If it's really hard to play start by switching your reed strength. If that doesn't fix it, then it might not be the right mouthpiece for you.
@@ScottPaddock Thanks Scott, it's a special jazz embouchure, with my saxophone it's going very well vandoren black jazz 3 or 3 1/2 .. I love it .. but nothing works anymore for funk exercises so I'm going to buy myself a more suitable mouthpiece and especially less wide than a 7*3 Thank you again for the quality of your work and the provision of your knowledge ;-) Cordially Stephane Lavidalie
Great licks Scott !! Wish you would give more like these! Accessible and easy to incorporate into our vocabulary1 couldn't you break down some approachable funk licks like this for us??!! As usual your tone and playing are KICKING BUTT !!!
Hey Noah, it looks like you signed up for the PDF with two different emails. Did you check your junk mail for the "live" email address? It's probably waiting for you in there 😁 I also sent you the link to the PDF in a separate email.
Hey Jay! I just sent you an email with the link to download it. I think because you are already a member of the Sax School, it didn't automatically direct you to the file. Glad to hear that you're enjoying the School!!
Hey Jochen, it looks like that email was sent to you on August 22 at 11:33am (East Coast time). I just resent it to you. If you didn't get it, send me a private message through the website, and I'll make sure you get it. Be sure to check your junk/spam folder.
Simply amazing already rehearsed for today definitely including in tomorrow's session

@@ScottPaddock Although I can't read staff had to get the notes by ear hopefully I get to learn staff sometime in the future 😅

I see you still had your C melody horn (at least 10 months ago) . Did your impressions change or has it moved on?
I still have it. I honestly don't play it very often. It will take a few months of practicing it to make it feel natural, and I just don't have the extra time to put into it right now.

Amazing information
Thanks Rasesh!
What mouthpiece do you use?
I use a Barkley Brazil Kustom Pop 7 Blue on alto (all of my gear is listed in the description if you want to check it out)
Thank you!
Do you use a compressor after your mic? Your sax sounds very bright and powerful, or is it the mouthpiece?
No, I don’t use a compressor, just some reverb. It’s the way I put the air into the sax along with the high baffle mouthpiece.
Super
