Not really unless your a back up sar swimmer for the boat. Every boat must have two main guys to go underway. SAR school is much harder to pass than VBSS
Any tips on joining vbss team? I’m in the process of joining the navy and probably leaving sometime this month and I’ve asked my recruiter about VBSS and she had no idea what I was talking about. Any info/help would be appreciated man thanks!
@@cgwoodworks1861 Wow in the Coast Guard surface swimmer is a collateral duty. But we rarely do anything for it. Just training/drills and recerts. The Helicopter rescue swimmer's (AST) do it as an actual job everyday.
Hey whatsup LItt. Its probably the best job in the navy. They may change the actual rescue swimmer rate. If you not able to pass the PRT you must wait 3 years after joining to try again.
No. Surface rescue is a collateral duty on top of your normal job (rate). However there is a very intense one month course with a high failure rate. Air rescue swimmers do in fact need a special warfare contract and that would be your main job. (rate)
I JUST PASSED SAR SCHOOL IN SAN DIEGO. CANT WAIT TO BE ON THE BOATS
Sick. Congratulations
Does SWCC conduct ops similar to this?
Yes but usually fresh water behind enemy lines 👊🏻 special operations buds school is required for that.
And people think the navy only does pog shit
This is badass
Hell ya bro. It was a good time for sure. I wish we had more action like this on deployment.
Can you do both vbss and sar as a collateral duty at the same time?

Once you’re on your ship, let the right people know you’re interested. They will send you through training if they need more guys.
As a collateral duty how often do you perform or stand watch?
When out at sea very often. 5x a week. In port Once a month training.

I really want to try and get a good score on the test when I’m 17 to be a aviation rescue swimmer. What all do you know and have seen about them?

Are these gentlemen a mix of navy and MSC? Or all MSC? I'm intrested in becoming a MSC surface rescue swimmer.
No they are all Navy. Go for it, its the same thing that the navy rescue swimmers do. I trained with alot of MSC guys.
@@cgwoodworks1861 but do MSC surface rescue swimmers work with the VBSS team as well?
@@duped8273 nope. They are civilians
Aye idk if y'all respond, but do you need a special warfare contract to be a surface rescue swimmer?
