I am so grateful for your honesty. It is so wonderful to hear ladies talking openly. No more Shame game. Secret taboo. I am in my fifties and need them for light incontinence. Tired of plastic waste and skin problems from wearing pads 24/7 365 days a year. Going to give this a go. Thank you for all you do !!🙏🏻❤️i was unable to get your link to your website to work?

Cold water rinsing only. Hot water will set the stains. Use warm or hot water afterward.

I am going to be using cloth pads for the first time this month. I ordered two of the sets that you recommended from Amazon. I am going to use All Free & Clear detergent which is what we use for our regular laundry. I do plan on getting some oxi clean as well. I am super excited to start using cloth pads as I have been having a lot of irritation from disposable pads. I also can’t wait to order some from you as I also live in a small town in East Texas and I love to support small businesses especially if they’re fairly local. 😁😁

Came across this video when considering telling my friend about reusable products but...I had to go back to disposable. Reusable pads made me hate my cycle even more because I have a heavy period. What I noticed when looking for tips, using a cup with the reusable pad always came up. I don't like cups or discs so I just went back to disposable. I had to accept that just because something was handmade or eco-friendly doesn't mean it's for everyone.

I wait till the end of my cycling (i'm 9 days as well). I wash my pads by hand in a rubbermaid tub.
-12+hr soak with oxiclean in cold water. Do a quick rinsing soak after.
-If still some stains I pretreat stains with Fels-naptha stick before detergent wash
-Wash in hot water with Arm and Hammer detergent
-Rinse thoroughly and sometimes add in a little bit of vinegar in the rinse to help with any potential odor or soap build up.
-if i've added vinegar to the rinse then I do one more rinse with just water to ensure any vinegar is out of them.
-Air dry on a rack. I read the dryer will wear down the PUL (the water proof barrier) so I have never put them in the dryer.

I use arm and hammer sensitive dye and fragrance free. Fels naphtha and oxiclean. I dry store, double soak in just water. Then do an hour soak in oxiclean, scrub each one with fels then throw them in the wash with normal clothes and detergent. I add some vinegar to the rinse cycle to avoid soap build up and keep the soft and absorbent.

I switch back and forth between my homemade laundry detergent or All free and clear liquid detergent, it just depends on how I feel that laundry day. But I don’t wait too wash my pads, I rinse them out with cold until the water runs clear then I spray them with a little stain treatment, let them sit in the bathroom sink for 15 or 20 minutes then I rub the pad together too help breakup the blood. For some odd reason my blood is rich and quickly stains anything it comes in contact with. But it’s a different story when I’m at work. I’m not comfortable rinsing out my pads in the public restroom, so they go in my wet bag until I’m able too treat them at home.
I’ve been thinking of selling pads on Esty but I don’t think my pads are flawless yet, I’m still learning a lot about making my own cloth pads, I started making them in August 2021. I’ve never heard of cloth pads before and I thought it was the neatest and coolest thing, but I’ve heard of cloth diapers but not cloth pads. But anywho I think I rambled enough.

I've been using Arm and Hammer Free detergent for 20 years. I have sensitive skin and dyes, smells aren't for me. I pretreat my pads with a Zote white bar (it lasts for years, and it's still a dollar at Walmart). I used to work at FedEx loading aircrafts. I worked outside for 10 years 365 days. My clothes were always nasty, and when Aunt Flo comes to visit it was always hard to get stains out. Zote bar gets the pads all squeaky clean, and Arm and Hammer gets all of the stains out on every stitch of clothing. I wash my pads in cold water and do 3 spin cycles to get the water out. I then line dry them. A few hours later they're dry and good to go. I would dry them in the sun, but I've been an apartment dweller. Drying stuff out on my porch is frowned on.

I saw the Lysol laundry sanitizer in your video. Is that ok to use to clean your pads? Also it says that you put it in the softener tray. I just don’t want something bad to happen to them.

