    The 40Kw battery is available in the top Tekna trim level, great review. The LEAF Chad charger plug does have something that CCS doesn't have, two way power. We have a V2G unit on the house and the car can run the house for around three days using just the car battery. Charge it up at 5p per Kw and use it during the day. If you use Octopus Agile tariff you can also charge the car for nothing and gat paid to charge if the tariff falls below zero!

    I've got the 62 Kwh Tekna and love it. The other makes including the Tesla were actually not interested it seemed in selling their cars (I live in France) whereas Nissan was local and I got a great deal. The Leaf to my mind has a great track record for reliability. I get the impression there is a "let's knock the Nissan Leaf" attitude from car presenters whereas when owners are asked for their opinions it's the exact opposite. Don't listen to the naysayers ... it's a brilliant car.

      The Leaf has been a standard bearer for EVs for a while now, and like we said, in lower trim at the lower price, it has a place. This higher priced specification car however struggles against the newer competition however. Still, we are looking forward to the new Ariya.

      I agree with the "let's know the Nissan Leaf" attitude. I see all reviewers focusing and complaining about not being able to do things that you rarely have to do on a car (at least for me): drive 1000 kilometers in a single day, lay the back seats flat so you can use it as a pick up truck, fit 3 tall, overweight adults on the back.

    I think longevity has a part to play in the pricing and value. I agree it seems expensive compared to other options. However, compared to the quality and reputation of other options, all things weighed in the balance, it’s a strong contender. Great video! Love the accent too!

    Well....boot space is 435 liters with the seats up.....not 385 I'm afraid....

    I liked the mixture of old retro and modern electrics. But I guess its not for everyone.

    I like the looks of the Leaf. I cannot force myself to like the Telsa Model 3, it looks like it tan into a wall. I hate the flat front end of the Telsa Model 3. The Hyundai and Kia might have longer range than the Nissan, even the Chevrolet Bolt claims a longer range. But I trust Nissan a lot more than I do Hyundai, Kia or Chevrolet. The Leaf might be due for more upgrades, like an even longer range but I'd still buy the Leaf.

      Looking forward to testing future EVs from Nissan, and I get the love for the Leaf from some quarters. However, it feels it's age now in my book.

    The future is electric. No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs.
    Gas and diesel vehicles are old polluting technology.
    Nissan once had a lead on electric vehicle technology. Now they have fallen behind.
    There are a lot of good electric vehicles to choose from these days.

    Nobody pays 37K for the 62kw Leaf, Nissan discount it quite a bit more like 32k. The Tesla you mention is the Standard range plus. ie bottom of the range and with no discounts.
    Whereas the Leaf 62kw is top of the range. Put it another way you will pay 10K more for the Tesla.

      Nissan have just revised the pricing for the Leaf, but at the time of the test, it was an expensive car, and I still stand by what I said. It is outshone by much better alternatives at similar money. However, we expect Nissan to be back on track with the new Ariya.

    So, between the Leaf and the MG ZS EV, which one would you recommend for a 70+ year old driver?

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  2 года назад +1

      MG. Feels much nicer to drive, better value for money, more spacious interior, and the taller ride height means the practicality of getting in and out is much better.

      Thanks mate. Seems like sound advice. After driving Nissans since 1995, I am kind of hooked on Nissans. But looks like it is time to make a change. Unfortunately Australia is among the last destinations for EVs. So I don't know when the Trophy model with all its bells and whistles will arrive here. Thanks again.

    The lack of a proper thermal BMS is this car's downfall - thoroughly useless in hot or cold climates. And it appears the even on this newer series there's questions as to the battery's longevity...

    • @ritz5606
      @ritz5606 3 года назад

      I agree when it comes to the 40kWh version, where extended road trips will meet rapidgate at some point. However, this is not an issue for the use in cities or suburban areas. The 62kWh version is a great ride and BMS is not something you miss unless you drive in high speed without pauses and rapid charges several times. I guess it's not a car for hotter climates, but it does well in summer and winter in general. In March 2021 the Nissan Leaf still holds the 3rd place of best-selling cars in Norway, with VW ID.4 barely selling better in second place. Long waiting list though.

    With the announcement of the new Nissan Ariya for 2021 the Leaf is dead in the water. It will be the last model I'd expect to see. The 40KwH model is still a very good town car for entry level EV buyers at the lowest spec.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  4 года назад

      Agreed, the Ariya shows that Nissan aren't resting on their (Datsun) Laurels....... {I'll get my coat....}

    Utter negativity. Where do you get 90 mins for a 20%-80% rapid charge, more like 40. By the way I bought my Tekna e+ 62 Kew for about £30 k after discounts. Cheapest on market for the range by far. Show some positivity please.

    Nissan need to update this car a mid life refresh if you will first off they have already tested and had a working test example, so a 4x4 version with water cooling pack are a must in the leaf plus, second the motors need changing , whether it’s Tesla or one of the Koreans they all use a permanent magnet motor the current 3.5kw per mile isn’t good anymore, the Koreans have easily managed 4.5.-4.9 or even 5.3 around town /motorway snarl up at crawl the current leaf 4 -to 4.1 at 70mph I got a not so hot 3.1kwh per mile once , just adding water cooling won’t fix that difference. Nissan if your reading fix the steering please add reach as well as rake I’m fed up driving like I own a bus . As for the dash I’m not a fan of the half analog so please add a smart screen dash . Finally on eu models the change is already coming with the suv so following through with the leaf as well and fir ccs as well as borrowing the Renault partnership and add 22kw on three phase or 11kw on single would really help sales especially if it allowed up to 80kwh recharge rate, adding full led lighting both inside and out (the boot is crying out for a strip light as that that 12w is poor. finally bring black the light trim option for Europe

    • @zaphodsbluecar9518
      @zaphodsbluecar9518 3 года назад

      This is the midlife refresh - other than the front & rear panels, it's the same car as the original...

    • @ram64man
      @ram64man 3 года назад

      @@zaphodsbluecar9518 just an excuse not to make the change . They developed the arahi power train in the leaf including the 60kw water cooled pack , no other changes were needed except a slightly smaller boot because of the extra motor it was raised a couple of inches it included a slightly different center dash that we now know was for pro pilot 2.0 the first level 3 hands free system approved by the Japanese government for road use, something tesla has failed to do. My argument if if they could fit it in with no charge why are they still resisting the answer is it would take ariay sales which is ridiculous. The leaf badly needs ccs in European market now , it’s coming to the bigger car but again was tested first in the leaf mule. So the technology can be easily fitted. With the Id 3/4 elborne, q4, psa the. Koreans and even ford all taking sales it is time to make changes before you become irrelevant to the competition

    For an EV channel not giving the correct kilowatt hour (kWh) terminology for battery capacity is sadly, poor.
