People clowning on some random college kid you don't even know to make your own average grip strength seem more impressive in comparison is pathetic.

This test is a mystery for me, as I find a lot of benchmarks online, saying 40 kg is very weak. I'm 40 yo, and I squeeze 40 kg (+- 2) with both hands. I went to the gym for 22 years (not trying to look like a gorilla, just trying to work my muscles constantly). I'm able to do 2 or 3 weighted pullups with added 30kg to my own 82kg. I can dangle off the bar for more than 1 minute. I would think that these feats are related to hand grip and are more impressive than 90% of the male population. So are any of you guys here, never working out in the gym and squeezing 55 kg or something? Even went to two doctors, both said, in their experience, the average guy squeezes less than 30kg. Still, internet shows I should be squeezing 60 kg to be above average.

Different dynamometers show different numbers, your grip is average if you're using the same dynamometer as in the video.

@oaiaferoce Don't believe everything you read on the internet. I have a friend who is a rehab physio specialising in hand rehab after people have had operations. This is usually a long process. She has given me some exercises to do at home or at the gym, but, and this is the kicker, the average male hands strength tested on one of the testers she uses is about 32-34 kilograms. Seems low, but that is the average for most males now. So what the 2 doctors told you is correct and very, very, very few men could squeeze 60 KG on one of these testers. For your age she said 35+ is the norm, but it also depends on your health and size and your fitness. If you can do 40KG+ with both hands that is good, most certainly not weak. 💯👍

The benchmarks I've seen give a range of 35 to 55kg as "normal" for a 40 year old. So you are fine. Also adjusting the width of the gripper can make a difference, as can technique and simply how you are feeling at the time. On a bad day my result was at least 12kg worse than on a good day (it was a good day in the recent video I made with the same dynamometer as in this video...)
That said I am surprised at what the doctors said about the average guy. They are probably seeing guys in worse health than average, and maybe skewed towards older demographics. I've only tested maybe 5 guys, mostly around my age ie 40s. Mostly they've got 50 something kg, but to be fair to the average guy they're bigger than average. The only adult guy that got less than 30 was my 82 year old dad who, although very fit for his age, has carpal tunnel and some arthritis in his fingers. He got 27kg. Though I reckon on a good day he could get over 30. All the women I tested apart from one got in the 30s kg, mostly low 30s.

@@cudgee7144 Very interesting, thanks for detailing what your friend said. Mid 30s kg does sound low as an average. Maybe that's the new normal for guys that don't do any physical labour or exercise. But actually I see you went on to say that 35+ kg is the normal range for a 40 year old guy, which matches what I've seen.

@@ChrisPT You have got it one my friend. Sitting on a computer or scrolling a mobile device does nothing for hand/grip strength. Most males don't do any sort of physical exercise any more. A lot struggle to bend over to do up their shoe laces. Have a good weekend. 😁

Carpal Solution. I had CT for nine months in excruciating pain with no sleep. It was horrid. Carpal Solution healed ALL my symptoms in 7 weeks. Call them. You will not need to worry again about CT. It's under 200 dollars but worth 10,000 dollars. I am being very sincere. I know the pain of CT and always told myself I will tell everyone about the Carpal Solution. This was over 5 years ago and my hands/ wrists are 100 percent fine! God bless the reader.

A good grip strength is associated with good testosterone levels and when you're that underweight we can see why one has a weaker grip than the average healthy person.

I'm pretty sure grip strength peaks in the mid 20's to mid 30's age range and then it's a very slow decline.