So I just started using the reusable pads. Tell me please if I’m doing anything wrong!! After use I put them in a bowl of cold salt water with a lid but I first spray them with peroxide. Then I just place them in the washer on a delicate cycle all at once when my period is over with a little vinegar as a fabric softener with laundry soap and Lysol disinfectant for laundry. I also put them in the dryer after on air dry 🤷‍♀️ Should I be doing anything different?

Rinse it twice. So all the blood is gone. Then, it's okay to mix with other laundry. Or not, the smelly blood will go over to other stuff.

Does oxy clean lessen the lifespan of keeping cloth pads in good condition over time? I believe it has hydrogen peroxide, and typically when buying cloth pads they suggest using natural products. I have only used cloth pads for 1 cycle so far! Just trying to learn more :)

I've been using oxiclean on my period underwear, and cloth pads for 2 years. I've never had a n issue. Using cold water, and line drying stuff helps extend the pads. I repurposed an old salad spinner to get the water out when I pretreat my pads. That helps so much. Getting the water out is important so the pads dry faster so you don't get mold.

I like to use a bidet! It’s been a life changer for my period. And I’m usually at home so it’s convenient. Also seems kind of gross to rinse them in the sink. I would buy a special little tub. Like one you can clean your feet in and rinse it out in that. Then dump that in the toilet. And bleach it out after I’m done.

Wow. My main take away from this video was the way you linked all the pads together to dry! Why did my brain never do that! I was alway struggling to find enough space to hang dry them. 🤯

I have a rain shower so I just throw them in the shower with me and let it beat on the pad while I’m not under it and it beats it clean and gets the blood out. I ring it out and then soak in oxi clean in a small bucket and they come out perfect if I don’t feel like doing the bucket I have a small washer the washer drawer that I run through a rinse until wash. Then I wash them with oxi and make sure to rinse an extra rinse sometimes I use the oxi clean gel but it’s hard to get that smell out so I rinse them like three times but they are super clean and stain free with little effort. I also half fry them so they soften up definitely no softner so just letting them beat around in the dryer keeps them from getting stiff I don’t dry all the way because I’ve had sometimes the under liner shrink so then it’s all cockeyed. I just try on till they’re almost dry and then let them sit out and I use tide cause I have many many sensitivities and since I e used this growing up it doesn’t bother me with the soap or the scent witch I have big problems with so just original tide. Thanks for the video

If you feel they smell, put them in the washing machine and do a vinegar rinse. The vinegar will offset the ph and smell balance. after you do a rinse, you can do an oxiclean soak if you feel it still needs another step. you can also hand wash them in in the tub with original blue dawn and hot water. I would hang them up to dry facing the sun and let them sun dry if you can. if you still have any issues, please email me. Also, which pads are you using? I'd like to know the fabric on your pads.

The person who I buy the pads from, tells me to never ever wash them with hot water or scrub too much so they can last for more years. I don't put them in the dryer either 🤷🏼‍♀️ I use cold water, then baking soda then I wash them with Arm & Hammer 6 essentials. Something like that and they get very clean all the time with no stains.

    • @clothyoriginal

If they smell, it just means they aren't getting washed properly. You need 3 main things for effective cleaning; detergent, agitation and water. If you are washing the pads alone in a machine then they won't be getting good agitation. You may not be using enough detergent or its not strong enough. You need to wash with the right amount of water so that it kind of looks like a stew. Too little water is not good and too much stops from getting proper agitation. I suggest you soak your pads with detergent and/or and oxygen based cleaner to reset them. Then next time you need to wash them change one thing (water, agitation, detergent) and see how it goes. Dont forget to do a pre rinse or pre wash either in the sink or washer before your main wash. To increase agitation, I bulk out my wash with small items, such as socks & underwear, small towels ect
I'm also a firm believer on washing on hot (or at least warm) after my initial cold rinse. I've had some pads 10+ years and the heat hasn't killed them yet.

Have you tried a baking soda and salt scrub? Kosher salt works wonders. If your pads smell after that, ditch them and buy new ones because it can cause issues. I stopped using reusable pads because I didn't change my soak water enough. I got a bad infection when I was 20. I gave up on reusable pads for a long time. But salt and baking soda will kill a lot of stuff if you scrub thoroughly.
