Thank you for this video. I went to elementary school in Webb City, and lived outside of town. My father worked for Phillips. The rock building behind you was the post office, where we went every day to get our mail. I went to Webb City school from 1947 to 1955, then to Shidler for high school, graduating in 1959. The white church was the Baptist, and my father Eldred Slomon was instrumental in its construction. I was married there in 1961. By then the population of the whole area was decreasing, and both Webb and Shidler declined. I was pleased to discover this video.
Thank you - glad you found it! A lot of interesting history out there, and now with the new movie from the area I wonder if more people will discover it!
Old school bell / Summer School sign was neat. Impressive area had nice churches. Indian history was very interesting. Love your shirt with Nickodemus . One of my favorite videos. 😊
I was just thinking that every town you visited the dogs were sure to "greet" you. Then the last scene proved the observation 😂 Glad you included that cute snippet. Enjoy your videos. Stay safe and GOD bless
I really enjoyed that Greyhorse tour. After reading Killers of the Flower Moon when it first came out, we drove all through the Pawhuska - Greyhorse area to see the sites mentioned in the book. I grew up in this area and yet had never heard about this incident.
I was told when I got a certain age, my great grandma told me stories her aunts and uncles would tell her because she was born a little after it happened
Good video. You probably passed through Shidler OK while in the area. Apparently Shidler was the hometown of Rance Howard (Ron Howard’s father). I’ve read the book Killers of the Flower Moon & it’s great. The movie was filmed in 2021 in Pawhuska but won’t debut until 2023
Thanks. I also went to elementary school in Webb City (1953-1956) and lived a mile west of town in what was called Camp 40. Camp 40 was a row of houses build by the Phillips Petroleum company for their employees. After our family moved to another oil town, I am told that they tore down the elementary school.
Unincorporated communities do not have a formal local government. They do not have a mayor, a town hall, a police department, or a town council. Sometimes the people in the area will organize a volunteer fire department.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I think the wording may change from county to county. In my home state of Nebraska I’ve seen unincorporated, unincorporated town, and even unincorporated village. It’s like some counties want to make sure the people passing through know it is a town or village and not a housing development. Lol
Did you visit the historic cemetery at Grey Horse? I grew up around Webb City, we live for a year or two in a house across from the white church back in the late 1950’s. My Dad went to school at Webb City till his Junior Year in the 1940’s. Thanks for the video.
My stepdad, Jim Webb was born near the townsite of Webb City OK. He was born in 1895 to a family that founded the town. He bought property in Mountain View Missouri in the 1930s and would travel back and forth for years. He was a cowboy and rode in rodeos and broke horses for years.
My understanding of unincorporated towns is , they have no government or services. What ever county they are in is government and services. I wonder if some states require a charter , for a town to be incorporated .
@@TravelwithaWiseguy when I was a boy we lived in northern Sumner county. 1 or 2 miles inside of sedgwick county is Waco weco unincorporated. That is where my thoughts come from. I admit I could be wrong.(it's on 81 -broadway)
Gardendale TX (in west Texas) isn't incorporated. There's a Gardendale Tx in east Texas as well. It's a community. Maybe Webb city is a community? 🤷 Enjoy your videos very much during this busy season. Time to rest 😊
Different reservations have different feelings about that. I spoke with a man in town and he said they didn’t mind visitors. Honestly I think only a few people still live in the community.
Our rez is not what you think a rez would traditional look like. So yes we love guests but come during the dances in June and please be respectful. No filming under the arbor
I hope you got permission to film under our arbor, I am happy you want to bring awareness to my people and my district but there is protocol because those benches behind you belong to a family and respect is a part of our traditions.

You are an engaging story teller..Humble, good pilot, photographer. & informed of your topics.
I appreciate that! Thank you very much 😊
Great video. We enjoyed it. That old schoolhouse was awesome.
Thanks! I have another video of just the schoolhouse too. Pretty amazing!

Nice! They were interesting to explore, especially Gray Horse!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I love to see other native reservations.
I’m Hopi and Navajo from az
There’s a guy named Peter Santenello who recently did some really good Navajo videos in Arizona. He has a very popular RUclips channel.

Wow! Interesting!! Interesting looking book too!
Would be interesting to read I’m sure! I heard they may make a movie out of it.

Unincorporated communities do not have a formal local government. They do not have a mayor, a town hall, a police department, or a town council. Sometimes the people in the area will organize a volunteer fire department.
This is correct. What was confusing for me is it said online it was an “unincorporated town” when it would usually be just “unincorporated”.

Gotcha!
My grandparents and great-grandparents on my dad's side are all buried at Pleasant Valley in Sumner. I was just there in May
It's amazing how many ghost towns where the only thing that remains is the cemetery, understandably, and for some weird reason, the school
Very true!
Have a blessed Christmas.
Thanks you too!

Yes I did - it’s actually in this video. Very nice cemetery!
I would never consider it historic because we still use it. My grandma was buried there last year and I would either be buried there or in town
That dog ,🤣 HEY YOU? OH NEVERMIND!
😂😂
So is the authoritarian in gray horse being used still now ? It's a nice facility
I think it’s used once a year for native gatherings

Usually when it says unincorporated the term Town isn’t added, so I was confused when I read that online

I did - I spoke with the caretaker and he watched me do all of the filming. He told me where I could go and where I couldn't go.
